Vernax pulls out one of her exact brand of cigars and offers it to her. He purchased them before he realized Cruz was gone, presumably forever.

"The work needs doing," is all he says at first.

After they work together for a bit, he adds "Sorry about today. Things are changing. Changing too fast for someone like me."

The salty sea dog seemed genuinely taken aback as you proffer the G-Smoke, her grim determination breaking as her eyebrows shot up as she stared at them and then you.

".......Thanks."

She tenderly takes it from you, *Snicks!* the end off it with a glib of her thumb, places it in her mouth, and with a sparking *Snap!* of her briefly metallic-blue fingers lights it up. Already great GOUTs of the pungent, fragrant smoke billows forth from your little hidey hole from the main conflict, and you see the old lady ever so slightly relax, a bit of the tension in her shoulders easing a bit. If you got any substances you want to puff, feel free to do so as well. Good weed should be a given, but stuff like Salvia, Sage, or even stuff like Poppy is allowed since Gardena, like most Grass Type Leaders, has her own eccentric relationship with psychoactive plants and an odd love she passed onto you. Or you can light up a G-Smoke yourself, if you REALLY want to smoke up the place nice and good.

For a moment the two of you just work together in silence, digging out the sand bunker and firming it up into a more proper mini-base for others to use/recover in, as well as dig a few more trenches around it. You see her SMASH Rocks that were uncovered into pseudo Hazards to strew about the top and bottoms of some trenches, while you see a Chatot over head do some sweaps and relying messages/alerts above and a tall rat creature using their paint to....create sticky hazards and obnoxious Spikes further afield, as well as reinforcing your bunker and other places with some sort of Defensive Paint.

Its....strangely nice, despite the crisis that was every slowly ramping up and ever encroaching onto the territory you helped made.

Once you break the silence, the lady of the sea simply grunts, then says "Did you cause this trouble? *Shakes head* No. You didn't. Don't go borrowing problems. Taking blame for shit you can't control. *Puffs* ....Stormy weather comes and goes. The tides and sea churns. Handling it all is hard. If you can't....don't. Adapt. Persevere. Hold fast to what matters. Let things change....and do what you can."
