Hmmm...there's 5 of us, so is Nathan going to be rooming with Valder since nobody else will? Or is he gonna be stuck with some random person he may or may not like?

No, bunk style means it's a big room with a whole collection of random people in it. Some of them are gender segregated but other than that, it's random.
