..holy moly, I just learned something shocking about the pokemon anime...

There was a banned episode with a gun in it.

Specifically, the Safari Zone Warden (who was named Kaiser at the time since he didn't have an official name yet.  HG and SS gave the Tohjo Safari Zone Warden the canon name Baoba) is the one who had it, and he threatened Ash with it.  All in the name of protecting the Safari Zone's inhabitants, of course, as Kaiser didn't initially trust Ash and co. wouldn't harm the rare pokemon within the preserve.

That also happens to be the episode where Ash caught all 30 of his Tauros, and it was apparently really, really confusing for the rest of the world (the episode only ever aired in countries in Asia) when Ash suddenly had 30 Tauros for no explainable reason because nobody outside of Asia had seen Ash catch said Tauros at that point.



...so apparently guns do exist in canon pokemon material...only in a single episode of the anime that never aired in most parts of the world, but wow...I somehow did not see that coming, to be honest...

Wait, you didn't know about that episode? I've heard and read a plot synopsis about a long time ago, and its partially the reason why I allowed guns to exist in my campaign, aside from the fact that I do think firearms and other human made weapons can do serious damage to Pokemon, and I believe humans wouldn't just leave self defense just to Pokemon and develop their own tooth and claws, so to speak. Figured you already knew about that episode, and therefore were didn't think anything about guns existing, but nope, I was wrong! That's rather surprising to me, to be honest! Not being wrong, but you not knowing about one of the banned Pokemon episodes, since you usually are on the up and up on all things Pokemon.

Guess now you know about it, and part of the source material I was referencing!

Honestly, I probably need to read Bulbapedia's article on the banned episodes a bit more.  I know about Porygon, obviously (Porygon did nothing wrong, it was all Pikachu's fault!).  That one's basically a given.  And I also know about...*ahem*...James's 'assets' (those two are way too damn good with disguises sometimes...), mostly because it's 'quality' material I've had the oh so (un)fortunate experience of hearing about, but beyond those, I haven't really read up on them.  Mostly because I didn't think a lot of the stuff in them was still canon.  And also partially because I don't really watch the pokemon anime very often (even though I love to reference it as a resource on various characters in it.  I might not watch the anime, but it is still a part of the pokemon universe we all know and love, after all, and I love to read about it!  Just not very frequently/in a huge amount of specific detail, since I don't want to read the summaries of every.  Single.  Episode.)

Guess I was wrong in some regards, though, given that there's still no other explanation for why Ash has 30 Tauros.  I did know he'd caught them all practically by accident, but I never looked into the episode he caught them in.


I honestly thought the gun thing was a little out of place at first, but I decided I'd roll with it and see how it went.  Your world, your rules, after all.
