That could be one of two checks: Etiquette if you're being genuinely polite, or Perform if you're trying to put on an act/deceive them. It could also be Allure I suppose, though the clerk is a guy.
Let's go with Etiquette then. Use 6 XP to raise Etiquette to 1 to get a better chance.
