[Meta thread] Iron's PokeRole Adventure: The Skull Ruins
On the note of Detect since I haven't commented on that yet:

I like the change.  Brings it more in line with how it works in the games, as the book never actually says it negates the effects of damaging moves, just the effects of support moves.  Of course, even with that buff in place, getting hit by moves with a 100% chance of inflicting their effect is probably still going to result in taking that effect on the chin (like getting hit with Acid Spray, maybe).

Protect and Detect are also a lot stronger than most other Shield moves since they're the big complete protection moves.  Though Wide Guard gets a special mention due to basically being a Protect/Detect for the whole party in pokerole (minus all ability to block support moves). That's one of Gallade's missing moves from OR/AS that I would absolutely love to have access to if possible.

I think Aspis's battle is an excellent showing of why I think Arbok is one of the most dangerous non-plot device pokemon in pokerole, period.  Wide coverage, quite a large amount of debuffing available, huge amount of HP, uncommon at worst pre-evo that's not overly difficult to evolve...

Why do you think I decided to keep her in the end, instead of trading them away in Ginger Town? Glare is awesome in of itself, Leer debuffs EVERYTHING, Acid Spray is basically Intimidate + Damage, Wrap is continual damage + Trapping, plenty of coverage from all her Bite attacks, which all give her the ability to Flitch, Burn AND Freeze her targets, along with Poison Sting to further wear them down with Poison Damage! Combined with the Necklace of Serenity and her Bulk, and there is no end to fun when facing off against  Ven's giant snake, hehehe!

Now, all she has to do is endure long enough to get a good hit against Flareon....

I still somewhat dislike the species and will likely never be much interested in playing with it. *shrugs* To each their own?

Well, there is ONE other species I might be worried about facing more than an Arbok...and that's a Steelix.  Not as many debuffing options, but has the 3rd highest HP in the game on top of Arbok's other advantages...blegh...

Snakes are way too bulky in this game due to that size bias for determining base HP, yo.

Not going to complain about the bais, since it ends up helping me out in Apsis and Haneal/Lucifer (In the future) case and is interesting to work around in general. If you can't simply wear away at a Bulky target with regular damage, find creative methods of doing so!

I don't really have a problem with the method.  It's mostly with regard to the snakes and serpents specifically, since they all have vastly more HP than anything else unless the critters that outdo them are ridiculously huge (Steelix is both...blegh.  Noivern actually has a fairly standard HP value, since 5 is what most fully evolved pokemon have).  And it resulted in Dragonite being the sole pokemon in the book whose HP goes down when it evolves (Shedinja exempt, obviously).  If the scaling were a little bit less skewed, it wouldn't be as readily apparent an issue.  (Though considering how you're making your bosses in the Celadon campaign, I'm certainly not complaining about having super buff pokemon there at ALL.  Kinda necessary, really...)

Doesn't seem to be working too well for Flareon at the moment, though.  Fighting those bulky beasts by yourself with only 1 or 2 pokemon at a time is brutally difficult.  No burn, hasn't been getting lucky with Fire Spin...oh yeah, that reminds me.  Intimidate and Shed Skin only compound the number of issues with fighting an Arbok, since it's either harder to take down or can't be debuffed and neutralized reliably (which is far worse than Intimidate imo)...blegh.

Oh ho ho! So our special guest is Sheldon, is he? Interesting...wonder if/how long it will take Nathan to recognize him, given his active involvement in fighting the Nuclear pokemon on Tandor's Route 11 1.5 years ago...

He decides to go to the library and get some ancient information. Perhaps anything about ancient history and about what might be inside the Skull Ruins or about anything that king Saminarok.

Action: Go to the library and get information and books about King Saminarok, the Skull Ruins, and anything about the Ancient history about the city.

Well, you're bound to find a LOT of information on that pretty easily...though I will drop a reminder that Nathan did tell Heart that he's a history buff.  Nathan knows a LOT of stuff.  And he's also the only semi-chatty Creshire native in the party, too.

Hehehe, Firestone couldn't burn down the Stone Wall that is Apsis! Nice!

Well, that a unexpected yet lovely little Tandorian surprise right there! I guess I'll visit the Gym latter after all, if one of my favorite Gym Leaders in Uranium is hanging out with his fully tricked out Steel team! Might also head to the library to do some of my own investigations on Cheshire and its inhabitants as a whole, though I'll leave the lore/history hunting to you and your chara, Dragonstrike! For now, though, I'll patiently wait for Phantom to finish her battle, before we move on to the shelter!

Oh, and its it still possible to auto buy Items without visiting the Department Store? I want to buy 2 Potions, 1 Super Potion, 2 Pokeballs, for $1500 Poke without taking going their right now, as I need to replenish my healing Item and Pokeball supply AND continue to have a fun little romp with Shiva/Phantom!
