[Meta thread] Iron's PokeRole Adventure: The Skull Ruins
(06-06-2017, 04:51 PM)Lord Windos Wrote: Read something in the rule book on Page 368 that said that while Stat increase moves don't stack, nor do they stack with items that increases stats, a stat increase move can stack with abilities that increase stats. So Nasty Plot + Minus/Plus being trigger would give a strength boost of 4, instead of just 2.

Huh.  That would make Porygon even MORE of a beast.  Fun.

That's exactly what I caught up after I acquired the rodents and rumaging in the Corebook about their mechanics. But upon asking about this, Iron told me that Nasty Plot does not stack with Plus-Minus-Ability triggered, as much as I'd enjoy it would.

Unless Iron makes some more house rules, this could be an interesting method to buff up stats without having to rely on high levels so much. I wonder if the inverse is true as well : Stat decreases from moves stack with abilities that lower stats. If that was the case, having Apsis with Intimidate, then using Acid Spray would totally nullify an opponent's attack! Woot!

I also wonder if Iron needs to give a couple of points of Specialty for Sage's chara, since he has started so late in the campaign compared to the rest of us. Giving him a slight boost would help him keep up with the rest of the party, and make it feel like he's contributing to fights, rather than being a hindrance.

Why not? I'm curious why he would put this in place, when its not particularly game breaking. Designing encounter with higher vitality, or ways to lower STR would be a nice balance to such stacking.

That's an odd choice for the pokerole writers...Acid Spray lowers Special Defense in the games, not Special Attack...

@Iron: Sorry for the disturbance, but can you explain your actual reason for excluding this? I can imagine the reason, but I'd like to hear from you directly.

Yeah, I'm puzzled as to why Sage seemingly doesn't have any experience when we've been building ours up for 2 months, and Valder came in with a little to compensate for that...

Maybe it's something to do with his backstory?

Oh goodie, an Aerial Ace. Great. Can't miss with that move. Guess @Sage isn't quite as fresh as we first thought...

Again with the 'attack until it's dead' command though...hmmm....

Looks like we have another brutal fighter with us! Goody! Of course, Shiva and Nathan will have to work double time to keep Ventus, Sage's chara, and Valder from cutting a bloody swath through Chesire! Mwahahaha!

Nothing stacks. Only the highest modifier of a particular attribute ever applies. Otherwise things could be through the roof. It's a rule straight out of the book and I think it's a very good one. Remember how we didn't apply it in the Ekans encounter?

Increasing Vitality across the board would just make for longer encounters instead of more exciting ones, and wouldn't be realistic. Why are all the enemy Pokemon so much tougher than yours? That'd be silly.

I did give Sage some starting boosts but I will revisit and see if somehow one got missed or something.
