[Meta thread] Iron's PokeRole Adventure: The Skull Ruins
I'm trying to use that as a standard mechanic and even as an in-world explanation. It was actually one of the first rule changes I thought of!

I'd say most battlers worldwide consider status move as perfectly legitimate battle strategies. At the highest levels, items are often disallowed and status moves run amuck!

Spore, on the other hand... that's the kind of move that entire teams are built to avoid.

That, and now with Sticky Web all of Vald's Pokémon but Ghastly will be getting the DEX debuff. Ouch....

That frog could outspeed my entire team (if I'm really unlucky) and sweep with Torrent boosted Bubbles, so I'd say that T-Wave was definitely fair game.  *shudder*

I'm trying to limit how Valder can hit me because when he DOES hit...ouch.  Nathan's a Glass Cannon, but Valder is a Glass Missile Launcher.

And yeah I'm with Iron on the Spore thing.  Sleep and Freeze are easily THE most OP statuses in Pokerole.  There's just no reasonable way to deal with them aside from items because your opponent can hit you 6-10 times before you even have a chance to wake up/break free.  I'm not going to have Ralts use Hypnosis in this battle for that very reason. Well, unless Haunter uses it...

Really wish they had done it differently, but I'm not going to do any changes in my game. Too late for that, and I do like the roleplaying usage of being able to knock someone out for a time.

I probably made it slightly worse by allowing move spam.

Just a little bit.  Normal rules only allow for each move to be used once per round (with the exception of multi-action and rampage moves), which makes sense for balance purposes.

Though spam has its fun points, that's for sure Tongue

Since there's no limit on the amount of moves a Pokemon can learn, I figured most would have 5 unique attacking moves anyway. (Can only use 4 in a single League battle, though).

Oh, forgot about that 5 STR of Valder's. In that case, paralyze him QUICKLY, BEFORE HE BLASTS YOU TO SMITHERINS!

I completely agree with how ALL POWERFULL!!!! Spore is, but since I worked the better part of a couple of months or so on getting that dang move and Shroomish being underpowered for all that time, so I'm not going to limit my usage of that unless Michael is better of spamming SE moves/Facade, or their is a pre battle agreement not to use Sleep. Same deal with Encore too. Both are resources that make Ven's life easier and battles safer, so why not use them?

Of course, Iron could start making sure all his trainers have Safeguard/Grass Pokémon/Anti Sleep Tactics on his teams to counter the dreaded Spore, so their is that to balance things out. Or he could flat out just say it won't work for some reason if he doesn't want me to spam it. That too!

We'd just find other ways to exploit the gaming system and becoming powerful if move spam wasn't allowed, or prioritized quickly getting those Multi Hit and Rampage moves so that we'd have some form of it anyway, so I don't consider it a problem or boon.

Definitely fun, though!

The balancing factor of Spore is that very few can get it, and if you used Shroomish for every battle your other Pokemon would suffer.

Bit late for Paralysis, unfortunately.  But Grid has more than one way to decrease a foe's Dex!  Way more than one way!  IF he can take another hit, he can maybe take out Frogadier.  Kinda sad Grid got blasted outta the water on the initiative order, so he can't take advantage of his main gimmick as well as I would like him to, but eh.  I'll make do.

Which is fair enough, since it's what Mushroom pokemon (and Smeargle) do.  Though I definitely wouldn't be surprised if trainers that magically have ways to counter those tactics start showing up later on, that's for sure.

You know what's even MORE fun, though?

Theo has Defiant iirc.

Yes, I used Sticky Web, even knowing that ;P

I purposely want to see Valder abuse a 7 Strength Night Slash.  That's gonna be REAL fun to see! Wink
