Indeed! I want to improved my artstyle, and actually make more humanoid forms. Human anatomy will actually help me improved my characters creation since I want to be able to craft my own characters, so it will help quite a lot. And it will be help me to craft more unerving humanoid monsters in future games. Monsters to me are supposed to be challenged to players, and depending of the campaigh, enemies with a body type similar to a human can give one type of feeling a normal monster sometimes doesn't always give: Fear. It depends of the situation and campaigh, but a monster who acts as a humanoid being but are actually monstrous can strike a feeling both to players and characters. Specially if such thing was actually human and then turn into a monstrous abomination. The good ol' art of the "uncanny valley". Dragon himself see some of terrifying creatures and he even help me craft some. And Monster Hunter has been a amazing source of inspiration. Both in terms of desigh and monstrous abilities!
Understanble. I guess not everyone of the community enjoy much of the JRPG things, and maybe a part of it was expecting a more complex or crunch system...But in my opinion since I been reading the books the simplicity of the system if part of the charm. Which I know its a bit weird since I been playing PF2e by years by now, but the honest approach in how friendly the system is open more to RP moments. Although the combat system is quite good actually. I specially like the idea of goals in the battle be acting like "Clocks" in the field and then players and mobs actually affected how this clock works. I still need to read more about the system and play it, and good thing a GM friend of mine decided to GMing a Fabula Ultima campaigh, so it will make easier for me to learn the system as a player.
I can understand the feeling. Not all players are that much interested to build a world with the GM, and actually prefer to discovered that world by the GM hands alone. The way I see is like a old pirate person said and I think it's quite fitting on that: "The code is more of a guideline than a strict rule." I like how they put in the GM book that rule, but I see more as a suggestion like: "The rule is like this, but only if you want and how your players want." And I don't think is necessary to the Players actually create the entired WORLD of the campaigh, if they want they can just contribute to their home places of where they characters came from, how they lived, and how they get here...Which in my opinion is not that much different than PC and GM already DO in most campaighs. But then again, understand your reasoning. When I start GMing I will ask my players the creation of the world itself, but I will keep a lot of secrets under my own belt to be revealed in key moments. After all, part of the magic is the DISCOVERY and I think is what make the story more spicy and interesting. But I will also ask what kind of sensitive topics my players want me to avoid in the campaigh, and I will try my best to avoid them, but maybe there gonna be moments those same topics could be mentioned but I will give a headsup before such thing does happen.
And don't worry about it. I not overwhelm me in so many things. I GMing no campaigh at the moment, so I have a good bunch of time to master the system and learn of it. It will take a while until I can fully understand the system, and see in what ways I can actually improved the system more. I also want to learn more about the monster crafting of the game. The game will be inspired by Monster Hunter, but I want to give my own personal flavor and see a group of players fight against ONE single monster. Yes, the migh be times where the players might face more than one monster, but thats the general path I want to go. And as you mentioned, I a big LOVER of monster and the process of monster creation, so trying a system inspired by JRPG's will be such a pleasant experience.
But don't worry. There gonna be other things to do. The game itself opens up to other things like moments of story building between the characters players, bonds between them and npcs, and even moments of where the players can sit on a bonefire and share stories and other things (yes, there a subsystem about this in one of the books who I found very much interesting and for sure gonna put in the game).
Also indeed. As Dragon mentioned, the system is quite good in terms of balance the way PC and certain mobs can change the world and narrative using certain resources...I can tell that in details in a separate post or even another thread explaining a bit more in deep about that to make the discussion a bit easier to digest, since I do have the feeling this post of mine is ALREADY ginormous enough as it is right now.
Yeah. Thats also something that attract me in FU. The system said by itself the many types of inspirations in the game, and even most of its philosophies in deph who get inspired by other games. Monster Hunt is one example but also others such as Bravely Default, Chrono trigger, Final Fantasy and oh so many others. Even animes also inspired this little system. And as someone who read in deep some of these books, I can see the feel the love behind them. And yes, Dragonstrike has been a amazing and patience mentor in my travel though out the Monster Hunter franchise. We finished Rise and its DLC Sunbreak, and we are now conquering the harsh and cruel lands of Monster Hunter World, so I actually pretty excited when this game be fine and tuned. And as he mentioned he's been of great help in create, tuning and refining my monsters to some of my games, so if there is one person in my entire circle of friends who understand my mad scientist process of monster creation is that amazing draconic friend, Windos be a very close second too. I still ask that you been patience with me Dragon my good fella, since I still want to master the monster forge skill in this system. Pf2e does help me train in that system, but this one is more simple but it will required some mastery on my part. I don't want to be a disapoiting. Also...I feel actually flattered that you mentioned I maybe has been giving some ideas for your own creations in Primal Shadows. I feel extremely honored old friend.
I don't know if I said yet, but in case I not: Congrats in your niece buddy! And the other niece that will come on a few months!
And for the people for read this ENORMOUS post: Thank you for reading, and actually sorry for the size of this post. It's been SO long I post anything here, and I get excited to share some of the news and experiences I been having that few words would be impossible to describe most of them. Still not fully. And I agree with you Phantom my great friend: The project still need refining, and maybe it will be good to wait until things been said and done here in the campaighs. And want to actually see if people wants to play the campaigh either as Post by post as we do here, do voice calls for better immersion, or maybe a mix of BOTH. Been working with Dragonstrike with my voice conversation with him. Still need to work on them but I guess it will be good.
Anyway, a good and awesome day to everyone! And Phantom friend, don't sweat. Cult of the Lamb coop will be waiting for you!
And Dragonstrike! Our journey though out World will come out again, I just a little busy at the moment, but we will continue our journey soon!
