With the biggest dangers of the stampede dealt with (Lucas dealt with Machoke since nobody needed his help), all the weaker pokemon scatter. The start of the route is once again quiet.
"...well then, that was exciting. Everyone okay?"
Presumably, everyone says they are, as miraculously, nobody got hurt at all during that set of encounters! Well, except the wild pokemon, but those that were will have plenty of time to recover in the PC or in hiding.
Lucas notices that something's still bothering Karen, though.
"...is something the matter, Karen?"
"...well...I can't help but shake the feeling that the stampede was...running from something...I talked to that Glalie, and..."
"...wait, you talked to the Glalie?"
"Yeah, I did. They were actually really nice! And they seemed scared...they didn't feel safe, staying here, but they didn't want to be around humans for some reason, either...at least, that's the impression I got...I think they might have been running from whatever was causing that weird wind earlier..."
Lucas thinks about that carefully. "...weird wind...I wonder if it would have become a snowstorm if it had stuck around Snowpoint longer...well, let's proceed with caution. Keep a careful eye on the wind speed, everyone. I doubt that little gale we saw earlier was natural if it's spooked the wild pokemon. Let's look around a little instead of cutting straight through the Route. Maybe whatever caused that wind is still nearby. And I definitely don't fancy getting caught off guard by it, whatever it is."
Results of Karen's encounter: she successfully managed to convince Glalie that she didn't want to fight it, asked it some questions about what happened, and then it left since it didn't want to join a pokemon trainer for some reason. Karen gained 8 exp for her daring act.
Route 217 Part 2
(New experiment time! How does a selection of notable encounter hotspots sound for a Route?)
Next up is the snowfield. The big open space allows for a lot of freedom in the kinds of encounters that can be chosen. If you want to encounter a wild pokemon here, you almost have to be purposefully looking for them! You're almost guaranteed to run into a trainer who wants to battle at some point as well, and who knows what's hidden in the snow...
- The Tall Grass and Frozen Rock

A large, frozen over rock that some trainers make the goal of entire journeys with their Eevee partners. It's surrounded by Tall Grass, and there are a few wild pokemon hanging around it. Some particularly rare pokemon can also sometimes be found in this particular patch of Tall Grass. Most of them are Ice types common to this Route. With the recent happenings, though, most of them scatter when a human approaches the rock. I'll roll two random Ice type wild pokemon, and you can pick one for your encounter. Maybe some rare ones will show up!
- The Haunted(?) House
Cap: 1
The empty house that Lucas mentioned he got a Spell Tag from. Looks abandoned, but Lucas is adamant he met an elderly lady there. It's located near the Frozen Rock. Get an item, maybe? Find proof of paranormal activity? There doesn't seem to be much here, but maybe there's more to it than meets the eye...there's definitely nothing there if more than one person enters it, though.
- The Isolated House
Cap: 2
The abode of the man who let Lucas keep the Hail TM the Champion found all those ears ago. If there's definitely one benefit of going here, it's that it's probably warmer than it is outside! This house is commonly referred to as the halfway point of Route 217. Warm up and have a nice chat, and maybe find a rare item or two.
- Trainers galore!

Route 217 is popular with skiers and snowboarders due to the deep snow and large snow drifts. Ace Trainers like to train on this Route due to the strength of the wild pokemon. Finding a battle here is easy! Just don't be surprised if you encounter someone who looks totally unprepared for the current weather but is training out here anyways, because there are definitely people crazy enough to do just that! I'll roll three random trainers, and you get to battle one of them when they catch your eye!
Everyone will find a random item in their chosen encounter as well, as Route 217 is just packed with hidden items due to the ridiculous amount of snow covering the ground. What kind of item you get will partially depend on what kind of encounter you take.
Other ideas for encounters and training sessions are welcome as well, as long as they fit within the context of a Route that's almost perpetually covered in snow and hail.
