What are your orders, Poliwag fighters?

Vincent, you have time to join an encounter slot if you wish.

Quietly, Ventus creeps up on the Poliwag, watching them stealthly, before taking a seat close enough to see them in detail, but not too close as to provoke them.  Once settled, he takes out a what looks like a journal from his satchel. Looking over to his tag along, he gave her a simple smile, and motioned to sit with him. "I'm going to take a few notes on how these Poliwag behave naturally before combating them. It shouldn't take too long, but if you find youself getting board, then I don't mind if you wnader off and do something else in the meantime," he whispered to her, pulling a pen from his pocket while speaking to her.

Soon, Ventus begins to take notes on how the Poliwag and what they generally do in their habitat, taking care not to make any noise while doing so. With a deft hand and an eye for detail, he jolted down his observations of the species and drew a few sketches of them playing in the creek, all with an intense look of concentration. His note taking continued for around half an hour, pen slightly gliding across the paper, before he put both away on his person. Slowly standing up, he released his Topegi right beside him. Raphael blinked at its sudden surroundings, but soon a happy smile crossed it face as it began to examine its new surroundings.

Before it could waddle off to explore, though, it suddenly perked up, before turning towards it master attentively. Ventus put a finger towards his lip in a shusing motion, and point towards the Poliwag. An immediate look of understand appeared on Raphael's face, before it stealthly (as much as it could) waddle towards the Poliwag, hoping to get a quick Strike on his opponent!

Vincent whistles sharply and there's a slight commotion in the bushes as Winston comes bounding over, a food dish in his mouth, a pair of eyes peering over the lip of the bowl.

"Clancey. Right. Got it. Nice to meet you by the way." He offers the survivalist a firm handshake.

He considers for a moment. Moran was still new at things, and Poison Powder would only leave everyone in tears, so that was out. Eh. Only one choice then.

"Winston." He reaches down and scratches the dog behind the ears. "Favor for a favor."

"Clancey, Lets dance."

Poliwag Round 1

Sneaking
1 Dex + 3 Survival = 4 dice
(1)(3)(4)(3) - 1 success

Poliwag tries to hear you
1 insight + 1 survival = 2 dice
(4)(6) - 2 successes!

Poliwag perks up, and treads water with its tail for a moment. Then it glimpses Togepi! Togepi fails to get the drop.

Poliwag's initiative 1d6+2 (5) = 7
Togepi's initiative 1d6+1 (6) = 7
Tie goes to Poliwag.

Water Gun
Acc: 2 dex + 1 fight +1 canalize = 4 dice
(5)(4)(2)(1)
Dmg: 2 power + 2 str + 1 stab -2 vitality = 3 dice.
(6)(4)(5) = 3 successes. Togepi takes 3 damage!

Poliwag squirts Togepi with a blast of water at pretty much point blank range.

Strike
Acc: 1 dex + 0 fight = 1 dice
(2) - no such luck.

Togepi misses his target as he comes lunging out of the rushes, and tips over into the shallows of the puddle. He splashes happily for a while before remembering there is a battle.

Poliwag Round 2

Sounds like it may be time for Shiva to join in?

Clancey sends out Meowth.

Growlithe's initiative: 8
Meowth: 6

Growlithe will go first.

For your battlefield, you have chosen an abandoned campsite in a ring of tall firs. There is a big flat spot for a tent or vehicle, a wooden table, and an empty fire ring. Looks like all the firewood is gone too.

A Rattata watches from behind a log used to sit on, hoping one of you will drop some food. It doesn't seem aggressive, it is just there to set the scene.

Forgot to mention earlier, you can encounter a Pidgey or Rattata at any time you choose on this route.

"Cats and dogs, eh Clancey." He chuckles.

"Winston. Let's get things warmed up over here. Ember!"

Shaking his head, Ventus throws out Ekan's Pokeball, summoning it to the field. The snake, quite startled that it suddenly in a river instead of its nice warm burrow, began to thrash a bit in the stream before Ventus whistle for its attension. Ekan's stopped panically, and turned towards the noise, its eyes narrowing as it spots who made the sound. It made a disgruntled hiss at him, before the Poliwag in the stream caught its attension. 'Not quite happy to see me, but that's a given, with the rough treatment it received at Winston's fanged grasp,' he though, thinking of what exactly to do with it, before calmly talking to it.

"Aspis, this is your new master speaking. I'm sorry that I didn't get to know you the day before yesterday, but I need your help in battling this tadpole. I promise you'll be feed well if you follow my instructions, so please use Glare on the Poliwag. Raphael, distract the Poliwag and dodge any incoming attacks "

Clancey Round 1

Intimidate: Meowth's attacks will deal less damage.

Ember
(1)(6)(6)(2)(1)(6) = 2 successes, hit
3 vit, so 2 dice of damage
(3)(5) = 1 success. Meowth takes 1 point of damage.
Burn chance: (2) fail

Winston barks and sends a small stream of flame at Meowth. Meowth manages to dodge most of it, ducking and weaving in and out of cover as if it were a marine, clearly trained to do this. Still, the attack was not without effect.

Scratch
Acc: 4 dice
(3)(3)(1)(3) fail

You get the sense that Meowth has spent more time training its flashy defenses than its attacks. All its fur stands up on end when confronted with its ancestral enemy: the dog.

... This was actually quite interesting. Anything else but boring, as he claimed it might be. Nope, in fact, Shiva was totally fine with just being there, she even began to enjoy it. Being in Ventus's presence had something soothing to her (or was it just because they were surrounded by nature and silence? Maybe. But he cleary added to the soothing factor), as both were where they currently were.

She moved her gaze between him/his papers (what a somehow cute handwriting he has~) and that Poliwag while feeling... peaceful. Like the world's mean side did not matter for a short time. Cottonee placed itself in her lap, lured by the calmness, and seemed thankful for the strokes through its fluffy body its Master shortly after provided.

Action: Stay where I am, continue petting Cottonee, even after Ven began the battle. Watching him+his battle is fine, just being a vary of his Ekans - nice nickname, by the way - because snakes again... Only chip in in battle if he askes to do so. Hoping to encounter those Hoppip from earlier soon.

That's a seriously fat cat for a supposedly easy fight. Got to play this one smart. Sophisticated, even.

Winston:

Initiative: 8

Order:
Evasion, circling the battlefield to use said log for cover and intentionally spooking the observing Rattata into making a run for it with Intimidate. Hopefully the distracting presence of a prey Pokemon in the vicinity plus partial cover will have at least some effect on the Meowth.
Let's follow this with an Ember.

Focus for this fight is staying fresh and evading damage. Any chip damage I can sneak in likewise is welcome, but not the current goal.

Evasion: Pool 4
Dexterity + Fight +Evasion - Multi Action Penalty (2)

Ember:
Accuracy:
 Pool 2
3 Dex + 3 Fight + 0 Channel - Multi Action Penalty (4)
Damage: Pool 2, Burn *1*
2 Special (Str) + 2 + STAB - 3 Target Vitality
Burn *1*

Vincent studies the fight with some concern. Whatever Chancey has been feeding that cat is impressive, and there's some wonder how far he's progressed as a trainer.

It might not have been a good idea to pick a fight so early on in his career. Then again. You win some, you lose some.

Time to even these odds. Unlike that Meowth, Winston might not be built like a brick outhouse, but he was fast. Time to play that advantage.

"Winston. Duck and cover!" He gestures to the log as the growlithe instinctively followed it's trainers commands, darting around the field and playing up the gap between it and the Meowth before bounding over the log in a graceful leap.

Winston gives a sharp bark, the arrival of a much larger Pokemon in a sudden lunge into it's previously 'safe' observation spot sending the Rattata into blind panicked flight.

Smart boy. Use the cover. Use the Rat. Divide his attention.

"Keep the heat up and strike when able! EMBER!"
