Don't let me stop you if ya want to play as a Gen 8 mon, though, k? You pick what ya want to play, and I'll accommodate it accordingly.
It's less the mechanics from Gen 8 that I would add (no plans to add the major ones that would really screw with the system), and moreso that I'd have to consolidate information by cross referencing the Gen 7 and 8 movepools on Bulbapedia/Serebii. As an example, by the logic of moves like Return, Frustration, and Hidden Power being universal TMs, Gen 8 mons should in theory be able to learn them even though those TMs/moves don't exist at all in Sword and Shield.
Some pokemon from prior Gens might also be able to learn new moves thanks to the expanded movepools granted by TRs. For example, a lot of Dragons picked up the ability to use Dragon Dance even if they didn't have it previously (such as Black Kyurem, who is absolutely terrifying with it), or Blastoise learning Shell Smash (not a TR, just a new toy that it got in Gen 8). There's also weird ones like the...interesting diversity of pokemon able to learn Power Whip now.
It's extra work, but not too difficult so long as I don't start trying to mix in mechanics exclusive to Gen 8 and only Gen 8 (mainly DMAX and GMAX, though GMAX might be able to be repurposed as almost entirely homebrewed Megas, I suppose). Things like standard moves and corresponding Attribute limits for a mon's base stats are easy enough to implement and calculate.
