Snivy trots down until it's a few feet above Swiftfire, and hisses at Nathan with a scolding gesture. It makes no attacks, but it does seem to be summoning a certain amount of power.

Nathan backs up slightly in surprise, but still tries to stay close to Swiftfire since it's still kinda chilly.  "Hey, I don't want to set fire to anything.  Just...c-c-cold.  And it's d-d-dark, too.  Swiftfire here wouldn't be present if I thought she'd set fire to the surroundings.  She can trim her flames a l-little more though if it'd make ya more c-comfortable."

Nathan (who's still kinda shivering due to the lower temperature) looks at Snivy curiously.

"...have you...always l-l-lived down h-h-here?  Not where I would have expected to find a pokemon that usually soaks up s-sunlight, to be honest."

Snivy nods, and puts a living root into its mouth, which it sucks with evident relish. Snivy visibly grows greener, and smiles.

Mightyena rests his powerful head on Shiva's shoulders. +1 Loyalty for Mightyena. Shiva is a more powerful trainer than she knows, and to such a trainer - someone with the right gleam in her eyes - Mightyena has no disobedience. Someone with leadership qualities.

He can crush small rocks to powder with his jaws.

"Huh.  That's actually quite c-clever.  Is that why you tend to roots and v-vines so carefully?"

Snivy waggles its hand - Nathan is partially right. Snivy puts one hand over its heart, expressing a sense of duty or honor or something.

"I s-see...s-sorry about jumping earlier...not every pokemon has exercised control over vines for such noble and benevolent r-reasons...some Tangrowth and v-vines were manipulated by some Claydol to attack the s-surface recently...they k-killed one of my mom's horses...kinda j-jittery because of that..."

Well, I wonder how Snivy might react to hearing that...

It was a pleasant and invigorating feeling to have the trust and loyalty of such a intimidatingly looking Pokemon - Shiva lets him rest his head on her shoulders as long as he likes while she carefully raises her arms to wrap them around his bulky neck, affectionaly running her hands through his shaggy black fur.

To pass the time until the others return, she plays a game with him where she tosses a stone towards Yena and he catches them mid-air to crunch them into dust. If he's still slightly bioluminescent, he can stay out (same with Dizzy) and guard her side when they continue their way down the tunnel full of hairy roots.

Snivy pets the hairy roots, and invites Nathan to do the same.

Which he will.  He's quiet for a moment as he contemplates things...when he breaks that silence, he's both talking to himself and to Snivy...

"...very firm and sturdy, these roots..solid and unmoving...not like the writhing mass of vines that was trying to cover everything on the surface...I still sh-shudder thinking about that...mostly because those Cl-claydol are still up there...in the Skull R-ruins...the vines are dealt with, but...the source of the problem still r-remains..."

...

"...it just...makes me s-so...angry sometimes...Almanac dug to d-deep, woke up something they shouldn't have...something relating to the l-long dead Sarimanok...and it tried to...cover the whole region in v-vines...unnatural, rapidly growing vines..."

...

"...Snivy, if I may ask...if you were to be attacked by roots and vines...how would you f-feel?  Scared?  Confident you could handle them?  Something else?"

Roots? Not scary at all to Snivy. Attacked by vines? Snivy would be scared for sure. He snuggles into the hairy root for comfort.

The roots are coarse and cold to Nathan, but apparently to Snivy they are just homey.

Brrrr....he's gonna have to stay reeaaallly close to Swiftfire after this...

"...c-can't blame ya for wanting to stay close to home...I have another question...if you could do something about vines attacking, p-potentially help stop them...would you?  Or would you leave it to someone else to h-handle?"
