I went to donate blood today but they turned me away.

I'm of Irish descent but my dad isn't. Weird!

Huh.  Honestly, I didn't expect that.  Well, I kinda did, but eh.

Funnily enough, they won't take my dad's blood either.  However...it's for a completely different reason.  He and my mom lived in Germany for awhile, and it was during a time period where some disease of some kind was spreading around.  So even though it's been years since they've been in Europe, they won't take their blood due to risk of contamination.  :/
