[Meta thread] Iron's PokeRole Adventure: The Skull Ruins

Welp, it was nice knowing them.....not!

Just KOing Rhyhorn is not enough to come out the victor in this scenario, though. There's a lot going on and other dangers besides Pokemon, such as momentum.

In which case...I feel like we need a list of goals for this encounter.  I can think of a few things...you guys want to give me some feedback on it if I list that stuff in this thread?

I most certainly will, since you know I like to review over every little detail I can understand, and provide good advice if possible!

Uh.....Spirit, I just read your orders for the first Round against Rhydon* , and I don't think they are the most optimal. Ingrain and Substitute, while normally great defensive Moves, aren't so much when the goal is to mollly womp the Rock Beast into Faint ASAP. Since its already dead last and hardly has any DEX, Paralyzing it won't be much help either unless you are trying to catch it later, in which case the Status can be applied after its taken down.

My suggestion is just sticking to Damaging Moves, with Gargyph trying to use Stored Power for chip damage and Viktor ramming the Ground Dino with as many Horn Leeches as it can commit to. It'll be healing a guaranteed + 1 HP per hit due to doing 2 SE Damage, so Ingrain isn't really necessary.

Or course, you are free to ignore me if you wish, so in the end do however you like, mate.

Here's a list of various goals I think we need to be looking at achieving:
And here's a list of things that I think are rather notable about the situation:
Anything to add?

Well, its because we dont know how much extra HP that Rhyhorn have, so I prefer a more careful aproach to beat that thing. Even more since Gargryph is weak against Ground attacks, I prefer a more safe aproach. Less damage to him and more healing with Rebuild and Leftovers. And because I want to capture that Rhyhorn for trading when we return to the future. More Pokedollars and TM chance its always something good. And Ingrain its more because in case something happen since Iron mentioned the possibility of something to happen, and call me crazy, but I prefer be prepare than sorry. And the move Stored Power cause only 1 of power, with is not much. With the chance of Ancient Power work, the power would increase very much. And I dont want for now use some kind of revive or Hurtloam to revive a fainted pokemon of mine since we dont know when we gonna use a healing machine in our time.

But I also understand the though in cause as much damage possible to reduce the chance in causing ruckus. But I think I stick with my actual choice of orders. I want to gamble in my strategy this time.

This Rhyhorn is big enough to carry the entire wagon on its back, and it's about as wide as the road. Just to give you an idea of its size.

Hmm.....this is much tricker than I first thought, but let's see if there's anyway to neuter it....

- One way to get it to stop is if its Knocked Down, then have Viktor/Gargrieph move forward to 'restrain' it and keep the beast from building up the momentum necessary for another Charge. Viktor and them can then use Ingrain and Glare to to further fortify their positions/keep the beast from budging an inch.

- Making the ground around it have high friction or a slog would also prevent it from moving around as much, so having Starmie and Vaporeon turn the ground in front of the beast into mud could also work.

- Third option of halting it entirely is just to throw a Pokeball at it to temporarily Capture it, as all Pokemon are dematerialized from local space whenever that happens. Doubtful that will work in ACTUALLY capturing it, but if everyone throw a ball at it when it breaks out, then its not going to gain much ground going forward.

- If Rhydon can Dig, that has to be accounted for as well if it IS stopped but not Fainted, as it could just dive down and resurface right under the Gogoats/Wagon. Not sure how, but thought I point out that issue out.

- I would advise AGAINST using ROCK SMASH, as revealing the as of 'now' Lost HM to the world will most likely have long term ramifications if either Dr. M or the Smeargle Caravan Crowd gets talky about what went down. Forcibly changing its course will not likely work so well unless you target specific parts of the beast and/or have REALLY high BP Moves, as either a precise or LARGE amount of force is going to be necessary to overcome the inertia Rhydon* has built up.

- A last ditch option could be to instead try to force the Caravan out of the way of the Rhydon*'s path, since its a lot less heavy and unwieldy to change its course. Sure, it would jostle the occupants and Gogoats, but I'd say control Damage is better than letting the Rock Beast get them all under its great big stony feet and stamp stamp stamp.

- Deliberately Taunting or pissing it off into changing Target could work too, but then the Taunter/Pisstaker is going to get focused down hard.

That's all the decent ideas I have right now. What you think of them?

I think thats a good idea in restrain that Rhydon. And since Viktor and Gargryph its the most tough pokemon in the moment, thats a good strategy.
