My main conditions are that we each get the same number of Pokemon and that I'm not telling you my catches."

Ventus thought over the condition of the fight for a moment, before he smiled to the fisher and gave a nod of his head. "Those terms are more than acceptable then. Since you have 3 Pokemon on your person, how about a 3v3 Single battle between the both of us, with free substitutions/switches at both our discreation and no fainting? I'm willing to put up $1000 for this battle, or offer $200 Poke, 2 Pokeballs, and 2 Potions as salvage; which ever offer is more preferable for you. What do you say?"
(My first choice in this battle will be Apsis, so you can get start on rolling Initiative if they (He or she?) agrees to his offer/terms!)

He prefers cash, and he has enough to cover that bet.
(We'll see what encounters Nathan wants though).

...Something was wrong with her magical fox. Shiva just did not know what exactly. He was upset from the moment Ventus tried to take that shiny rock Braixen showed them at the den, and it only increased as the Sociologist was left alone at the Power Spot. Actually, and especially after Ven's words that he'd appreciate a warning before visiting similar places, it wasn't that hard to connect things. Something must have happened there at the den. Maybe...summoning Apsis, a toxic snake with a bad reputation, filled the usual peaceful place with dread and negativity, and the idea to have her even hunting in the area caused a Hypno, Guard of the place, to step in? That's explain things, even if not directly why Braixen seemed to sad and what's with the red leaf he carried. Was he just sad to leave the place? Was he unhappy with Shiva as his Master? Both unlikely. Whatelse could it be...? She could ask Ventus directly whether he and his empathic skills could help her to find out, but somewhat she felt that if she'd bring Ven and the magical fox together now, it won't be very smart, if not counterproductive.
Shiva just strolled through the clearing she reunited with her fox, not really caring where she goes and that she looses track of the others. She was lost in thought, not only because Braixen. Now that she thought about, things were...alright. She was still taking both Vitamin D and St. John's Wort a pill each morning, even if it was just for placebo, but she was feeling more secure that way. Ven might protect her, he told leaving her alone discomforts him, but he cannot always be around, can he...? Helios was by far not yet ready to efficiently protect her when he wasn't.
Nope, she desired to get stronger. Both mentally - she may be mature in thought and mind, but that doesn't automatically mean 'strong' - and as a Master for her Pokemon, and the first step shall be the Gym in Ginger Town.
At some point, she came across what seemed to be a small flower field (no, not that type of flower field full of bad Fairies) and began to randomly pick up wildflowers growing here to keep herself busy. Just as she bended down to pick up a daisy, her gaze fell on a...pair of purplish ears appeared next to the flower. Before she could even notice what happened or even react, a juvenile Nidoran emerged from the grass, grabbing and eating up the daisy Shiva was justs about to pick up, BEFORE HISSING AT HER.
That was just too much for Shiva. Backing away a few steps in a sudden strike of terror, before triping and falling down backwards - which brought her on almost eye level with the Nidoran - she lost all the wildflowers she collected so far, and wasn't sure what to do. It was a female Nidoran. It stared at her with half-closed eyes, like if this human was an intruder. Like if it would and could bite her every moment and poison her or inflict venomous wounds that refuse to heal.
... Wait, she had something to prevent that from happening. And immediately, both Helios and Kyuu were summoned onto the flower field, standing not between Shiva and that oh-so-fearsome female Nidoran.
(Time for Initaitives, please!)

Nathan is REALLY freaked out by that vision. After about a week of not seeing anything related to that Absol, that vision's suddennes and rather extreme reveal scares him beyond belief. There's only one thing it can mean...
Absol was coming.
Something disastrous was going to happen.
And he has no idea if that absol is going to be the harbinger or the hero...
He hugs Kirlia out of sheer worry. They'd get through this...they were going to be okay...they'd be prepared for the feline when it showed up...
It takes them both awhile to calm down after that vision. On the way out of town, Nathan's nervously looking around again...he was about ready to just book it, leave Wineberry and the Scimitars and the place where he'd all but burned his relation with Shiva to the basic foundations behind...the only reason he doesn't is because he's using a lot of his willpower to hold himself together and proceed in the most logical way he can. And that means staying with the group.
He's pretty quick to busy himself with a battle. Or rather, he would have, if Shield Maiden Valerie wasn't the one who noticed him first...wonder how a League official will react to an incredibly nervous looking trainer on route 02?

Your eyes meet - one pair stoic, the eyes of a warrior (even if the title is largely symbolic these days). The other pair nervous and trembling. Despite the differences in attitude, there's no denying that spark of battlelust between two trainers.
When she spots Nathan, the League official's Pokeball rises from her belt to her hand automatically, affixed to a tiny steel device. Her hand closes around the ball, but she releases it when she's had a closer look. It still hangs there, ready to be snatched at a moment's notice.
"Young trainer! Oh, young trainer! Hello. I'm Valerie, Shield Maiden of the Pokemon League. May I ask where you're journeying to? And how is that journey going? Remember!! The League is here to help!!"

Kyuu: (6) + 5 = 11
NidoranF: (3) + 1 dex + 3 survival = 7
Helios: (1) +5 = 6
Nidoran displays no fear as she chews on that flower. She even turns her head away for a second to lick up some dropped petals. Then she puts on a display for Shiva, waving her venomous ears and lowering her horn to point at the psychics.
Perhaps she is not familiar with psychic types, as they are pretty rare.

Edit Reason: it's Kingler, not Krabby
)
Fisherman Matrim sends out Kingler. "I keep this Pokemon around just for double battles. He's pretty badass, though. And he'll be even more so when he learns Guillotine - maybe one or two more battles might do the trick?"
Apsis: (3) + 5 = 8
Kingler: (2) + 3 Dex + 1 Survival = 6

A long sticky tongue descends from a tree and nabs Froakie. Up into the canopy he goes! If you squint, you can just make out a rare Kecleon up there.
Kecleon: (4) + 1 Dex + 5 survival = 10
Valder's Pokemon: (1)
Will Froakie battle to save himself? Or will he be the damsel in distress, to be saved by heroic Theo or Gastly?

Alright. Alright. While Shiva has been panting and horrified until now, not only because it was a Nidoran, but also because it pretty much startled her. That Nidoran seemed to be all chill. It seemed to be more wary of the Pokemon she summoned than to her.
...They're with her. In theory, her Psychics shall protect her from exactly such situations, right? Was this a beta-test? Likely. It's just a Nidoran, nothing more. A blasted Nidoran that will eventually become a venomous Queen.
Still, Shiva tried very hard not to loose it and sound confident to her Pokemon. If she shows fear, they will too, and end up being poisoned... "Okay. I'm...counting on you two... Kyuu, please stop staring at your Apricorn nut for now and show some of your psychic powers to the enemy, take care not to get close to them! As for you, Helios, please look close how your battle partner channels his psychic powers into an attack, THIS is what I wish to accompany with you. Evade any assaults, you can do so even without not yet fully able to use the move we are training."
Orders for this round: Espurr will use a single Confusion until Nidoran is down (hoping for crits!), while Abra watches how the move is used and evades. IF his battle partner gets poisoned, he'll punish that with Strike.
Effect: Poison shall feel the might of Psychics.
Secondary Effect: Seeing her Pokemon fight for her will likely calm her from the startle.
Accuracy Roll Confusion: 3 Dext + 2 Fight + 2 Channel = 7 D6
Damage Roll: 2 Strength + 2 Power of move + 1 STAB = 5 D6 + 1 autodamage due to SE
Additional notes: 1 CD to confuse the foe.
Evasion: 3 Dext + 2 Fight + 0 Evasion = 5 D6
Possible Accuracy Roll Strike: 3 Dext + 2 Fight + 0 Brawl = 5 D6
Possible Damage Roll Strike: 2 Strength + 1 Power of move = 3 D6
If Nidoran fainted, the Encounter is not over. If there is one thing Ventus showed, then that trading away Pokemon can be quite benefitial (even if it's just an ordinary female Nidoran in this case) - Shiva will catch it in a regular Pokeball (Seal Strength 2). This also ensures that it won't pester her again anytime.
