[Game thread] Skull Ruins Pokerole
(Oh, the thread's back, and now I'm even farther behind (-,_ -))

'That Gengar is lovely!' Valder thought to himself.
He had all his Pokemon out while watching Ventus and Nathan battling the leader. "What do you think of that Gengar, Ghastly? Nice isn't it?

Valder sat down on the floor where he stood, watching the battle unfold from a small distance. 'lets see how good my companions are'.

Gym Leader Chuckles Round 2

Sensing Ventus' attempt to get under their leader's skin, both Ghost Pokemon flit very near to Ventus on their way to deliver their next moves. A chill sweeps through the paranoid researcher. As he reacts, the lights flicker again. Ventus knows what's coming, but he's not sure how to ward off this attack, fueled as it is by the Pokemon's own life force.

Curse
9 dice, -2 pain, -3 actions, -1 dex = 3 dice
(6)(6)(6) *shiver*
Apsis is cursed.
Curse Dmg: (2)(1)(1) Banette actually takes no damage at all from the Curse, being a creature of vengeance and mischief.

When the lights come on again, long wicked pins are sticking out of Banette's body. The pain they cause is all acting on Apsis, not the Pokemon.

Electroweb
(4)(3)(1)(1)(6)(5) + (1)(1): 1 Success

Evasion
3* Dex + 3 Fight +3 Evasion -2 pain -4 for actions = 3 dice
(4)(1)(6) Banette evades
Gengar's dice pool is also 9, but only -2 for actions and -1 pain = 6 dice
(4)(3)(6)(2)(1)(5) Gengar evades.

Bite
4 dice + Curse
(2)(2)(5)(4) + (1)(1) = 1 success
Dmg: (2)(1) + (1)(1) Uh, guess it still does 1 damage?
Banette takes 1 dmg 2/7hp -2 pain -1dex -1def
Flinch: (2)(5)(3)

"Gengar, that snake is guarding that tiny Pokemon all too well. Please remove it. Banette, please follow up with your special melee attack."

Hypnosis on Apsis.
3* Dex + 3 Fight + 2 Allure -4 move accuracy -3 actions ignoring pain with a Will Point = 1 dice
(5)
Apsis falls asleep!
Grid still has cover, for he can move around behind the bigger snake, but it will not be effective in close quarters (melee).

???
(?)
Banette disappears! Grid looks around, but cannot see where Banette has gone to. Nathan fears he might have seen Banette's zipper twitch.

That's Banette's third action and Gengar's second, so it is up to Grid, who has only used 1 action of 3. Nathan is pretty sure that wasn't Destiny Bond, so he gives Grid the go ahead.

Action 2: Electroweb Bug-aloo
(6)(2)(6)(3)(6) + (1)(1) = 2 successes
(4)(1)(6)(5) + (1)(1) Gengar takes 2 damage. 4/8hp  -2 pain -1 dex -1 def
You're not sure what happens to Banette.

Apsis is asleep.

Electroweb 3
(5)(4)(3)(3) + (1)(1) Success
(6)(1)(2)(3) + (1)(1) No damage.

Apsis snores. Insight check: (5)(4)(5)(2) + (1)(1) = 2 successes out of 5 necessary.
Even in sleep, Apsis is tormented by the Curse.

Burn
I forgot to apply Curse last round to this roll, but I'll let you have it since it was my mistake and an entire round has gone by.
It's now impossible to resist the burn though, so Grid takes 1 damage, his first point of damage lol.

Shed Skin
(4)(5)(4)

"Perhaps that will be enough setting up, my ghosts, and it can be time to bring the real fight to these good Pokemon."

Sailor Nightshade Round 1

"I'm Nightshade! My name is a paradox, for I work in the sunlight of day - but Nightshade's scientific name is Solanum, 'of the sun!' Let's get started! Victreebel, use Stockpile while the sun is bright!"

Stockpile
5* Dex + 3 Fight + 2 Canalize -2 actions = 8 dice
(6)(2)(3)(2)(5)(1)(4)(1)
+1 Def!

Entrainment/Entertainment
(5)(2)(4)(5) -2 Dex to Victreebel as the sunlight ceases to sustain her!
Victreebel, awed by Plusle's entertainment routine, changes ability to be more like Plusle! Aided, of course, by a stream of positive energy waves from the rodent.

Charm
(2)(3)(4)(5)(5)
-2 Str to Victreebel. That pink glow still effuses the flytrap Pokemon, though...

Magical Leaf on Plusle
3 Dex + 0 Survival + 3 Nature - 3 actions = 3 dice
(3)(2)(2), always hits
4* Str + 2 power + 1 STAB -2 vitality = 5 dice
(3)(6)(6)(2)(2) Plusle takes 2 damage. 4/6 hp -1 pain.

Razor Leaf
8 dice without ability, -3 actions, -1 move acc - you have likely prevented crits by removing her ability!
(5)(5)(3)(1) Hits all enemies!
4* Str + 2 power + 1 STAB -2 vit -2 Charm = 3 dice
(3)(5)(6) Plusle takes 2 damage. 2/6hp -2 pain
Minun takes 2 damage. 4/6hp -1 pain.

Swift
4 dice, -2 pain = 2 dice
(5)(2) Always hits
6 dice, -4*/5** vitality = 2 or 1 dice
(6)(3) Victreebel takes 1 damage 6/7hp
Cherrim takes 1 dmg 5/6hp

Charm
(4)(4)(1) -2 Str to Cherrim

Magical Leaf on Plusle
(2)(5) Hit
Down to 3 dice after Charm
(2)(3)(6) Plusle takes 1 dmg 1/6hp. -3 pain!

"I'll give you a chance to withdraw that Plusle, if you like."

The electric rodents have taken much damage, but the enemies have taken a lot more debuffs!

"I wish I had thought to use Worry Seed! That would have been a great tradeoff, ha!"

As soon as the ghosts approached him once more, his hand darted into his satchel quick as lighting and pulled out a incense stick he was saving, just for this occasion. With a match, he quickly ignite the end of it, causing it to send off plumes of purple, lavender and liliac scented smoke into the room. Taking a deep breath, Ventus began chanting the following words, over and over:

"You are not to come near my body.

You are not to go before me.

You are not to follow me.

Where I stop, you are not to stop.

At my home, you shall not enter.

You are not to step in my steps.

You are not to be in my shadow

Where I go, you are not to go "

(Source of chant: http://www.spellsofmagic.com/spells/spir.../page.html)

When Gengar used Hypnosis on Apsis, however, the researcher detected a huge burst of raw, determined willpower coming from Chuckles coinciding with the attack, causing him to halt the cleansing rituatal momentarily. Wave his burning incense around to discourage the spirits from coming any closer for the time being, Ven looked at the gym leader oddly, even more displeased with their descision thus far. "First their was those dreadful, malicious curses you employed that posed just as much of a threat to your own Pokémon as our own, and now you are actively overexerting your taxed spirit to force Gengar to continue to use Hypnosis? Burning both ends of the candlestick produces more light, Chuckles, but causes it to degrade ever more rapidly in the brilliant heat. Keep on using these dangerous tactics of yours, and either you or your Ghost types might 'drop dead' of exhaustion. Just a fair warning," the researcher says flatly, before transitioning his gaze over to his currently invalid Arbok.

Plagued with the wrathful curse of Banette, Apsis fitfully writhes in her sleep, her mind subconsciously trying to awaken to continue the fight. She was not going to be happy about being made invalid by their Ghostly antics, that is for sure.....

Order: Ventus is going into exorcisim mode right now, and Apsis will stay out and try to awaken from her slumber, either through Shed Skin or Accuring enough insight checks. Will still do 2 Bite attacks per round, until either Banatte or Gengar are out. This is getting....well, not good to put it politely.

Nathan flinches a little at the thought of Banette going Mega...but he gets himself together fairly quickly.

'No, it's unlikely he'd have a Mega in the first place.  Particularly such a rare one for this region.  There's no reason to worry about it if it doesn't happen.  I am NOT afraid of these ghosts.  They're still pokemon at the end of the day, just like Houndour.'

So, analysis time.  Aspis was snoozing, so now Grid was much more vulnerable...Banette had vanished...Gengar had only used 2 of its 4 attacks...Grid was also cursed, as was Aspis...and burned on top of that...Ventus was starting to really worry him...Gengar was looking a little tired too...must have put a lot into making sure that Hypnosis had a chance of hitting...time to make a play, then.

"Sorry to burst your bubble, Chuckles, but I'm using one of our substitutions.  Grid, great job for now!  Get back over here, and I'll help you extinguish that burn!"

As Grid scuttles back, Nathan sends out Porygon2! (Download triggers)

"Alright, Porygon2, use Psybeam three times!  Take that Gengar down, then hit the Banette that's going to reappear any second now, and don't Hold Back if you'd miss removing Gengar from the fight because of it!  Use Aspis as cover, just like Grid was doing! If there are no targets to hit, use Defense Curl instead, then Sharpen if there's still no targets and you have an action left!"

Psybeam
Accuracy: 3 Dex + 3 Fight + 2 Canalize -3/4/5 Actions = 5/4/3 D6
Damage: 4* Strength + 2 Power - 2* Defense = 4 D6 (+1 Damage against Gengar)
Effect: May Confuse.  1 Chance Die.

Defense Curl and Sharpen (only if there's no targets Porygon2 can attack with Psybeam)
Accuracy: 3 Dex + 3 Fight + 1 Brawl - 3/4/5 Actions = 4/3/2 D6
Effect: +1 Strength/Defense

Extinguish
(3 Dex + 2 Survival)x2 helper - 1 Curse (if switching doesn't remove it) = 10 D6 - 1 Success

Sailor Nightshade Round 2

"Nightshade... What a pretty name. Hmm..." Quite beautiful members within this family of plants, but many of them are toxic. Others, are commonly consumed. What a contrast... Right, Shiva was clearly beginning to enjoy this challenge. The rays of sunlight and the still present, yet subliminal, numbness of her vivid pool of emotions successfully prevented her from becoming either icy-cold in response to the foe, or too fiered up in determination.

However, her rodents were in no good shape. The battle was taking on them... But in such moments, it wasn't all that new that Shiva refused to let go now. She can be rather stubborn if the situation calls for it - does that count as 'tough'?

She bowed a little to Nightshade in thankful appreciation. "Thanks for the chance to withdraw my positively charged rodent, now. I return that benevolence by not fainting your Pokemon either." ... "Plusle, hang in there... Enough for now. Please remember that you'll be treatened with best care possible if something happens to you... Remember that Weezing? After you survived that, you'll also be able to handle this." This is what could be called trust in one's Pokemon's possibilities and power. Her rodents may be small, but they were...anything else than weak. "You, Minun, did you notice how Victreebel is hindered in her speed by your partner's dancing performance? Please do the same on Cherrim using your electricity."

Pain Penalization on Plusle: -3.
He's out of the fight. However, not withdrawn into Pokeball - rather allowed to rest alongside his Master, watching the further going of the battle and - if there's enough strength left at that 1HP- cheering.

Pain Penalization on Minun: -2 after Magical Leaf.
Accuracy Roll Thunder Wave on Cherrim: 3 Dext + 2 Fight + 2 Channel - 2 Pain = 5 D6
Effect: Inflicts Paralysis = - 2 Dexterity.

If I'm getting it right, the current status is this:
Victreebel: +1 Def due to Stockpile. -2 Dext due to replacing Chlorophyll-ability with Plus-ability. -2 Strength due to Charm. 6/7HP.
Cherrim: -2 Strenght due to Charm, -2 Dext if paralysis is successfully inflicted, Flower Gift-aility is triggered, 5/6HP.

Gym Leader Chuckles Round 3

Chuckles pauses to allow the substitution. "That's a shame, Banette. Use Phantom Force on Arbok instead, though I'm sure it won't put a dent in this beautiful, beautiful monster." Chuckles knows Ventus would have detected his admiration for the serpent even if he hadn't worded it quite that way.

Ventus' incense and chant doesn't lift the halo of energy around Apsis, but it does make the Ghosts a bit nervous, and it definitely relaxes Ventus. To the point where he gains a Will Point!

Chuckles stares down Ventus as Ventus performs the exorcism. "Mr. Zachariah, I am afraid you will find very little magic in the world without the aid of Pokemon. As for burning the candle at both ends, why, my candles do not lack for fuel." A little blue flame somehow winks at Ventus from the Potion chandelier. Then Chuckles is calling out quick orders with an energy that belies his fragile appearance.

Gym Leader Chuckles Round 3

Phantom Force on Apsis
3* Dex + 3 Fight + 2 Brawl -2 pain -2 actions = 4 dice
(3)(4)(2)(1) Hit
3 Str + 3 power +1 STAB -4 vit = 3 dice
(6)(5)(4) Arbok takes 3 damage. 11/15hp. -1 pain.

"A solid strike, Banette. Good work. We will have to work out a new strategy to handle Porygon."

Extinguish
(3)(2)(5)(1)(4)(6)(3)(2)(6)(3) + (1)(1): 3 successes. Should easily be put out next round.

Porygon2 Downloads his database of Ghost counters, and decides that in this case Gengar's spines probably contain the most poison and are thus most susceptible to Psybeam. Every doppelganger is just a little different...

Psybeam
(4)(1)(3)(4)(6) Hit
(2)(1)(2)(6) Gengar takes 2 damage. 2/8hp, leered, webbed, pained.
Chance: (1)

Apsis is snoring, her tongue flicking in and out. Banette is fascinated.

"Gengar, bind your fate to Porygon2, then wait for my mark....."

Gengar moves right up to Porgyon2. Without hesitation, he slides right into Porygon2's space as splintering purple beams begin to connect them, and they both glow with purple light.

Destiny Bond
3* Dex +3 Fight + 3 Canalize -2 pain -2 actions = 5 dice
(2)(1)(4)(6)(5) Success.

"Banette, your order is Knock Off. And leave that Arbok's tongue alone, you don't know where it's been."

Knock Off
3* Dex + 3 Fight + 2 Brawl -2 pain -3 actions = 3 dice
(3)(3)(1)

"I suppose Porygon's held item will remain a mystery...hey, Gengar, dodge!" This last is delivered as Porygon begins another Psybeam.

Psybeam 2
(4)(3)(4)(1) 2 successes
Evasion
3* Dex + 3 Fight +3 Evasion -2 pain -3 actions = 4 dice
(3)(4)(4)(5) Gengar evades the attack.

Psybeam 3
(3)(4)(2) Hit
(6)(3)(3)(2) Gengar and Porygon faint.

Insight: (5)(4)(6)(4) + (1)(1) Apsis awakens!

"And so, each of our little teams is down one player. I must admit the advantage is now yours, with that snake back in action and Banette wounded. Let's see if the Pokemon in this lovely Ultra Ball can do something to change that."

Nathan, who do you send out?

Something must have gone wrong or her mind has been too occupied with the details to remember the basic things, since while she soft-withdrew Plusle, Shiva completely missed out to replace the positively-charged rodent's place in battle... Probably the latter.

However, she was quite undisclosed which of her companions to send out. All of them had their benefits, and while her magical fox would clearly enjoy the experience to his fire being powered up under the not-yet-self-summoned bright sun, Cottonee would adore the sun being the grassy fluffball she is, Kyuu could use some battle experience...

While she was still considering, the sound of some splashing of a suprisingly big wave against the ship's hull brought her attention to the open sea. Over the waves, delighted and not more than a few meters away, Raphael was casually flying around... She waved towards the archangel, hoping to catch his attention!

"Raphael, I could use your grace and guide, and of course you'll be rewarded afterwards for battling for me. Please take on Plusle's place in this battle, and put the giant fly catcher to sleep, and crown things with an Air Slash."

Somehow, it felt good and a little weird at the same time to command one of Ven's Pokemon... But he's not around to see and it flattered her that he entrusted dear Togekiss to her, so it doesn't matter at all!~ He'd never knew if she wouldn't mention it, and if Raphael himself would  somehow express it towards his rightful owner, she doubted that he'd have anything against it... Plus, Shiva had no fear that Raphael might disobey her.

Accuracy Roll Yawn on Victreebel: 3 Dext + 2 Fight + 2 Channel - 2 Actions = 5 D6
Effect: Puts the target to sleep at the start of the next Round.
Secondary Effect: Diminishing the threat Victreebel is. Also, if other people on deck havn't noticed 1. a Togekiss companioning the ship and 2. the battle, maybe they'd do now. However, Shiva doesn't care.

Accuracy Roll Air Slash on Cherrim: 3 Dext + 2 Fight + 2 Channel - 3 Actions = 4 D6
Damage Roll: 2 Strength + 3 Power of move + 1 STAB = 6 D6, 1 Autodamage because of SE.
Additional notes: Default 3 CD to flinch the foe, but thanks to Serence Grace, it's 5.

Nathan facepalms when Gengar ends up being the one who uses Destiny Bond. 'Why, oh why did I not see that coming...gah...guess we have to deal with it now...time to keep playing to our strengths.'

"Grid, get back out there. I know the Burn is still in effect, but we still have plenty of leeway, and Aspis can protect you from most of the attacks again. Let's keep showing him we mean business."
