"Grrrr...I'm almost inclined to just not give her that treat at this point. She could learn a thing or two about patience...I told her she'd get it when we reached the Center..."
Kirlia's chuckling at him again. Nathan could learn a thing or two himself, after all!

Still chuckling, Ventus shook his head a Nathan, bemused in spite of the sodden boy's heated words. "Then you would just be constantly harashed by Apsis until you give her the treat that she has been promised, Nathan. Arboks are persistent predators, so best be prepared for them to constantly shadow you until you give in, conducting all sorts of embarrassing antic towards you in the interim, if you decide to reign on your deal. Hahaha...you will have my deepest sympathies, in that case! Well, I'll be departing now to take care of some errand before we leave this port town, so I'll meet you at the Center later today," he said, before walking towards the exit of the Gym/Stately Mannor. He need to finished up some business in Corsage before he was ready to depart, so it would be fore the best to get started on those task right away! That, and perhaps it would be for the best to give Nathan time to cool of from Apsis' current assault on his dignity, hahahaha!
Order: Conduct one last round of Window Lords business to gain more money that way, before heading back to the Aquarium to hand over that Slowpoke I borrowed earlier, before returning to the Pokémon Center and awaiting the others. Hopefully nothing particularly disasterous happen while Ventus is out and about in town....oops, I jinxed it!

Valder gets 1XP for roleplaying during the fight.
(Awwe . thx, that was nice, 'preciate it)
Valder's getting ready to leave, but first he walks up to Zamboni to ask him something. "Nice Gengar. My Ghastly wishes to become a Gengar like yours one day. Any tips for a lesser trainer?"
Valder feels the social pressure of having done something wrong or too quickly, but hopes it's only a hunch gone wrong.
(All Gym leaders are named Zamboni, just like all nurses are named Nurse Joy?)
Chuckles bows to the lad. "I was never one for communicating or for going out of my way to help new trainers. But I have a small interest in other Ghost trainers, for we are few and we must have each other's backs. Firstly, I'm sure you know that a Haunter in captivity can only become a Gengar by being traded. It is exposure to the machine's radiation that does the trick, we think. So passing a Pokeball back and forth will not work. No one is sure why trade machines cause Gengar's evolution - that's not how they evolve in the wild. If anyone knows, it's Hayes, the Mistlord, one of the top dogs of the Pokemon League."
"Evolution is a difficult time for a Haunter or Gengar. Though these creatures thrive on what some might call negative emotions, they are not without insecurities of their own. Ventus discovered this today. As he is a renowned sociologist, I should not be surprised. To return to my point: even Ghost Pokemon can be scared, and they experience much anxiety when they realize they're being traded. For a Gengar, it's worse than any other trade evolution - they experience their bond with their trainer tangibly, not abstractly. Sort of a counterpart to how a Psychic type feels (and raising Alakazam is certainly a difficult experience too). Those who do not inspire loyalty in their Pokemon risk immense disobedience and resentment when Haunter evolves, though the pain of trading is not so severe in such a case."
"Gengar needs mischief. The League needs order. A good ghost trainer will always, always, always be thinking of ways to balance these two concerns. That is my best advice. And remember it's worth it - Gengar is the quintessential Ghost Pokemon."
The servant looks a bit shocked, though he tries to be professional. Perhaps this is the most Chuckles has said at one time in a long while.
Gastly gains 1 point of Loyalty and 1 point of Happiness from this excellent and rare advice.

Sailor Nightshade Round 3
"Charmander, show Shiva your Ember! On the flier, please." A crew member stands by with a cask of water, should any Pokemon be too hurt by the fiery attack.
Ember on Raphael
2 Dex +3 Fight + 2 canalize -2 actions = 5 dice
(2)(6)(3)(5)(5) Hit
6** Str + 2 power +1 STAB -2 vit = 7 dice
(6)(5)(6)(3)(5)(1)(2) Togekiss takes 4 damage! 3/7hp, right? -2 pain.
Chance: (4)
Sweet Kiss
Down to 2 dice after pain.
(5)(6) Charmander is confused!
![[Image: 12661a150867fb92296b7b3fffe91466.png]](https://i.gyazo.com/12661a150867fb92296b7b3fffe91466.png)
Entrainment
(5)(6)(6)(6)
Charmander acquires Minus! He looks nonplussed.
"Cherrim, if you win this battle, you'll soon learn Solar Beam! For now, stick with Magical Leaf, 'cause it is unerring! That way you can be very careful not to faint the poor rodent."
Magical Leaf on Minun
4 dice with only one action, -2 pain = 2 dice
(2)(5) Hit
(6)(3)(2) Togekiss takes 1 dmg 2/7hp. Better than a Pokemon being removed from the fight!
Hm, can Magical Leaf be covered? It says it can be evaded, so it can probably be blocked.
The leaf hits Togekiss where he perches over Minun. Instead of swerving, it acts like a heat-seeking missile that has found a target, and simply slices into Togekiss and falls unmoving to the ground.
Ember 2 on Raphael , holding back
(6)(1)(6)(3)
2 dice less damage now.
(4)(3)(4)(6)(3) Raphael is out of the fight with 1hp.
Solar Power
Hm, does this get replaced? Or does Charmander still take damage from it? Probably replaced. If Poison Heal was replaced and someone had a Toxic Orb, i would expect them to take the damage at the end, so that settles it! Charmander takes no damage from his powered-up attack.
Sailor Nightshade Round 4
Shiva will need clever strategy to get out of this one! Charmander has the honor of the first attack. Minun is looking tired. But Charmander has lost his ability (and is confused) and Cherrim would go down to one good hit, further reducing Charmander's effectiveness. Victreebel waits in the wings, along with one other Pokemon. This is Shiva's last Pokemon to send out though, unless she can bargain to use all 6! (which, as a guest, maybe she could swing?)

(A Togekiss has a base HP of 5, so with my Vit of 4, it would technically have 9/9 HP Max, and 6/9 HP after that first burn. Unless you want to use Shiva's Vit to calculate the damage, in which case that is fine!)

Yep, Raphael has Shiva's endurance at the moment. Ventus knows ways to give encouragement that keeps Raphael going much longer than Shiva can.

After cleaning Corsage's windows one last time with Ariel (And thankfully not being squirted by her) and returning the Slowpoke without any overt difficulty, Ventus made his way to the Pokémon Center. When he arrived, he gave his Pokeballs for the nurse on hand to fully restore their condition, before sitting down at the group's usual table in the lobby, awaiting them all before they departed town.

Sailor Nightshade Round 4
Okay, the battle rather quickly became serious. Very serious... Practically speaking, a challenge. It felt good, yet a little weird how it all awoke the spirits that has been numbed before. Hwat worried her a little was how Ventus would react if he'd get his Togekiss back in the current state... Hehe. Damn. You messed up, my dear.
The audience demanded a show. Well, they'll get a show. This was way better than an Contest Battle Shiva has seen in the media, mostly because this was real!
First thing to do was to call Raphael to her side. Archangel received some appreciating strokes over his cheek as he was allowed to rest there by her side, free from any damage. Next up, was tunring to Nightshade directly... Shiva waved towards the crowd that has gathered around their battlefield by now. "Hehe... Quite an audience, is it? They demand more. They demand the battle to go on. I have three fresh Pokemon on hand, ready for battle - an Espurr, a Cottonee and a Fennekin. Your side has Victreebell and one additional fresh Pokemon... How about a deal? We keep on with the battle until a victory crystallised. It's a friendly challenge... You said we have to be tough if we wish to surpass men... Something both of us desire. See it as a Trial... None of our Pokemon will faint. They grow with this challenge. They grow...alongside up. Deal?" (It's indeed a deal according to confirmation in Meta Thread! Thanks a lot for this.)
So be it then. Replacement for Raphael shall be something almost as magical - Fennekin. How delighted the fox was over the thought to battle in the warm sun! "Fennekin... This is serious. I've spend a little too much time to inflict Status conditions and debuffs, now we need to fire with full force. Show me an Ember, and let your internat fire burn. Show the audience that you're magic." ... "You Minun... hang in there. You're performance's not over yet - electrify the fierly lizard."
Orders for this round: Fennekin will begin with Ember, until Cherrim is down. If the cherry is down by the first Ember, nevertheless fire an Ember on Charmander - it deals more damage than a Psybeam. Minun will Nuzzle Charmader.
Effect: Okay, I learned the hard way that inflicting too many debuffs isn't really a good idea!
Secondary Effect: Hope the crowd enjoys the battle. I'm putting hop that Charmanderfails his Insight-check on confusion.
Pain Penalization: 0 on Fennekin, -2 on Minun.
Accuracy Roll Nuzzle on Charmander: 3 Dext + 2 Fight + 2 Allure - 2 Pain = 5 D6, looks good
Damage Roll: 2 Strength + 1 Power of move + 1 STAB = 4 D6
Additional notes: Inflicts autoparalysis = -2 Dext.
Accuracy Roll Ember on Cherrim: 3 Dext + 2 Fight + 2 Channel - 2 Action = 5 D6
Damage Roll: 2 Strength + 2 Power of move + 1 STAB + 1 thanks to the bright sun = 6 D6+1 autodamage due to SE
Additional notes: 1 CD to inflict Burn1.
Accuracy Roll Ember on Charmander 3 Dext + 2 Fight + 2 Channel - 3 Action = 4 D6
Damage Roll: 2 Strength + 2 Power of move + 1 STAB + 1 thanks to the bright sun = 6 D6 -1 autodamage due to SE
Additional notes: Charmander is immune to a burn.

Nathan had headed straight back to the Center after the gym battle. He needed to heal Porygon2 still, after all. And he felt like punching something, too, so the training dummies there would do just fine. His pokemon could get some good training in too.
After dropping Porygon2 off to heal, Nathan spends the time after the gym battle doing a little venting (Brawl increases to 2 for 6 exp!). Grid seemed oddly enthusiastic about joining in, as well, actually...(learning Fury Cutter for 12 exp after the training exp!)
Swiftfire was training too, as was Kirlia, each focusing on improving their elemental attacks.
A few hours of hard training later, Nathan's tired himself out sufficiently to focus on other stuff. Ventus was probably back by now. They'd need to wait for Shiva and Valder as well and discuss their next move now that all their business in Corsage was done...though he didn't really want to leave today. Some well earned R&R was in order a far as he was concerned...
