Kirlia helps Ventus and Heart by waving a hand in front of Nathan's face.  Nathan blinks a few times before he partially snaps out of it.  Kirlia looks at him, wordlessly asking what's going on.  "...s-sorry...just...give me a moment, please..."

He starts muttering to himself.  Easily still audible, though.

"...I always thought it was weird you never said you visited Arrowroot Village...particularly since there used to be a Gym in that area...all the experiences, the pokemon, the phrasing...it...has to be you...it all lines up too well..."

From the sound of things, Nathan knows who the author is.

Growing ever more befuddled and worriedly curious from that vague yet all to knowing comment from Nathan, Ventus leaned down and over the boy with a concerned frown on his face and simply (and kindly) asked: "Nathan, what's wrong? By the sound of it, you appear to be aware of whom the author of this book is, but....you are not taking that Knowledge all too well. Please, tell us what is the matter...."

Seeing that Nathan failed to react in anyway towards his given opinions, and in fact seemed to be zoned out about something else that wasn't  relevant to the meeting at hand, the sociologist was swift to grow irritated......until he picked up on their tell tell feelings of dumbfoundment and shock. Ven's agitation immediately turn into mild concern and worry as he got up from his seat and stalked over to see just what caused him to become so out of sorts, standing off to the boy's side as he placed a hand on their shoulder and wordlessly shook them to snap them out of it. Whatever the deal is, they need them focused on and topic, and not completely oblivious as he was...


 During this, he also skimmed over what he could see of That Book, and was mildly surprised to find that yet ANOTHER HM could be found in The Natural Preserve (Which, given his authorization to explore and conduct his research in the place, was VERY convenient), but was mystified as to how that could have left the young scholar so thunderstruck. 'Something else about this text is responsible for his shocked state, but just what is it.....?'

Heart takes a quick look in the book. Then he have see the part about Luxray. A old memory have trigger in Heart head. A memory when Nathan show a picture of his family, along with his father who have a Luxray. A gasp came from Heart mouth then he feel his mind blowing with the revelation. He could make a link: The disapareance of Nathan father, the Luxray, and then find a book with the type of description. "Nathan...that style of writing...that information with Luxrays...is this..." Heart dont dare in the beggining but then he say. "Is this book...was write by your father?"

Ventus did a double take as Heart hesitately declared the possibility that Nathan's father was the author of this book, a look of alarm flashing across his face that was followed by the declaration: "Wait, what? His father is....is the one that wrote this manuscript, and re-discovered the Legendary HM Fly? Oh my...... Nathan.....is that the truth? Do you believe....your father is...….does this mean......"

The empath couldn't finish what he wanted to say, but the look of pure sympathetic sorrow for the boy spoke volumes enough. He knew full well how....sensitive the topic of family was to them and ESPECIALLY his missing father, so discovering signs of his existence - and by complete coincidence at that!- must have been a STELLAR and heart rending surprise. 'No wonder he's in a fine daze......I hope this discovery doesn't leave him crippled in melancholy, or pull too torturously at his heart string. Dear oh dear…..'

"...yeah...I'd always ask him questions about his pokemon and how he raises them and how they help him...he'd tell me stories of his adventures across the whole region...he'd always call the young ones furbabies...heh...it's weird to think that he thought his shoes might have been big ones to fill, too...never crossed my mind that he might be worried about that whenever I talked with him...this...brings back some good memories..."

Nathan reaches into his bag and gets out the family photo again.

"...he never did tell me how Skarmory learned how to Fly, either, no matter how many times I asked him...guess he decided to omit his trip to Arrowroot from all the tales he told...that reminds me...there's still a Gym back in Arrowroot, too...I wonder if..."

Nathan sets the photo down on the table, face up.  The blue tint of the Rapidash behind Marta and the piercing gaze of the Luxray behind Marco are as prominent as ever.

"...I'm sorry...I'm getting off track here...I just...wasn't expecting to see something my dad wrote here...no, I don't think we should go after the fossil now.  If there's a pressing need to secure it, Dagny might be able to pull a few strings for us to get us access to Garlicburg or some Scuba Gear.  I'd personally prefer using Dive since it's less conspicuous, but...well, a normal Dive from a Carvanha probably won't cut it for covertly excavating a Fossil...I don't think we should tell anyone about the fossil's location yet..."

He so damn want put his hands in that HM! "Next destination: Nature Preserve!" Say Heart with stars in his eyes.

Nathan sets the photo down on the table, face up.  The blue tint of the Rapidash behind Marta and the piercing gaze of the Luxray behind Marco are as prominent as ever.

Hearing Nathan go on a wistful and fairly heavy tangent about Marco left Ventus a little misty eye, as their feelings stirred up faded and half forgotten memories of his own father and all the good times they've shared. He reached forward to once again grip the boy's shoulder, this time as a gesture of pure sympathy as looked at them with unreserved kindess and nodded their head. Nothing pithy or witty, just a show of support that told them he understood. 

Looking at the photo and remembering what was written in that book, it should have been obvious who was the most probable author of the book was now in retrospect, but given his attention was focused elsewhere and how mildly out of sorts he was himself due to all the MAGICAL STUFF, that could be forgiven....he hopes.

Once the young scholar regained themselves and re-railed the prior discussion, the empath disengaged from them and returned to his own seat by the table/wherever the group is meeting, eyes closed as he mulled over their words, before opening and saying: "Good. I don't wish any of us to wake sleeping dragons if we don't have to, nor go on yet another dangerous quest so soon , especially since we still have not yet concluded the one we are on. If we can gain access to DIVE (He places emphasis on the word to signfy its the Better Version of the move), then we will use that, but if not we'll use whatever means we have available, if necessary to do so. I also have no qualms of the location of the fossil remaining secret, but its still ideal to leave this intel with someone in case.....something happens to all of us."

The last words had a fairly ominous tone to them, leaving plenty of room for imagination of what 'something' could be....

"We only know the probability that FLY was located in the Natural Preserve at one point, not that its definitely there or hasn't been located and moved elsewhere in secret by the League. That, and it will be a hard and long journey to get back to Arrowroot for most anyone but myself, since my brother Haziel (Natu) is the only one capable of Teleporting me directly there from Stair City. Still, following that lead is a wise idea after we finish our business in Cress after our quest, I believe, as a Gym is apparently located there and I have a research visa to explore and conduct my....well, research there with minimal opposition. Any objections to heading towards the Natural Preserve ASAP?"

Nathan opens his journal again.  Lecture time!

"There are a few important things to remember about HMs.  One: they're stronger than the average move and carry no drawbacks that moves of similar strength typically have.  Two: They can be used infinitely so long as you don't break them (they're really hard to break, though).  Three: They're incredibly rare and valuable because of the above and the fact that we've lost the knowledge of how to truly replicate them.  Four: the moves used to be much, much more widespread and used than they are today.  It used to be that every trainer had at least a Rattata that was able to crush boulders."

Nathan frowns.

"...and it's because of that last one that the League cracked down HARD on who was allowed to use HMs and when.  There's nothing illegal about a pokemon knowing an HM.  That's perfectly fine.  What is illegal is using an HM in battles that aren't regulated by League officials.  Things like Gym Battles, the Elite 4 challenges, and official League tournaments are usually the only times you can use the moves without risking someone calling you in for misuse of a move that's too powerful for an average trainer to handle."

"...on top of that, if you know where an HM is and make that known, you risk getting swarmed by trainers looking to teach their pokemon the move.  Or worse, the League catching on that you have it and confiscating it if they deem you're misusing the HM and distributing it to too many people who end up abusing the power of the move (and that's not including any...other punishments the League may throw in).  So, if there's anything we need to keep in mind, it's this: the only pokemon that we should probably teach HMs are the ones we intend to keep for ourselves, and we need to limit who we use the moves against, preferably only using the moves when absolutely necessary or when we're in the middle of nowhere. I'd also highly recommend only teaching the move to obedient pokemon to prevent accidental usage of the move.  If we don't keep our heads low where HMs are concerned, things are going to go south fast.  Is that clear?  We can get in a lot of trouble if we don't stick to those guidelines.  HMs are not tools for fame and profit if you want to avoid getting noticed.  The more people that know you have pokemon with HMs, the more likely it is that they're going to ask questions and connect the dots..."

"All but Delta Onix fit the main criteria, so yes to all of those except Delta Onix.  I'd rather not have to worry about a rampaging Onix that knows Rock Smash, to be honest..."
