Karen does indeed immediately recall Magnezone, as she fears some kind of powerful Ground type move is incoming!
"Ahhhh...didn't bring any pokemon with Priority...wait! I have an idea! Lotus, I need you to trust me on this if things go sour, okay?"
Lotus hesitates, knowing she can't really take a solid hit from this Rhyperior, but she nods. She trusts Karen.
Initiatives
Amethyst: (3) + 10 = 13
Rhyperior: 13
Boreas: (3) + 9 = 12
Lotus: 8
L: (6)(2)(3)
D: (6)(3)(1)(1) Amethyst almost panics when she sees what Rhyperior is about to do, but some assurances from Randolph help keep her calm and focused.
Boreas, by contrast, doesn't seem to be phased very much by the severely weakened Rhyperior.
Ice Shard 1
(3)(5)(4)(2)(2)(3)(3)
(5) Rhyperior takes 2 damage! 1/14 HP -3 Pain
Amethyst charges in to avert disaster! Tough, rocky hide or no, she's going to bring this beast down!
Bite 1
(5)(4)(5)(2)(5)(4)(1) Crit!
(4)(4)(1) Rhyperior takes 2 damage and faints!
Every pokemon that participated gets 2 exp, and Karen and Randolph both get 5.
As Rhyperior slams into the ground face first, Karen and Lotus simultaneously let out a sigh of relief. "...that was way too close...phew..."
Lotus then turns to Randolph, rose on her hip as she gives Randolph a very unamused, narrow eyed look. "Yeah, so...Lotus has never really seemed to be all that interested in learning those kinds of status moves, to be perfectly honest. She's always been more of a straightforward kinda Grass type, if that makes any sense. I tried to teach her Grass Whistle once, but...well, let's just say it didn't go very well. She's put a lot of effort into learning other moves that give her a strong advantage in battle, though! Draining moves are her favorite! And she seemed to like the TMs for Sunny Day and Rain Dance that I taught her, too! Just need to find a good time to use them in conjunction with Weather Ball..."
Karen then looks at Randolph curiously and innocently asks, "...so, I've been meaning to ask...is everything okay, Randolph? You've seemed rather stressed ever since we left Snowpoint, and...well, I can tell something's been on your mind since we defeated that Froslass...I didn't really want to bring it up in front of the others, though..."
