If you can find something to counter those, you'll do better. Gear. Repels don't help much. Spend that space on something else. No Pokeballs are allowed in the Zone except your Safari Balls, so you have to pick your items carefully. Can't reduce the weight automagically. Healing items are small and fit in your pack with no problems, but big stuff like cooking gear and tents can be a problem. Some forego a tent entirely and just rely on survival skills. Plenty of natural resources for raw materials."
Nathan thinks out loud for a moment...
"...okay, I think I definitely have a decent enough lineup of pokemon to deal with those types well enough...Fire, Psychic, Fighting, Rock, Flying, maybe Ground...should be able to cherry pick a few from my box for the various wild pokemon...healing hopefully won't be too much of an issue either since Potions are easy to carry and Gallade knows Heal Pulse...Ditto and Calam might be useful to bring too...hmmm...main issue I'm going to have is probably the non-battle related parts...I'm probably going to need some supplies...which definitely means I'm going to need some more cash..."
"...what about the tournament itself? What do you know about those rules?"
"You can use any Pokemon you catch during the 24 hour period. Each battle is 2v2. It's single elimination - just one loss and you're not eligible for any of the three prizes. No items or even held items. Fainting is allowed. No double battles allowed. Very simple battles, really."
