We're not counting things like Pay Day and Gustav's claws until we get back to the future. It's just way easier that way. Now, we can just look at the last day he had the big payday and just subtract it from the current Day.

(He doesn't have one, since he only became Terra's companion during the Ancestor Cave Trip, which was only a couple of days ago in the Present Era [I think.....], and you said he can't make a big Pay Day until at least seven days have passed. That's why I was hoping the Time Travel counted towards it, so I didn't have to keep them in my party for several more days to get the payout and therefore leave me with only 3-4 Pokemon I can switch out on a whim, but if that isn't the case, oh well.....)

He has to spend the bulk of his time in your party, but not 100% of the time. For traveling while away from a PC, yeah, it's best to have him in the party.
