[Meta thread] Iron's PokeRole Adventure: The Skull Ruins

Next time, please make sure to add Mechanics or Orders or such, or simply state clearly what you'd like from us, alright?

It will.  It's probably going to hurt when it does, but that's what the pain killers are gonna be for (they're even doctor's orders).  This was quite the trip to the dentist, so I've got quite a list of things to be doing as far as mouth care goes...

The mechanics/orders thing isn't really my style.  Feels kinda...jarring to me, tbh.  Like it interrupts the flow.  Attempting to state things more clearly is something that can be worked on, but no promises in the short term.

That's very fine, too (not adding something like orders or mechanics, I mean). It's something I silently learned from Dies Irae as well along the way, thought it was a good thing to state things clearly.

If something's unclear, I'll simply ask~

My brother and I used to draw each other collectible monster cards as presents. It's a step above macaroni artwork, at least!

I'd definitely say it is!

I could have Nathan just get it outright, but that defeats the purpose of what I'm trying to do.  The intent was always to share.

As I mentioned before, neither I or Ventus have any interest whatsoever in Training Cards or their inclusion/mechanics in the game, so Ven would have just outright bought it for Nathan if the told him it was their birthday, or decline on the principle of saving his money for Mr. Finder fee. The reason we are not interested is divided OOC and IC.

I'm not interested because I came here for the RPing/Battling/Adventuring with Pokémon, not to play a training card game. If I want to play the trading card scene, I would just find a simulator out their and play on it instead for a mostly pure experience, which sorta leads me to suggest why you guys don't just use that to play the Trading Card game and keep a record/roll for cards in game so they can be tied together? Seem easier to me than just creating a new system whole cloth, and most likely faster too since nothing has to be rolled out or carefully scripted.

For Ventus, he's just not that into card games or game in general besides board ones, Table Top RPGs, and PC Gaming , all of which are pretty hard to do while in the middle of traveling/rescuing/researching a region. He also doesn't see the appeal of Pokémon Trading Card games, as to him the first question he has about it is: why bother spending hundred/thousands of Poke to build a deck and play make believe/gamble with them, when a Poke Balls cost only upwards to $1200 and $200 minimum, and can capture you a real life Pokémon and do all sorts of neat things with them? That, after seeing the card costs he think they are WAY overpriced for what they are, and believe that the stated price should be a 10th or less given the niche appeal and obscurity of the game, and that includes Morisugi's quality cards. The clerk's sass and the image of the store also didn't do him any favor in liking the game, so there is that as well.

So overall, you and your characters are free to indulge in the training cards however you like, but don't expect Ventus to do so. He has other things to spend his time and Poke on than a game, and likely would say as much to the others if they pressed him about it.

Ehhh.....well, I'm glad your still salient mate. Everytime I go to the dentist I'm always thrown for the loop by the numbing medicine and laughing gas they dose me up on, so seeing you alright makes me happy! Hope those painkiller don't get to you, though!

I include mechanics and orders simply because its convienant for both me and Iron to simply look at the Orders and figure out what Ven's going to do next, and plan accordingly without having to carefully read over the text more than once. That, and for clarification/refrence shake, of course!

Hey, that's very fine Windos, no need to be somewhat put on egde!~ *gently hugs* I personally don't think I'll invest a lot of money in these Cards, especially now that Nathan as she bought that Starter Pack. As for playing, that's a casual side activity done whenever I feel like, RPing/Questing/Interacting with my Pokemon is still my focus. That makes me wonder... @Iron, do you think it's legal to ask any person, mostly that one you just had a real battle with, whether he's up for a card game as well? Kinda like that NPC did with Ventus.

It's more fun with a new system, at least to me! Unless it's too much of a hassle for GM that is.

Buying specific cards is never cheap, even irl.  Unless the card in question is really common.  And even then that can still be as much as just buying a booster.  'tis the nature of trading card games, unfortunately.

I actually do play the PTCGO from time to time.  It's a nice way to actually play with the cards since I don't have anyone to play with irl.  Don't play it very often, but I do have some nice digital cards.  I think my nice irl ones are cooler, though.

In this campaign, I think it's a nice little thing for additional RP stuff.  It's not a main focus of the game by any means.  Slotting it in as a fun little thing for flavor (and with the new, streamlined system that brings it down to dice rolls instead of playing an actual game) like what the High Rollers did in that holiday stream I linked can very easily be a nice touch.

Normally, Nathan wouldn't indulge in this kinda stuff either, but it's his birthday, and that print of the skarmory card piqued his interest.  *shrug*  He probably won't collect too many more of these cards, but if he ends up seeing/getting some he particularly likes, he probably won't complain.

Creshire definitely has a problem that the trading cards are a boutique hobby. Ventus, as a hardened adventurer, is willing to take the risks required to have real Pokemon. Those who aren't willing to travel or risk violence go for the TCG instead - lots of wealthy young children. And the average Nathanesque trainer is never going to have a Moltres or even a Charizard.

It's not so much that the cards are overpriced but that real Pokemon stuff is insanely cheap. You can buy a device that can capture a living being for pocket change.

A bicycle at an American Walmart is $90. That's probably about what a 16 17 year old like Nathan, a typical new Pokemon trainer, would have. The Pokerole Bike is $1500.
The starter set is $750. This awesome thing I had when I was 12 is $70.

If Ventus wanted to buy a nice house in Creshire, it would cost about 300,000 Pokedollars, I am thinking. In Creshire that's working 5 days a week for 5 years (a lot better than the situation in America). Creshire has no income taxes because Pokemon, Meteor, and Healing Machine technology provide a very comfortable living for everyone.
By the way, $300,000 is a number you will see by the end of the campaign.

Ventus definitely has an adult mindset in regards to the TCG, though. He is not alone in his attitude. Pokemon Cards to these people are more akin to baseball cards IRL, because Pokemon are taken for granted.

In short, Pokemon economy = ??????
