Please remember that opting to use own weapons in a battle you're going to make yourself a target for the foe-Pokemon's attacks, and something I'd rather not deal with if it can be avoided is a badly and lethally injured party member. On the other hand, joining a battle between Pokemon would make for really cool scenes if handled with thought.
