Consider they are akin to pure Darkness made manifest, it having fur would be an oddity indeed. Now, what causes nightmares and has a black color pattern fur coat....

Not just nightmares.  MASS nightmares.  For 2-3 weeks straight.  And every pokemon in the 'dex that's listed as being black in color has nothing to do with causing nightmares (with the sole exception of Darkrai, of course.  The only ghosts on the list are Giratina, the Duskull line, the Shuppet line, Yamask, and the Litwick line.  None of which have fur.) We might be dealing with one of the Creshire native fakemon that Iron's been cooking up...

Well, that will be an exciting experience for my character, given he's a Pokémon researcher AND love Ghost Pokémon quite a lot! Though if its fae like in nature and purpose, Ventus might just get a little too...eager to meet it.

Yeah, none of the ghost, fairy, dark (bar Darkrai), nor psychic pokemon on that list in the official dex have the ability to cause nightmares. This is going to be...interesting.

EDIT: Oh, and checking the Tandorian pokemon as well, none of them can do it either.
