I think it's another case of laze writing from Gamefreak again. Another advantage to Mega Evolution. A little question though: Why Dynamax you can only do in PvP battles and Gym battles? Shouldn't be possible to Dynamax in other places?
As I said, the illusion doesn't lessen the power of the moves, which are most certainly boosted by the gigantic surge in energy. Hence why the barrier for the crowds is necessary. Is the massive illusion needed lore for dmax to work as a concept? Not really, but I imagine it's there for a reason, even as obscure as it is.
Dmax is typically only usable at certain 'power spots' in Galar. Chairman Rose used his wealth and influence to set up stadiums where those power spots are located aboveground. All remaining power spots in game are found in the pokemon dens in the Wild Area. Also, it's presumably for balancing purposes so that you can't blow every random trainer away with it like you could with z moves in gen 7.
The mechanic's specifically tied to the lore of the Galar region, and is stated in game to be a phenomenon only possible there, and only when the conditions are correct. There's more to it, but those are the basics. Unless I were to get the primary source of dmax energy involved in the story, dmax would not be mechanically possible in the PMD world lore wise (unless a new game in the series makes an exception and uses it in the future), and I have no plans to include it.
In any case, this is not the thread to be explaining gen 8 lore and theorizing/complaining about it. This mechanic is highly unlikely to show up in Primal Shadows for multiple reasons, regardless of what other Gen 8 pokemon/mechanics may or may not appear in it.
