It would be possible to have a VT only system, but you'd have to market it as a gym challenge and not a championship challenge. Don't want to give a false impression.
It's already possible to look up our ID's in the spreadsheet and fight our gyms at any time. Whether or not that is promoted doesn't really matter to me.
