The researcher was extremely relieved at the fisherman's clarifying the details about his pseudo dragon Pokémon, and his worried agitation slowly faded away as he took a deep calming breath, before he released it and gave them a nod of his head. "That is most excellent news to hear, both my own sake and Michael's. I stand more than a strong chance of being defeated by you at presently, but I might as well see this fight through to the end so that both our Pokémon can gain some experience. Besides, it would be rude to leave Gyarados themselves hanging if I just forfeited and denied them a truly rousing fight for them, hmm?" Ventus said, before he turned his attention back to his fighting shroom as they bobbed and weaved throughout the coils of the draconic beast, draining what little life force he could while it torn into him with frigid bites.

Eventually, though, the Gyarados prevailed in the their long struggle, forcing Michael to putter back to his side and continue doing around him instead! He may have been defeated by the overgrow carp fish, but he gave them one heck of a time throughout their whole fight! ' Oh my, my brother's competitive spirit and Poison Heal ability makes them a mighty hearty mushroom indeed! At the very least, Michael has survived a tango with the Atrocious Pokémon, something very few other Pokémon can claim, so this is a delightful outcome for the both of us,' Ventus thought, chuckling and shaking his head at his shroom's antic, but leaving them out for the time being. His Poison Heal would help restore their damage much faster outside their Pokeball than in it, and they needed to work off that energy before they get into any mischief! Thinking what could optimally cause the most trouble for that fisherman's Gyarados and give him the edge that his REQUIRES in order to win this fight, an idea came to the researcher in a flash, and it almost caused him to cringe a bit. It was risky as Kyurem's Frosty Domain, and could have rather deleterious consequences in the long run, but if he wants to have even a sliver of a chance to win....

Eventually, Ven let out a tired sigh, before they flicked out their wrist once more, and in a burst of like Raphael appeared on the battlefield! They got one good look at the beast, eyes widening at just what they were going to face, and turned around to give their master a disbelieving look. Relations between them might be...tense, but they didn't think their master/father would be THIS unhinged if he was sending them against a GYARADOS! The empath was quick to pick up on the huge quantities of stress coming from his beloved archangel, and let out anoth weary sigh, before they calmly spoke out to them, attempting to calm them down and get their mind on the battle. "Raphael, I know things are not the brightest between us right now, but I am in no way punishing you for that incident. I need your help to win this fight, so muster all your Will and stand firm against this powerful beast! Use Sweet Kiss on them first, and make absolutely sure it hits on them, and follow it up with Charm and Yawn. If we can't power through it bulk and power traditionally, we have to play a bit underhanded now. Do your very best, my archangel!"

Order: Raphael will use Sweet Kiss first on Gyarados (Using ANOTHER Will Point, leaving me with just one), and I'm leveling up Allure to 2 (6 XP) so that it will have no chance to fail hitting them. Then it will use Charm to lower the potential amount of Damage it can do to either them or Apsis, and then Yawn to put it to sleep for at least a little while. I hope this works!

Moves:

Sweet Kiss
Accuracy: DEX (2) + Fight (3) + Allure (2) - 3 Accuracy - 3 Actions + 1 Will Point = 1 Dice + 1 Will Point (Basically, I can't miss this attack!)
Effect: Inflict Confusion on the target

Charm
Accuracy: 8D6 Dice - 4 Actions = 4D6 Dice
Effect: Lower STR of target by 2

Yawn
Accuracy: DEX (2) + Fight (3) + Channel (3) - 5 Actions = 3D6 Dice
Effect: Target falls Asleep after 1 Round of Combat

The Shield Maiden looks around and spots a dead tree. "Scizor!" Scizor appears in a flash of Pokeball light. "Slice this tree into stumps for us to sit on, and make us some wood for a campfire. Then you can go for a joyflight if you wish."

That done, she takes a seat on the stump and lights a cheery fire even though it's daylight. She pulls out some taters and veggies and wraps them in foil to go on the coals. "Help yourself when they're done."

"Yeah, I'm aware she'll be quite a bit tougher later, though it could take awhile yet...grew up on a Ponyta Ranch, after all.  THE Ponyta Ranch, in fact: Warren Ranch.  Never ceases to amaze me how well my mom's done with the business...I kinda hope I can help Swiftfire become at least as strong as Bo's Rapidash someday..."

"I've not heard of it, but that doesn't mean much. I spend much of my time up at the Mountain. Having met Bo once, I can tell you what he'd tell you: being able to bond with your Pokemon, to understand them, and to shepherd them to greatness, is the greatest feeling and the greatest strategy to raising phenomenal fighters. Well, he'd probably put it in simpler terms. He has a way with words. "

Fisherman Matrim's Gyarados Round 3

Raphael chirps, believing your words.

Sweet Kiss
(4) + (6*)
Gyarados became confused!

"This is it, Gyarados! Time to show them the power of a Dragon! Hyper Beam, and be juuust a little careful!"

Hyper Beam
9 dice, -1 pain, -1 accuracy, -3 actions = 4 dice
(1)(2)(3)(5) It's a hit.
3 Str + 6 power -4 vit = 5 dice
(5)(3)(2)(4)(5) Raphael takes 3 dmg 6/9hp -1 pain.

Raphael turns to look at his master, fluttering in the air, as if to say "You want me to fight THIS??" But Raphael is not one to back down from a fight, and he can tell Gyarados is recharging. The bold fish's eyes are curled to mere slits. The air between it and Raphael is crackling.

"Ha! Bet that's the first time you've ever seen THAT attack! Oh yeah!"

Raphael just took that attack like it was a normal move! "I am very impressed with your Toge's stamina!"

Charm
(1)(1)(4) Unfortunately, the Eyes of Apsis strike! I guess Raphael is not cute enough for this monstrosity.

Gyarados recharges

Yawn
(6)(6) 2 successes
"That's a Yawn attack! You know what to do with status moves." The fisherman is yawning a bit himself.
Evasion: 3 Dex + 4 fight + 1 evasion -1 pain -5 actions = 2 dice
(6)(1)

"Ohh...Gyarados, I told you not to...oh crap."

Fisherman Matrim's Gyarados Round 4

Gyarados will fall asleep.

A small sigh.  "Well, that's not surprising, I suppose.  Trillium's a rather small place at the end of the day, after all.  Though Professor Mallorn is a big fan of my mom's horses.  Bo's Rapidash even originated from there from what my mom's told me about that transaction, so you can probably imagine that my goal for Swiftfire is...quite lofty...I'm trying my best to bond with and train my friends...just hope I'm doing a good job with it...'"

He's done brushing Swiftfire now. Swiftfire's been rather still, surprisingly...usually, she bolts after he's done brushing her if he doesn't recall her...odd..."You doing okay, girl?"

Fisherman Matrim's Gyarados Round 4

Gyarados will fall asleep.

"....You would be correct, my fellow angler, though such power comes at a severe price. Namely, Hyper Beam has a recharge time associated with its usage, which puts most veteran and competitive trainer off from using the move, among the fact that its extremely deadly even when its power is restrained. Now that your Gyarados had it moment of glory, time for my archangel to have their own! Raphael, take this *Ventus uses one of his 3 Potions on them, maxing out their HP!* and show them your graceful majesty in battle with non-Lethal Sky Attack after Sky Attack! If the beast wakes up, either naturally or from the fisherman using an item, give them a round of applause for their might effort, use Yawn on them once more, and show them just how Charming you really can be! Remain tough, stay strong, and survive its wrath, Raphael!"

Order: Raphael will use one Sky Attack and one Air Slash per round (If possible, otherwise just 1) after a Potion has been applied to them in order to wear that Gyarados down QUICKLY. If it wakes up from any means AT ALL, though, it will use either use Encore at the start of the round they wake up to lock them into Hyper Beam, use Yawn once more to put it back to sleep, THEN Charm to tank its potential damage output drastically. If the fisherman uses an Item to wake them up, though, then Encore will be used right away instead of an Sky Attack/Air Slash, they will use Yawn again, and then Charm before moving on to the next round (Pause).

Moves:

So long as Gyarados Remains Asleep:

Sky Attack
Accuracy: DEX (2) + Fight (3) + Channel (3) - 1 Accuracy - 3/4 Actions (One for Charging, and the other to use the move instantly in the same round!) = 3D6 Dice for hit chance
Damage: STR (*1) + 6 + STAB - Vitality (3) = 5D6 Damage
Effect: *Flitched 5* (Due to Serene Grace) , High Critical

Air Slash
Accuracy: 8D6 - 5 Dice = 3D6 Dice
Damage: STR (*1) + 3 + STAB - Vitality (3) = 2D6 Damage
Effect: *Flitch 5* (Due to Serene Grace)

If Gyarados Wakes up....:

Encore
Accuracy: DEX (2) + Fight (3) + Allure (2) - 3 Actions = 4D6
Effect: Forces target to repeat its last sequence of actions in a round for 4 Rounds; In this case, Gyarados only uses Hyper Beam once per round for 4 Rounds!

Yawn
Accuracy: 8D6 - 4 Actions = 4D6
Effect: Known.

Charm
Accuracy: 7D6 - 5 Actions = 2D6
Effect: - 2 STR

"Maybe, but even when she's tired, she's usually on the move.  Ah well...here, I've got something for ya, girl.  Maybe this'll be a good pick-me-up.  I really do appreciate the effort you're putting in, even if you have gotten beaten a few times when you probably shouldn't have been."  Nathan gives her some Gourmet Food to munch on.  Hopefully it's a sufficient way to show his thanks...

Well...a sensitive topic, but not a surprising question...Nathan felt he could trust Valerie with a little of the story. "Found him as a Ralts in the forests at the base of Mt. Molten.  He...wasn't in the best condition.  And yes, I know they don't live anywhere near Trillium. I still don't really know what the heck he was doing there..."
