I love the role I am taking in this campaign. I really do, and I grew attatched to my character. (Does that sound creepy? I don't know if that's normal in a tabletopRPG...) She feels natural to me, and I have fun in whatever she does. However, I never thought that the insecurity I gave her would spiral down like this and end up in the current situation. It pains me, but it's interesting and amazing the same time... I knew that she might feel overshadowed at some point because I made her no 'natural battler' in contrast to Nathan and Ven, but I never imagined it to be that intense. :C I knew that she might lag behind a little because she 1. shied away from direct practical Pokemon Battle at the start and 2. was refusing to the Gym Challenge at first, but I am taking effort to change this into a positive direction. She promised herself to grow stronger, after all.
More than before, I think Shiva just needs time to develop strength and skill. Most of my Pokemon's best and key moves are learned realtively late (average 35XP) and need extra-effort to reach next stage in evolution. Seeing in-character how Nathan and Ventus were able to book fast successes is encouraging and dishearting at the same time for her, a dangerous combination... But I believe things will become way better for her if
1. we reach Ginger Town again or/and
2. something in her own rows evolves or/and
3. that black-spotted egg hatches
since all of these would show that the effort taken was worth it and pays off in the end, effort she invested all alone. That literal reaping the fruits of own labours.
Might as well share a headcanon I developed here: There is indeed one thing where Shiva would be able to shine and likely outspeed the other party members with relative ease: In the role of a Pokemon Coordinator. Given her backgroud, personality and attitude, I believe she would be able to pull off an amazing show, especially with Azurill on her side (Almost forgot that the blue mouse has some sort of sideplot too!) There are also battles included (at least in the Anime), but the feeling is rather different to me since bringing down the foe fast and with pure strength is not what counts here. If we'd use Contest Stat in this campaign, I'd outright have Shiva start with 4 points in this stat. But I am not sure whether @Iron would allow me to add Contest back to me and actively use that Stat in Rolls instead of replacing it with Fight... (Maybe to make up for me not taking on the Houndour Boss Battle neither Corsage Gym = to prevent me from falling back in XP more, or as a kickstarter to grow stronger...? I don't know...)
@Lord Windos, stop with feeling guilty, please...It may be partially both your character's fault, but never ever on purpose. There is no need to feel bad, and there are ways to make up to her if desired. Shiva has to deal with things like not being experienced in battle yet while you others seem to be, and I am working on it. She will likely always feel a little isolated when it comes to 'how can I most efficiently defeat this or that person?', but she has to get used to this. She is well aware of the niche she craved in the group since Ventus told her back then in Ginger Twon when she had her first attack of selfblame, she just tends to forget it if none reminds her on it/ she never receives a direct 'Thank you' in return. Don't we all seek appreciation from others? Shiva does subliminally, more than the others maybe, and simply wishes to be taken for full. That's a point Ventus is able to help her directly.
There is also an interesting point in her relationship towards other characters: To Nathan, she trys to stay strong for both their sake and values him for knowledge, battle experience and lore of Chreshire. To Ventus, she feels she is allowed to be weak and rely on him when she needs emotional support. No relationship is better then the other since both are valued and important equally, it's simply on a slightly different level. Nothing bad about this to me.
@Dragonstrike, I'd actually appreciate if Nathan would not get Lucky Chant... Reason is because it's somewhat a developing Signature move of Shiva. It's a magical spell, it matches so well with her believe in natural magic and rely on the star's fortune and 'Magical Girl'-aspect... She's taking pride in that move. I already declined tutoring Togekiss in that move for the exact same reason. I don't know how Shiva would in-character feel when she sees that Nathan soft-stole Lucky Chant from her... it'd cause tension and take a way her feeling of uniqueness for having such a rare move. Out-of-character, I'd likely feel a little hurt. ._. Of course I see the power and benefits of that particular move and the last call is of course yours and I don't want to hinder you in any way, I just wished to adress this and forewarn you of things. The Ralts-line has so many other great moves, just as you stated.
