Safari Cup - Heart 1 Round 4

"Bwahaha! I caught the mightiest Safari Zone bug! Go, Pinsir, use Thrash!"

(3) v (3)(4)(4)

Superpower 1
(5)(4)(3)(6)(2)(1)
(5)(6)(2)(1)(4) Delta Pikachu takes 3 lethal dmg

"BWEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" A sharp whistle sounds as Pinsir sends Pikachu far out of the battlefield on the end of his tusks. An ashen-faced Bugcatcher withdraws Pinsir and hands the Safari Ball to the official running out onto the field. Nurse Joy also runs out to grab Pikachu and begin patching up those wounds.

"Sorry, Heart, I won't be able to bring Pikachu back up to full health in time for the next round of the tournament. Your special little guy will be absolutely fine tomorrow."

The Bugcatcher is disqualified. Heart wins!

Kanga earns 3XP and Pikachu earns 7XP.

Your next opponent is Ruin Maniac Bilbo.

Alright, battle #3...ya know, since it's 5 battles to get 1st place, single elimination...that probably means that there's 32 contestants in this tournament at most (2 to the 5th power= 32).  And seeing as Nathan is in Round 3 (which would have 8 contestants in a 32 person bracket) and hasn't encountered Bug Catcher Burt, Anaster, Heart, nor Spira yet...that must mean that between those 4 trainers, at least two of them are going to be facing each other in Round 3 (assuming none of them lose/are disqualified), depending on how everyone was seeded!  What an exciting thought!  There's only room for 4 trainers in the semifinals, and there's 5 notable trainers from the player standpoint...who will get there, I wonder?

In any case, Nathan needs to swap a few items and pokemon around for this battle.  Now that he's about halfway through this, he needs to stay at the top of his game!  If he can win this battle, he could potentially place 3rd or higher...

----------------------

As Nathan faces his opponent, he gives the fisherman a courteous nod.  "Alright, ready when you are."  He tosses the Safari Ball, and its contents end up not on land, but in one of the pools of water!  He's not leading with one of his Doduo or Delta Parasect this time!

And then a tiny little draconic head peeks out from the surface of the water.  Except it's a very noticeable pink instead of a harder to notice blue, and it's causing the water immediately around it to sparkle more than usual.  Nathan's first pokemon for this battle is:

Mizu, the shiny Dratini!

Even if the crowd can't see it, Nathan's very obviously got a smile on his face as he crosses his arms, says, "So, whatcha think of my catch of the day?" and waits to see the fisherman's response to seeing this insanely rare pokemon.

That oughta get the crowd's attention again, too!  Though if anyone's paying attention to Gallade, they'll notice he's just kinda smiling along with Nathan, not surprised at all, quietly chuckling at both the amazed reactions from everyone and what he'd just realized.  Ah, NOW he gets why Nathan started with Delta Parasect in that second round of battling...hopefully this works out a bit better for Nathan than attempting to use Delta Parasect did, though.

The Gate-keeping Round: Frantic Fields (Normal) - Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Mizu's ready and raring to go, eager to get this battle started!  A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and Mizu certainly has a lot of growing to do on that journey before she can be a big, super strong Dragon!  All eyes are on her, but her eyes are focused squarely on the opponent in front of her (whatever pokemon it happens to be)!  Unlike most of the pokemon in this tournament, she considers herself a member of Nathan's little group (3 Loyalty), so her small amount of Disobedience (1) won't be an issue at all!  And even though it's for different reasons than Nathan, Mizu wants to win this battle too!

"No problem Nurse Joy. I acostumed to battle under pressure those times." Heart also grab the revive he always carry with him. He use it to revive the falling Kangas who was fainted. And to patch her wounds he use a Super Potion to patch her HP at the max. "I might need you later in next battles. Thank you for holding your lethal attacks. I make sure my promise in release you and your child."

Heart finally taking care of her wounds, he comes to the battlefield, ready to face the next opponent. Heart throw the Safari Ball and release Exeggcute. "Bring on your Pokemon my friend. I pumped on to go foward!"

Extra note @Iron: What kind of weather is today? Since Chlonofyr...I mean Clonorfyr. Whatever! Exeggute ability make him able to boost his Dexterity in 2 in Sunlight.
Kogeki currently ability to active in battles: Anticipation.

"Okay things are starting to heat up. Trapinch, let's fight a little dirty, use a non-lethal Crunch, then follow that up with two Mud Slaps and Sand Tomb and follow all that with Bide."

Crunch
Accuracy: Dex+Fight+Brawl-5 Actions= 8D6
Damage: Strength+3= 6D6
Notes: Lethality is held back, 1CD to reduce Defense 1 stage; might have some issues with the 1 Loyalty vs 2 disobedience, though.

Mud Slap A
Accuracy: Dex+Fight+Canalize-5 Actions= 7D6
Damage: Strength+STAB+1= 5D6
Notes: -1 penalty to target's Accuracy

Mud Slap B
Accuracy: Dex+Fight+Canalize-5 Actions= 6D6
Damage: Strength+STAB+1= 5D6
Notes: redundant -1 penalty to target's Accuracy

Sand Tomb
Accuracy: DEX+Fight+Brawl-2 Penalty-5 Actions= 3D6
Damage: Strength+STAB+1= 5D6
Notes:  Ranged, Block, target takes 2D6 Damage at the end of every round for 4 rounds.
(originally planned 2 Sand Tombs, but almost forgot about that innate penalty smh)

Bide
Accuracy: DEX+Fight+Brawl-5 Actions= 4D6
Damage: Varies
Notes: User takes next 2 hits; afterwards, can use this move again to retaliate w/ Strength+twice damage taken from those 2 hits.

The Ruin Maniac sends out Rhyhorn. (4) + 9 = 13
Exeggcute: (2)

It's just a little overcast today. I think I'll roll weather for the final rounds.

The Fisherman can't believe his eyes. He literally rubs at them. "Not just a Dratini, but a rare pink one? In your first Safari Cup? I've done my research, kid, and that's... well, it makes you someone to watch, that's all."

He's released a Poliwrath by this point. It's bulging with extra muscles on an abnormally broad frame, and for some reason it's wearing little shoes made of folded lilypads.

Poli: (4) + 4 Dex + 5 Survival = 13
Dratini: (2) + 10 = 12

The crowd around Nathan's battlefield grows even bigger! This will be a tough match, and it'll be something to see no matter who the victor is!

Safari Cup - Spira 1 Round 4

(5) v (1)(5)

Iron Head 1
(1)(3)(2)(6)(5)
(6)(6)(5) Trapinch takes 3 dmg 5/8hp -1 pain
CD: (5)(5)(3)

(2) v (2)(5) That's not disobedient enough to use a lethal move, but Trapinch gets a little confused by the order and uses the less powerful Bite instead.

Bite 1
(3)(4)(2)(4)(5)(6) (6) Critical hit.
(4)(4)(3)(2) Lairon takes 2 dmg 3/7hp -2 pain
CD: (5)(1)(4)

(5) v (6)(3), Lairon seems to like Iron Head.

Iron Head 2
(6)(2)(6)(3)
(5)(2)(4) Trapinch takes 2 dmg 2/8hp -2 pain
CD: (4)(6)(3)
Trapinch flinches 2

"Finish him off with Double Edge!"

(1) v (1)(4)

Much like Trapinch, Lairon uses a less powerful move instead. It ends with Lairon standing over Trapinch, one heavy foot on the faltering little Pokemon.

Take Down 3
(6)
(4)(6)(6) Trapinch faints.

Out comes Beedrill again! Beedrill has the initiative, but that Fell Stinger buff is gone.

Nathan chuckles.  "Research and knowing where to look only goes so far in finding some pokemon, after all. Sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time."

Quick question before I send some orders: would it be possible for Mizu to take the battle underwater?  Her best moves in this matchup are all Canalize based, so she doesn't have to get out of the water to attack, which could force Poliwrath to get in the water as well to actually try and hit her, or get him close enough to drag him in with Wrap or knock him over into the water.  Brawl based moves are less effective underwater (potentially both less accurate and less powerful for obvious reasons), so Mizu would have an advantage there.

It's irrelevant in this case because Poliwrath is perfectly amphibious.

Generally, you can only force someone into a specific zone if you have more Strength and Dexterity than them. But you can certainly make a note that your Pokemon will stay in the water or 99% underwater - this may grant cover or may influence the opponent to come into the water and take penalties, or whatever else I deem reasonable.
