I think it would be better to add an extra step to the GTS: confirmation. As in, the process would go like this:

1. Deposit a Pokemon and fill some basic requirements for species etc
2. Someone else offers you something under those requirements
3. You get to look at the offered Pokemon's summary and either accept or decline.

I think it is fine but then, the "someone else" needs to wait for the confirmation (which may take forever). In the mean time, his/ her GTS will be blocked, which is not very good for giveaway breeders.

I want to suggest a solution myself: Add one additional criterion for selection which is unique for each trainer, i.e. Online ID (or Trainer ID).
This way, you can choose the exact trainer you will trade with and prevent any loss (you may enter an incorrect ID, but how could that "incidental trainer" pops up from nowhere and snipes your trades? )
If you don't care who you are going to trade with, you may leave it as "any" or 000,000 (just like the gender selection).
This solution saves time for both trainers and is extremely safe (in my opinion).

By typing this, I suddenly think of an alternative solution: The person who deposits a pokemon may choose to set a security code (6 digits) and the corresponding trader must type this exact code to do the trade. If the security code is 000,000, no password is required.

There is another simple way (which I am using) : join Breeders Guild PU, post direct messages to each other, then do the trades swiftly.
