[Game thread] Skull Ruins Pokerole

Gym Leader Dagny vs Nathan Round 1

Howl 1
(3)(6)(5)(1)
+1 Str

Sandstorm 1
2 Dex + 2 Survival + 2 Nature -3 actions = 3d6
(6)(2)(2)
A sandstorm brewed! You can see Excadrill breathing faster!

Flamethrower 2
(5)(1)(2)(6)(2)(1) Excadrill blocks the Flamethrower with both claws crossed, but a little fire gets him.
(2)(6)(1) Excadrill takes 2 dmg 7/9hp -1 pain
Burn: (6) Excadrill is Burn 2, very lucky.

"Nathan is speedy, but he won't be able to dodge this!"

Earthquake 2
2 Dex + 4 Fight +3 canalize -4 actions -1 pain = 4d6
(6)(3)(1)(6)
4* Str + 4 power +1 STAB -3 vit = 6d6+1
(5)(4)(6)(5)(2)(5) Orthros takes 6 dmg. He eats his Sitrus berry, so it's like he takes 3 dmg. 5/8hp -1 pain.
The gym is rocked by the Excadrill's mighty pound. Excadrill goes tearing along in its wake, piercing Orthros most effectively.
Even the trainer areas rock. Dagny floats a little off the ground to avoid her own attack.

Flamethrower 3
(6)(4)(1)(4)
(5)(6)(1) Excadrill takes 3 dmg and also eats a Sitrus Berry as it retreats underground. Back up to 7/9hp -1 pain.

Earthquake 3
(2)(3)(6)
(6)(2)(4)(4)(1)(3) Orthros takes 4 dmg as he's buried up to his neck in suffocating sand and construction materials. He has 1/8hp left!

"Interesting! Most trainers lead with a Fire type against me. And most of them are KO'd by the first or second Earthquake! You're ahead of the game!"

Burn: Vit-4: (2) Excadrill takes 2 dmg 5/9hp -1 pain

Orthros: 1 HP left, ate his Sitrus Berry.
Excadrill: 5/9 HP, 2 Lethal damage, Burn 2, also ate his sitrus berry.

Nathan has always found it amusing how powerful the 2 foot tall mole pokemon can be.  One of the most feared non-legendary pokemon from Unova, and it's less than half the height of an average human.  Heh.  This battle certainly helped showcase why that is, though...

Dagny has a defense as strong as steel as well, unsurprisingly.  This was gonna be tough to break.  It's a little like fighting Ventus...

...Nathan will find a way, though. Even the most sturdy defenses can be shattered if they're battered enough!

"Fire's one of my specialties.  Not the only type I like, though!  Starmie, take the stage!  Time for the waterworks!  Recover and strengthen yourself if you take 'em out!"

Hydro Pump!
Accuracy: 4 Dex + 3 Fight + 3 Canalize - 3/4 actions - 2 Accuracy = 5 D6
Damage: 5 Power + 3 Strength + STAB + MW - 5 Defense + SE = 5 D6 + 1 Damage

Bubble Beam x2
Accuracy: 10 base - 4/5 actions = 6/5 D6
Damage: 3 D6 + 1 Damage
Effect: -1 Dex (1)

Harden and Recover (If Starmie still has actions remaining after Excadrill is removed from the battle.  Recover first if Starmie has a -2 or -3 Pain Penalization, Harden first otherwise)

Harden
Accuracy: 4 Dex + 3 Survival + 0 Nature = 7 D6 base
Effect: +1 Defense

Recover
Accuracy: 10 base
Effect: Rolls half max HP in D6 (3 in this case), recovers HP equal to the number of successes

Dagny also makes a switch! Out comes a Probopass, twitching its mustache at Starmie.

Starmie: (1) + 7 = 8
Probopass: (2)+ 4 = 6

The Gym Floor shunts back into place with a "blam!" and a rather small pool of water opens up, surrounded by a little oasis of sand.
The Sandstorm is still whirling (Forgot to add that against Orthros, guess you switched him out in time).
All told the aquatic area is about knee high on Starmie and of similar diameter.

A Probopass.  A strong wall (so long as you aren't hitting its biggest weaknesses, that is) with some slight electricity manipulation ability.  Nathan gets a Paralyz Heal ready, just in case.

Slight change to the orders, then.  Hydro Pump, 3 times!  Bubble Beam instead of Hydro Pump if Starmie has a -2/-3 Pain Penalization.  Recover and Harden conditions remain the same.

Gym Leader Dagny vs Nathan Round 2

Hydro Pump 1
(5)(2)(4)(5)(1)
(3)(6)(5)(4)(2) Probopass takes 4 dmg 6/10hp -1 pain

"Probopass, slow down a bit, do it right. Zap Cannon! Let's bring this battle to our terms!" She zigs and zags a few inches in the air as she shouts commands.

The blast of electricity goes sparking through the humidified air.

Zap Cannon
9 dice, -5 accuracy, -1 pain = 3d6
(1)(2)(5)
3 Str + 5 power -3 vit = 5d6+1
(6)(3)(4)(4)(3) Starmie takes 4 dmg 3/7hp -2 pain
Starmie is paralyzed -2 dex.

Starmie and Nathan very cleverly switch to Bubblebeam after healing!

Bubblebeam 2
(3)(5)(6)(2) Starmie has no issue issuing enough water to burn away at Probopass.
(4)(6)(6) Probopass takes 4 dmg 2/10 hp -2 pain

Bubblebeam 3
(2)(4)(4)
(6)(2)(4) Probopass faints!

"Well done. Without being fully able to use the Electric type, Probopass is not a perfect counter to Water, even offensively. We each have one last Pokemon to reveal. Will you be switching?"

She has a Pokeball in hand.

(Nathan had a Paralyz Heal ready, Iron.  Could have phrased it better, I guess, but the intent was to use it immediately if Starmie got paralyzed.  Bubble Beam 3 could still hit)

You phrased it fine; I just forgot to look at your new instructions.

"Yup. Orthros, back on the field you go! Spectacular job, Starmie, as always!"

Orthros might be on his last legs, but he'll go down fighting!

Dagny sends out Magnezone. Its coat is a burnished gold! And in place of one of the forward magnets is a silvery rotating metal claw!

Let's see if it helps.

(4) +6* from quick claw. Just enough to beat Orthros.

Hmmm...alright, looks like this is getting interesting...

As soon as Nathan spots the Quick Claw, he can tell this Shiny Magnezone (fun fact, I actually own two that I chained one after the other in Platinum. Couldn't believe my eyes when the second one popped up immediately after the first!) is going to somehow get the drop on Orthros instead of vice versa.

The hound probably wouldn't stay standing for long. Nor would Starmie...

...he still has an advantage here, though.

"Orthros, do what you can! Try to obscure its vision!"

Smokescreen!
Accuracy: 10 base -3 pain - 2 actions = 5 D6

Flamethrower
Accuracy: 4 D6
Damage: 2 D6 + 1 Damage
Effect: Burn 2 (1)
