When Randolph steps in front of Byron, the Diamond Steelix looks him dead in the eyes, their piercing, red gaze seeming to burn with an intense desire to destroy. And the effect is almost hypnotic and contagious. Randolph has to force himself to look away from those eyes, lest they burn away at his very sense of self. Were it not for his incredible bravery in standing up to the beast to save Byron, he might not have been able to look away at all.
The massive, crystalline snake radiates power far beyond that of an ordinary pokemon. It doesn't seem to be quite as powerful as a Legendary pokemon, but the feeling is similar to what Randolph felt when standing in the presence of the Lake Trio. This is a being that could crush him in an instant if given the chance.
But Randolph isn't an ordinary trainer. Not any more. Not with so much at stake. He can feel the power of the Azure Flute and Flame Plate pulsing in his bag, encouraging him to push his very limits. He can do this.
Byron doesn't quite know what to say to what just happened. For multiple reasons. "...Alman? Er...ah, damn, fine, whatever! If you're going to stand your ground against this beast, then I guess it doesn't matter what you call me! Let's just beat this thing into the dirt and keep everyone safe!" With those words, he promptly summons his Bronzong! "Looks like collapsing the chamber on top of them is out of the question now, so I guess we're doing this the old fashioned way!"
Odd, but there'll be time to consider what Byron said later!
Lucas summon his Vaporeon, Melissa! "A few Water moves should wash them right up! Byron, mind setting up some Rain for us?"
"Are you out of your mind?! We're in a cave, for crying out loud!"
"Trust me!"
"Bah, fine! Guess you are out of your mind, given that you charged in to help instead of running like I told you to..."
Diamond Steelix Round 1 Initiatives
D-Steelix: (5) + 14 = 19
Nami: (6) + 9 + 2 = 17 (currently disguised as Milotic, though it doesn't seem to have an effect on the rock snakes)
Coal Onix B: (6) + 9 = 15
Melissa: (6) + 8 = 14
Coal Onix A: (4) + 9 = 13 (this is the one with the chipped horn)
Paula: (4) + 9 = 13
Bronzong: (2) + 6 = 8
Byron tsks when he sees just how ludicrously fast this Steelix is, then offers some quick advice to everyone. "There's no way we're going to outpace this damn snake, but we can't afford to let it move first every single time! I'm going to flip everything on its head with a Trick Room! Plan your orders accordingly! Take out the Onix first, and we should be able to summon more pokemon to fight this living crystal! And DO NOT use Fire type moves unless you want this whole damn room to go up in flame! You handle the offense, and I'll run support for now!"
