Having access to a Quad Effective move in the form of Ice Fang certainly helps as well! Ventus is going to have some...fascinating questions for this man by the time he's through with this encounter...

2x.  Ice isn't SE against bug.  All 3 elemental fangs are 2x effective.  Freezing the bug solid would be nice, though, that's for sure.
Figured they would be, but oh well. Its better to freeze the bastard than try a Fire Fang so close to the water, or risk electrocuting Apsis with Thunder Fang.

Freeze also temporarily completely neutralizes the threat, which is great.  Burns are nice for the damage, but yeah, the water kinda neuters that completely...and paralysis...well, if that's needed, there's Thunder Wave (and Nuzzle if Pinsir gets closer to land).

Yeah, you would think Bug would be weak to ice because bugs hate cold weather, but thems the breaks.

Not all bugs die in cold weather, but the vast majority dispise those condition anyway, so I don't see why Gamefreak didn't make the type weak to that as well. Perhaps they didn't want to make Ice type move THAT powerful?

Ice is already one of the best offensive types in the game as it is, yes.  And on top of that, Gen 1 Blizzard was 90% accurate.  Yeah.  90%.  With a 30% chance to Freeze in the Japanese Red and Green (the usual 10% starting in international Red and Blue).  And Freeze was an instant kill in gen 1 multiplayer since thawing mechanics didn't exist until Gold and Silver.

I'd say Ice was powerful enough back then. Wouldn't you?

(oh, and gen 1 bugs were trash tier for the most part, with Scyther and Pinsir mostly being the sole exceptions.  Was there really any need to make them even weaker?)

Fair enough points, mate. I hope the move freezes the bug, or at least hobbles M-Pincir enough that it can't do snap anymore.

Considering the fact that its trainer is paralyzed and mostly underwater, I don't think you need to worry about any more surprise potions at least (even if they do only heal 1 HP at a time for Pinsir now)  Taking down Pinsir shouldn't be too difficult now as long as it doesn't manage to KO Aspis somehow (yeah, good luck doing that before Aspis KOs you, ya dang bug)

I also hope Ventus shows a little restraint for now.  If not for the trainer's sake, then for the others'.

Since he doesn't know that the devious man has hurt/assalted/threatened to kill Nathan, the most he's going to do is just interrogate the hell out of them, knock them out, confiscate their Mega Bracelet + stone for themselves, then cart them back to town. No one in hell is he going to let them keep something that dangerous in the hands of a criminal. If the guy tries to get away, however, Apsis is just going to crush their legs to a pulp first to prevent such a mishap from occurring. Its all about danger control for Ventus, after all...

Careful.  Ventus could be sanctioned for that...plus, he doesn't necessarily know this trainer is a criminal yet.  All he technically knows is what he felt coming from the guy's emotions and that the newcomer decided it was a good idea to knock him into the drink for some random reason...

He doesn't even know he's a criminal. He's only had his Pokemon attack your Pokemon.

As far as Ventus knows, Sage just ran up and pushed this guy into the pond and then a 4 v 1 Pokemon battle ensued.

That's why interrogation comes first! If he gets a remotely negative or malicious vibe from this guy, say bye bye to his Mega Items. Ventus will of course turn them over to the League as a part of there investigation, as while he would have no problem with having that power, he doesn't desire it so much as to prevent that bloke from misusing it ever again.

That, and he has an somewhat Alolan mindset when it comes to Megalutions : they are dangerous for both the Pokémon, trainer, and opponent, if the power it offers is not controled. Ven doesn't believe that having such an artifact would be a swell idea for him, given his...ruthless nature. If anything, he'd give it to Nathan, since he trust them to be able to use it properly WITHOUT making a total mess of things...
