''Sports fans sure can be a handfull, though those two were a bit more then that. Here's hoping they won't bother ya again for a while, trying to come after me is something they'll learn to regret.''
''That being said I am interested in what you were proposing. It's probably obvious that I have a bit of a connection to the sea and even if im not a swimmer myself I'd like to watch the competition, maybe even send my more swim happy partners if they feel like it.''
Kayla simply snorts at your introduction, idly looking around now that the situation was not demanding any immediacy on her part. Not the most motivated of your motley crew, but she was ever reliable and always willing to put in the work for you....provided it was for a good reason. Lani simply scampered back up into your backpack, as with the threat gone and no battles to be had she was checking out of this conversation. Penelope giggled at all this, thought she tried her best to contain her laughter.
"Pleasure to meet you Tourists! Always nice to see other appreciate Bayhama and get out and explore! *Sweet Drop* ...Even if it leads to trouble or gets them lost most the time, eh he he. Hopefully you don't take this as the usual daily thing, sir - Bayhama may be a bit wild and rough at time, but it and its people isn't lawless or troublemakers like the BBs!"
She seems a bit curious at your casual assumptions about S.F.s (and trying her best to hide a bit of nervous giggles at that...) , but shake her head at your own concerns.
"No, they won't be around here again. Prelims are finishing today before we move on to the district competitions, so the BBs and other roughnecks will be making a mess of things where those events are held. *Sighs* Here's hoping they don't bother the swim team no more, but they might out of Spite now....oh dear. I wish everyone would just get along, but you probably know better than I what competitiveness and passion can do to a person..."
Penelope's eyes sparkle at you admit your interest, with her coming forward to grip your hands as she bounces up and down!
"Really?! Great! The more the merrier! If you have a Affinity with Water you HAVE to give the Prelims! Probably nothing like what connection you have with the element, or as exciting as straight Battling, but it's a experience I think EVERYONE should have at least once! We still have a couple spots left open for Independent Swimmers or Water Specialists, man and Mon alike, and I can easily get you one spot after I tell them the mess you save me from! Here, let me give you a copy of the Rule so you can look over!"
She rumages in her lil fanny pack inventory, and pulls out a Flier that details The Swim Meet Prelims and all the Rules that entail. Doing a quick read over....
- The Meet is divided into three parts: Speed (How fast one can complete a lap back and forth across a Olympic sized swimming pool), Endurance (How far or how long one can swim against a heavy current in a more specialized Deep Sea Current Pool, and Skill (Clearing a obsticale course set up between multiple interconnected parts). Each is its own seperate category a person/Mon can compete in, but nothing is stopping the particularly ambitious from trying out all three.
- There are 3 Different Categories of Entries: Man, Mon, and Both.
- The basic rules is that the competitor has to be actually in and on the Water and move across it directly across in order to qualify - those that hover above, carrying someone over, try to use hydrokinesis to clear a path through, or use various elemental techniques to create a solid path through the water is grounds for immediate DQ. Notably, however, their are no rules against walking across the water - indeed they have a ruling concerning Surkit that permits such movement, so you could use that Ruling to simply jog through the course. Or try - if they have a ruling in place for this, that must mean the organizers have planned for it in some way and compensated accordingly...
- Scoring is based on both Completion Time, Overall Technique, and Completion of Optional Objectives - In Mechanical Terms, the Better Swimming Roll, the Better Plan you have with Said Swimming Roll or Actions, and Trying to Accomplish Side Objectives get you more points. The ones that place within the Top 3 can move onto the District Qualifiers and receive Prizing for their Rank. Participates at minimum get a couple of Bottles of Fresh Water and a couple of Oran Granola Bars (+ 3 HP, + 1 Accuracy Dice on Next Attack, Can Be Held) for their troubles
Reading over all this you look back to the school girl, who is looking at you with eager expectation. So, what's you answer going to be? Join in the Prelims directly, or simply watch with your Mons as a spectator? Or try to find a proper Trainer Battle here - though it's not a guarantee, the more Sporty Types tend to be packing Pokemon and are more than willing to have a friendly or heated match!
Like the wind, I come and go as I please... but I am always there to provide a comforting breeze.
