That immediately catches Nathan's attention.

This question is gonna nedd @Iron's input, but Nathan would definitely ask it.  "Do you remember if it was male or female?  Males typically have longer, bushier whiskers."

The gender difference is probably a lot easier to see now that Luxray has separated the Kadabra by gender. (Though it's not a particularly difficult to notice gender difference once you know what to look for)
