During the battle, Lairon is growing noticeably longer every time an attack spins some of his armor off. He looks like he will evolve any day now.

As you triumphantly leave your gym battle, Howl invites you to train with his new puppies. (Also a chance to tutor any Dark moves on your learnset list). As Marshtomp is sparring with the puppies, his moment comes and he begins glowing with blue light. The ground in the dogpen becomes a pool of deepest mud, and he sinks inside. That blue light shines out through cracks in the suddenly drying mud as evolutionary energy spills everywhere. With a shattering noise, flakes of clay fly everywhere, and Marshtomp - no, Swampert! comes erupting out of the mud and sweeps up a dozen puppies in his strong arms.
