[Game Thread] Pokerole Mystery Dungeon: Primal Shadows

Ahahaha, in contrary to Marcus smol Ziggy Kee is all up for cuddle-hugs and suprise-affection!~ And so he doesn't fight nor struggle as Pyra picks him up, instead going all timid and blushy again . It's only when they all get going and proceeding onwards again where Kee will gve the firely demoness  a gentle nuzzle~ and wait for her to be put down again.

Quote:Before anything, he'll retrieve the large branch of a tree he packed in and uses it to poke/move the suspected Item, if he can reach it with the branch in the first place. If he CAN, the he'll try to retrieve it using the branch. If the branch is too short to reach the suspected Item, then Kee will at least poke the walls with these large jagged rocks to see if there's a danger of them breaking/to check how stable they are: Is it possible to climb down THESE rocks in particular to the bottom to reach the Item and then climbing out the same side you came from? What would the roll of this action look like?

The branch is definitely waaaaaaayyyy too short to reach that item.  The pit's rather deep.

When Kee pokes one of the stones jutting out of the wall, it definitely seems like the handhold is a little loose.  Other stones aren't as loose, however, so climbing down and back up again without getting hurt may be doable, but it'll probably be somewhat difficult.

Climbing down (and up) would be a Dex + Survival + Athletics check.

It won't affect tile movement mechanically here, but roleplay wise, it's definitely slowing everyone down because movement speed scales with your current Dexterity score.

Well, since no one say anything about Kogeki suggestion about try to Quick Attack to reach the item, I will understand that a "no" answer. Then he will just wait for Kee do his thing and help when it is necessary like rescue Kee or something if his plan didn't work.

(...) Daxter has the highest Athletics pool, at 4d6.  Everyone else has 2-3 normally.

Humm well, Ziggy Kee quickly has enough of poking the wall and jagged stones and packs the branch away again - "Looks stable 'nough t'carefully climb down..." - and nudges Daxter/@no one. "Hey there, Dax....", *glancing down the bottom of the pit*, "Say, ya're brave 'nough to attempt climbin' down to get that precious Item? Since ya're, ya know, tha most 'thletic of us. I know ya can do it!! ( ÒωÓ)و☆"

"...It's dangerous t'go alone. Take this, will ya?" He snatches an Oran Berry from his guitar bag and offers it to Dax. "Just in case ya...trip or somethin', don't want ya to get hurt an' stand there without any remedy", Kee offers a bit timidly yet genuinely caring. Towards Kogeki/@Spiritmon Kee adds in the same timid manner "Ya please prepare yarself to quick-attack him outta danger - but only if things go amiss baaadly, k? I DON'T want ya to get hurt neither."

Seems like Kee does not enjoy letting others put themselves in danger for the sake of the group as his distinct protective instinct flares up to a degree. It conflicts somewhat with his belief that Daxter CAN.DO.IT.

Kogeki see at Kee for a moment...and then nod his head in agreement. "Understood. If things go dangerous I will my Quick Attack to reach Daxter and save him from wound from the fall."

"I promise to try avoid hurt myself. But my priority will be Daxter safety first."

(As No One is a bit busy right now, he has requested that I auto Daxter to keep things moving.)

Daxter takes the Oran Berry, checks that he has enough space in his bag and starts stretching.  "Well, I can certainly try.  Wish me luck!"

Daxter slowly lowers himself over the edge and attempts to make his way down the side of the hole carefully...

Athletics Check 1
(4)(2)(3)(2) 1 Success, partial pass

Daxter makes it about halfway down, but that's when one of the rocks embedded in the side comes loose, causing him to fall the rest of the way to the bottom of the hole.

(4)(3) Daxter takes 1 damage 4/5 HP

He winces slightly as he gets up and checks to make sure nothing's broken.  Nothing seems to hurt too badly, so he gives everyone up top a thumbs up before looking for the item he went down there to grab.  He finds it, then gives the wall a good look before he makes a second attempt to climb it.

Nature Check
(4)(3)(5)(4) 3 successes, +1d6 on the next Athletics check

Athletics Check 2
(4)(5)(1)(2)(3) 2 successes, pass

There's another moment about halfway up the climb where Daxter almost falls back to the bottom of the hole when he almost grabs another loose rock, but he stops himself before he does, remembering where the previous loose rock had roughly been and grabbing a different one instead.  The rest of the climb is without incident, and Daxter pulls himself back over the edge of the hole with the item in hand.

"Hey, this is kinda neat!  Check it out!"

The item that Daxter's picked up looks like a bracelet of some kind.  A single gemstone like object is set in it, and the metal has three similarly shaped indentations wrapped around the band.

Marcus recognizes what it is immediately.

"Oh hey, that's a good find!  That's what's known as a Looplet!  Some dungeons have tear shaped like crystals in them called Emera, and you can set them in these bracelets to trigger all sorts of effects!"

.jpg   Questioning Cubone.JPG (Size: 8.75 KB / Downloads: 70)

"I don't think there's any Emera in this Mystery Dungeon, though, so finding a Looplet here is a bit strange, to be honest.  But the Looplets themselves can have effects of their own, too, similar to the scarves a lot of pokemon wear.  This one looks rather plain, however...I'm not sure it'll have any effect at all if worn."

"Still, worth holding onto it, I suppose.  Good job with getting that out of that hole, Daxter!  Why don't you hold onto it for now since you're the one who retrieved it?"

"Sure, I guess.  Unless someone else really wants it?"

Aside from that one item at the bottom of the hole, there doesn't appear to be much else here, so what's next on the agenda?

"Interesting...This indeed come in handy in the future. Excellent work there Dax."

"Maybe there is Emera somewhere else close in this Dungeon? It might be one of the items around here."

"Kee, since you have the Specs where you think we should go now?"

*GASP* Looplets and Emeras are a thing in PrimalShadows? Now that's a pleasant suprise! \(^0^)/

Ziggy Kee attentively watches as Dax climbs down, his fur bristled and his tail wagging out of worry excitement. He wasn't aware that he's been holding his breath too as he gasps and sighs in relief upon the waterly Charmander tripping and giving a thumbs-up!

A compassionate headbutt is given to Dax once he made it back to the other, then Kee eagerly sniffs and inspects that odd yet pretty bracelet-thingy with MASSIVE curiosity. "Now that's quite a pretty thin' 'ndeed, well done!~☆ ....So that thingy's called a 'Looplet', Marcus? How 'nt'resting, how VERY 'nt'resting....!!1" *lots of pondering* "Say Marcus, d'ya know of a Dungeon where these 'Emera' can be found? An' how d'we recognize an 'Emera' as such? Don't wanna stumble upon one of these neat thingies on further 'dventures by chance an' miss out on takin' 'em along, ya know...?" From the look and expression, Kee's ALL FIRED UP about this new discovery: Can't seem to wait to get his paws onto a few of these Emeras!!

Oh, and Daxter can totally keep a hold of the found Looplet for now, given that he retrived it from that hole. But Kee will kindly request the loaned Oran Berry back, "No sandstorm pesterin' us, so ya'll be fine in no time 'gain from that bit-of-unluckeh tripping there. Fine an' ready t'battle, ya'll see!~" ( ÒωÓ)و☆

Onwards Ziggy Kee leads the others, his gaze fixated on what's ahead. "How 'bout 'nother battle? Aaaaand there's also loot nearby!"

Daxter rubs his arms ruefully as he tumbles downwards, but makes it back in one piece. He examines the Emera carefully as he replies to Kee. "Oh, uh, what? Oh yeah, the berry. Thanks, mate. Here, take it back."

"Well, there's a good amount of dungeons with Emera in them scattered all around the world from what I hear.  Wouldn't really be able to tell you more than that since I've rarely left the Sand Continent, though.  And you'll know what an Emera looks like when you see one.  They're almost crystalline, tear drop shaped stones.  They're incredibly fragile, though, and have this weird tendency to shatter into dust if left on their own.  But if you gather enough dust, it can form into a new emera.  They're quite strange, particularly since they almost instantly break apart when taken outside of Mystery Dungeons.  Like the Mystery Dungeons they seem to be tied to, they're a mystery wrapped in an enigma."

-------------------------------------

Kee leads the group to a large clearing with three circular stone pillars proudly on display in the middle.  A path in the top left of the tile curves around the cliffs, leading to places unknown, while another path to the right appears to be guarded.

And the pokemon guarding it doesn't look very happy, as they lift the two large stone columns they're holding in each hand and slam them into the ground, causing more stone pillars to block the path the group just came from!

"What the...what's the big idea?!  You're one of the Conkeldurr, right?"

"Hmph.  More intruders.  You are not welcome in this place."

Conkeldurr's words are punctuated by the appearance of several wild pokemon.  A Combusken drops down from somewhere above and takes a battle ready stance, a Forretress rolls out of a passageway hidden among the rocks adjacent to the wall, and a Murkrow angrily squawks at the adventurers from a perch on top of one of the three stone pillars.

Marcus quietly addresses the group once the wild pokemon show up.  "...I don't think this is going to be easy if we get into a fight.  The Conkeldurr are smarter than most wild pokemon.  We might be able to talk our way out of this, but...well, I'll leave it up to you all to decide what we should do."

The Conkeldurr doesn't seem to be impressed by the initial lack of a prompt response.

"I said you are not welcome here, intruders.  Leave."
