Either Gamefreak didn't know that when they create Mightyena when they give the name "dog" Pokemon, or if they did that on purpose. So we could say Mightyena is both canine and feline. And might save Kee and Karen fear problems.

I'm not even sure what exactly you're referring to when you say 'yena' now.  Bulbapedia mentions both hyenas and wolves, though, and also mentions German Sheppards and Australian Kelpies.  I think the general consensus is that Poocheyena and Mightyena are mostly intended to be a kind of dog pokemon.  They don't exactly have very many feline features.

This is also a fairly big character thing for Karen since she ALSO has a Mightyena, and that's a pokemon that Mika chose specifically because it's a variety of dog pokemon specifically, so I'm afraid that doesn't really change anything in that regard.

I was trying to say Hyena. My bad.
