Well, DPS is the name of the game, and it's what I'm aiming for Nathan to fill in the team. Ventus would still give Nathan a LOT of trouble in combat, though, since he can actually stand up to Nathan's DPS somewhat well, giving him plenty of time to cripple Nathan's pokemon in a variety of ways. Aspis in particular would be...unforgiving, likely taking 2 or 3 of Nathan's pokemon to take down if she isn't crippled by quite a lot.
But yeah, variety in how Nathan can use his DPS is why he's so hard to beat. He can cripple your Dex massively with Grid and exploit his own high dex to nuke ya with Electro Ball (or just go for a huge damage burst with Fury Cutter. Or hit ya with Screech to up his damage). Brute force his way through with Super Luck Night Slashes from Calam. Also brute force his way through using innate strength boosts from Download and Rivalry without needing to set up anything, and causing even more trouble if he DOES set up with Porygon-Z. Put ya to sleep with Kirlia (eventually, that'll happen), then nuke ya with Dream Eater, all while recovering HP (and Draining Kiss and Drain Punch will be there for those nasty pokemon that resist Psychic). He burns through your HP with Swiftfire in a variety of ways, all while maintaining decent damage. Starmie doesn't need to set up, what with having a mystic water boosted Bubble Beam/Hydro Pump and eventually also a Psywave with a flat 8 dice in its damage pool (high defense doesn't work against fixed damage, and 8 damage dice is a LOT), and both it and Porygon-Z have access to Recover as well to prolong their stay on the battlefield.
And with that high initiative boost he gets from his Dex and Survival, he usually has the turn advantage, too, which allows him to set up what he needs to almost unhindered and cripple opponents with the first blows. Castform and Ditto might add an interesting dynamic to Nathan's team as well, tbh...particularly since Mimic can potentially copy Transform

High dice pools and stuff are nice and well, but I still prefer to rely on mischief, trickery and outplaying of present advantages when it comes to battle for my chara. She may never be that strong in battle like the others, but she'll be better, harder to beat and generally more various once her Pokemon grow a little more. To each their own?
I battle enough in the official games, so I actually enjoy doing other things in PokeRole. Battles are nice and cool, but they're not everything!

Glass cannon/DPS for sure. Ventus is tank. Shiva is lifesteal. Heart I don't know yet. Maybe with his team of rare Pokemon he will be an everyman. Valder is the bruiser when he's around.
Then you have out-of-combat situations.

Another thing about Shiva is that some of her Pokemon are/were limited in evolution due to fancy requirements or plot concerns.

Mostly, 'are', and while this may indeed soft-limit me, I actually enjoy how I can actively do something/rp to make progress on their evolution. For example, I'd like to to try something with Braixen once he obtains a little more XP and I can kick off a Training Session. It also matches her trait to origin from a Breeder familiy?

Your just give me more reasons why I shouldn't fight Nathan unless I deliberately go out of my way to max out DEX and Survival to counter act that DEX boost you have, which is frankly something I shouldn't have to consider in the first place. That's one aspect I don't like about Pokerole: the Initiative. I kinda wish it was entirely independent of DEX entirely, so that having high DEX means you have more Accuracy in all your moves/other benefits, but can't be used it towards bottlenecking the opponent in terms of setting up and damage. Either that, or have some sort of cap that determines how much DEX can be added to initiative, like only up to 3 points in DEX can be added, or on a per fight basis. Anything to reduce the effectiveness of DEX as a Attribute and elevate the others would be a nice change, imo, since it would allow more freedom to play with and against opponents with different builds in mind.
If I was dumb enough to fight Nathan without playing like a total asshole (Spore spamming, Encore Spamming, Poison Fang Spamming, Ice Fang Spamming, etc..), I'd probably have Ventus stipulate Non-HP healing Items be allowed in fights, then have him use Guard Specs and have at least 3 each of Status healing Items to counter any ailments/status drops that proc on his Pokémon, and heavily research his team before hand to take away the element of surprise (If you'd wanted to try and switch right before battle, he'll ask what Pokémon you have before hand, and refuse to fight subsequently). He'd also stipulate no Lethal moves of any kind regardless of holding back or not, and I would also idealy have Taunt or a phasing move to disrupt Stat boosts on several Pokémon. That is the BARE MINIMUM I would fight against you unless DEX was removed from Initiative rolls entirely, or heavily nerfed in my favor. It would also be 1v1 battles, as I don't like being ganged up on or Spread moves unless I have one on each of my Pokémon.
If it isn't obvious, I don't want to fight against Nathan unless he's at a severe disadvantage with his given Attributes, or I have ways to level the playing field to nullify his higher DEX/Initiative. The though alone is a buzzkill...

That sounds WAY too effortful and costy related to how the battle wouldn't probably be fun at all and how many XP one would get that could better be collected elsewhere. o.o

Entirely correct, my lovely and intelligent mi amore! *Gives them a snuggle* The way Dragonstrike has opted to go with his character make it entirely unappealing to fight against Nathan without equally heavy firepower or being able to throw enough hinderances on him to weigh them down in a fight. Seeing as Ventus is a Tank and Crippler and Shiva is a Variety Crippler/Just Plain Mischevous , we are just plainly not cut out to fight against him right now unless, like I said, we deliberately go out of our way to prepare for the fight or rework our characters from this point onwards. Blegh....

I definitely don't want to rework my character just to fight one particular person.
