Interestingly, according to Professor Juniper in Pokemon Black/White, Klink was first discovered in Chargestone Cave 100 years ago (relative to when the events of B/W happened since that's the game it's stated in).
That means in this campaign, Klink was first discovered in Unova around...1911. So if Klinklang was discovered in 1925, that means it took 14 years for someone to get the bright idea to try exposing Klang to a magnetic field different from the one used to evolve Klink into Klang in the first place. Or it was completely accidental because nobody thought about the similarities the Klink family has with the Magnemite family.
Juniper also believes that Klink's appearance in Chargestone Cave 100 years ago was very sudden because there was no evidence to suggest that Klink existed prior to when it was first discovered.
