Sylvia’s whiskers twitch slightly with the thought of “direct contact”… if the professor picks up on that, she may realize there’s more Sylvia is choosing not to say.

You only get a nod and a raised eyebrow for your first couple of comments, but your question immediately causes them to scowl and shoot a glance back at the receptionist, who looking both lost and even more nervous than before.

"....No, unfortunately. The reasons for that is simple: International Communications are down, as is International Trade. Despite my repeated inquiries at multiple Embassies I have not received a firm or clear answer as for why or how long until all is restored; at the point I'm suspecting either some for of espionage, counter-espionage pre-caution, or plain sabotage.

"Considering what has happened lately I favor more the later options, personally. *Aggrieved Sigh* I am trying to sort this out to save the trouble of sharing more bad news with my co-researcher, but at this point I imagine my efforts will be futile. Seddi will not be please with this, and frankly neither am I ."

That last point was clearly enunciated and directed towards the attendant and local guards and hovering officials, who all had the decency to look away, cowed by this woman's no nonsense attitude.

Well shit. There goes any plans to get in touch with your friends across the pond, or any means of coordinating at all for anyone else.
