How's it work with being out of encounters but needing to save someone? lol

You can't - if you don't have a Matching Encounter then you can't join in / aid another. Right now Flutter Mane qualifies as Moderate at bare MINIMUM, so Bern, Seddi, and Akamu can help. Those without Encounters/the right kind of Slot can join if they're already with someone or if a Slotted takes the time to pick them up, but won't be able to meaningfully help bar unsual (and usually dire for the Slotless) circumstances. 

In Vern's case he could make his way over to where Darren is at by himself, but by the time he gets there the boy's Fate is Sealed and he's only arriving after it is all said and done.
