[Meta thread] Iron's PokeRole Adventure: The Skull Ruins
(07-03-2017, 08:42 PM)Iron Wrote: Fine with me. Just post the conditions where you'd want something else to happen aside from Absorbing.

Essentially, Michael will Absorb when its has either Super Effective or neutral damage on opponent, and it will just use Strike on everything else but Zippy (Michael will Knock them Down first, THEN Strike them.). Simple, really. The tricky part is to manage all those fights without turning my mushroom into multch....

For a Pokemon that takes no damage, a fight against two or three opponents in the span of two or three hours is reasonable. As you start getting mulched, it gets harder and harder to be at your best. If you're using Potions, you face the diminishing returns of halved potion effectiveness. If you're waiting it out, it's just 2hp healed every 8 hours since you're caring for the Pokemon carefully. Michael can use Absorb on wild Pokemon to get back into shape though.

All things considered, I think battling a gauntlet of six Pokemon across an entire 16 hour day would be perfectly safe as long as you don't get KO'd more than once.

So that means he'll be facing:
A dancer with an injured (but healing) arm and a pearl that amplifies his psychic abilities to frightening levels
A fire horse
Two bees (only one might be necessary though)
An electric spider
and maybe a starfish (not so sure if this one will happen, but it might)

The duck is currently in the PC, unfortunately.

Well, this oughta be fun. Kirlia and Staryu are the only ones on that list that don't resist Absorb, and Kirlia is, to put it bluntly, devastatingly powerful with the pearl and calm mind (gotta love having eight damage dice before the enemy defense and type advantages are factored in). And he can heal up with Draining Kiss if things go awry somehow too, so even better.

How much HP does Michael have, again?

Michael has 5 HP, but if you factor in Absorb restoring at minimum 1 HP per usage, it can effectively double it HP, assuming no one blow knock him clean out. Given that Kirla has 8 fraggen damage dice per attack, though, and its unlikey that my mushroom will survive. At all, really. If he had both a Toxic orb and Leech Seed, it could maybe stand a chance, but again that attack power.... Even factoring in my Vit chopping off 2 damage from that assault, you Pokémon can still OHKO them, and if it doesn't then the follow up attack most likely will!

Shroomish is doomed against Swiftfire (unless the dice REALLY hate you for some reason), has a chance against Skippy (Stirke and Knockdown can help!), a better chance against Staryu, and less of a chance against Grid (Bug type plus Electric Web throws a wrench in Michael survivability, but it has Low HP). My mushroom is not going to get mulched-its goind to be puréed.

Maybe we could do it one battle at a time and see how Michael's ego reacts to each one.

That could work, but Michael is really self assured about its battle prowess. His egotistical attitude is not going away after an individual battle, unless he's utterly creamed before he has a chance to react or do damage. Fighting Kirlia or Swiftfire first could deflate his macho attitude, but if he somehow puts a good showing in his fights, its only going to get worse! I can't believe I'm saying this, but Kirlia needs to OHKO my mushroom if he's going to progress on the whole 'humility' thing....

Here's the sad part about facing Staryu: it has 7 dice for the base damage on Water Gun.  Meaning he hits way harder with that against a grass type than with with Tackle (and Psywave is puny for the time being against most foes.  Just wait until Nathan has 8 gym badges though and it has a damage pool of 9 dice that can't be reduced via defense!  Nothing is safe from that, bar dark types.). Tackle could be more consistent if Staryu is unlucky, though...

Considering Nathan has 3 strength, all the moves I'll be using have 2 power (except Leech Life), STAB, and all of them have a type advantage or boosting item...yeah.

Staryu might be the only one Michael could potentially defeat, and even that is iffy because it'll have a damage pool of 5 -1 damage with Water Gun. Or a damage pool of 3 with Tackle.

Grid is pretty likely to beat Michael because of Leech Life being a SE HP absorbing move.  3 dice +1 is a pretty good overall damage pool and could still end the fight in 1 turn potentially.

Kirlia could just outright OHKO Michael even without Calm Mind and a type advantage.  7 dice base becomes 5 after defense.  Yikes.

Swiftfire and the combee all have a final damage pool of 4 dice +1...so they could all just outright dissolve Michael with any one hit as well.

Meanwhile, Michael is going to be using the 1 power Absorb against Nathan's 3 Vitality...(how much strength does Ventus have, again?)

His damage will be bad and he won't be able to consistently take hits.  He'll have to get pretty lucky with Nathan's pokemon missing and scoring low damage to even stand a chance against just one of them (including Staryu).

No better way to teach humility than to be beaten by something you should have the advantage against, right?

Ventus has 2 STR, which is enough for his purposes to deal some damage. Between debuffs and move diversity, I haven't needed to much power up until this point (Sleep, Poison, Paralysis, Burn, and Freeze, plus Atk and Def debuffs make for lovely fun!).

If you send in Staryu and it wins, that would certainly do the trick in humiliating it and lowering its ego, but that'll have an unintended side effect- its going to piss him off something fierce. He's going to very furious, and its only going to get worse as he's beaten repeatedly into the ground. He'll learn discipline this way, but he'll end up developing a grudge against all of Nathan's Pokémon during the process, unless both Ventus and Nathan take care to prevent that. With his smarting pride, he's liable to lash out against his master, since he promised them that they would be able to surpass anything.

Still, he'll grow stronger from this experience. He'll just be extremely surly because of it, but he won't be egotistical, macho, nor a braggart anymore.

Hey, people, before choosing a ton of moves you'd like to have tutored by me(?), don't forget that tutoring a move is not that easy for Shiva! She's just learning about that field herself.

About Play Rough, I love that move in the Games, but am unsure whether I shall teach that since I'm not really into moves that use Brawl-Stat in their rolls.

So 2 strength on a 1 power move against 3 vitality...with Absorb, it'll have a damage pool of 1 (+1 damage against Staryu, -1 against everything else bar Kirlia), and with Strike, that's also a damage pool of 1.  Yeesh.

I think the only choice I really need to make is whether Staryu uses Tackle or Water Gun if it comes out.  And how many pokemon Nathan is going to use against Michael as well (which he'll likely discuss with Ventus before starting).

This is going to give Michael a real good whooping, that's for sure...
