(I assumed Catherine used Powder Snow, a ranged attack that covers a wide area, to sweep the room from the doorway without entering it)

...the ice shatters, and so does the lock on the chest! It looks like the chest is barely being held together by old, fragile, rotting wood. If the attack had been any stronger, the whole chest might have fallen apart.
The chest itself is not trapped. Inside it is a TM for Calm Mind!
