This reference totally flew over my head...guess I have to play more Pokemon Ranger at some point?

All of the Pokemon Ranger games were good.  Shadows of Almia is the second one in the series, and the one that features Kellyn as a playable character (although like all the Pokemon games, you name your character whatever you want).  Personally, I'd advise skipping the first one and going straight for Shadows of Almia, then Guardian Signs (mostly due to a major difference in the mechanics that the first game drove me nuts over).

There's also apparently a manga for Shadows of Almia, which I would dearly love to see if I can get my hands on a copy!

I own the first and have played the second and third, but never beat Guardian Signs iirc.  

Man, that Steelix in the first one was a nightmare to capture...I can never forget how long that fight took me to beat...

I was also fortunate enough that the copy of the original Ranger game I own still had access to its Manaphy gift.  Though I gave it to a friend because I have a way to get as many Manaphy Eggs as I want in gen 4 if I so desire
