[Game thread] Skull Ruins Pokerole
(02-01-2019, 08:34 PM)Iron Wrote:

(Now THAT is a threat worthy of challenging Terra!!!)

The moment the earth shook like a spurned Wobbuffet on the rebound, Terra immediately sprang back a few feet to put some distance between, his expression both EXTREMELY wary and gravely serious as scowl marred his features as watch water replace the quicksand mire.

'Earthquake.....felt something like it before. .....Wait. Mud.....quicksand.......ground tremors.........water welling up......oh no. Oh no. That Pokemon underground is......

A colossal catfish emerged from the drink, and the rugged wanderer's fear is made manifest as his eyes widened in shock and fear.

"........A Whiscash!!!"

Terra shouted his discovery at the top of his lungs, before throws his head back towards Geo and using the same voice on him.

"Get far back! Now!"

He then promptly return his attention onto the revealed Giga Whiscash, focusing on it with sheering intensity as he barked out his orders to his partners with great urgency and authority.

"Posei, Hyponsis on Whiscash, then Body Slam it hard! Duskull, Curse it, then Confuse it, then use Shadow Sneak twice! Follow my orders, or I will remove you from the Fight and punish you later. Big Whiscash Dangerous, so we can not make ANY mistakes or take ANY risks. Understand?

The sagely monk glares at his sinister spirit with grave expectation, his tone and stare perfectly conveying the consequences if they decide to act up or rebel.

Normally he'd abhorred giving such draconic treatment to his Pokemon, no matter how surely or Disobedient they may be, but he and his partners were up against a gargantuan Whiscash, one that utterly  dwarfed all its kin in his memory and  whose notorious reputation and the severe danger its kind poses to just about anyone  was more than well known to him. It was a Pokemon that could NOT be taken with even a trace amount of lightness or afforded any opportunity that it could use to literally swamp everyone, so he had no choice but to be firm with Duskull.

Whether or not it would listen despite the warning.......well, let's just hope it acts within its best long term interests, rather than spite.

Orders: Posei will use Hypnosis on Giga Whiscash, then Body Slam twice, while Duskull Curses it, uses Confuse Ray, before ripping it up with two Shadow Sneaks. A Will Point will be spent on Hypnosis to give it one automatic success, and Terra has Duskull's ball at hand to recall them if they act up and replaced with Angie in short order (Yes, during the Round. She won't get any Actions, but Terra NEEDS to divide Giga Whiscash's attention, and they are conveniently Immune and/or Resistant to both its STABs, so it should be fine). Posei has conditional orders to Evade any Fissures it may or may not have. Potion will be applied to the First Pokemon that suffers - 1 Pain ASAP. Once its been Status with Hypnosis, Curse, Confusion, and at least - 1 Pain, a Capture attempt will be made; if Duskull disobeys, a Capture Attempt will be made at just it being put to Sleep and preferably - 1 Pain. Also, increasing Allure by 1, to make absolutely sure Hypnosis hits!

Terra knows that a Whiscash is Serious Business, so let's take care of it before it does terrible things to EVERYONE!

Moves:

Hypnosis
Accuracy: DEX (2) + Fight (5) + Allure (1) - 4 Accuracy - 3 Action + *1 Success = 1D6 + 1 Dice (It literally can't miss, especially with the way I set out my orders!
Effect: Nighty night!

Posei: 3 Actions - Hyponsis (See Above), and Body Slam X2 (8D6 Base Damage, *Paralysis 3*)
Condition Orders: Dodge any Fissures over completing its Actions, if at all possible.
Duskull: 4 Actions - Curse, Confuse Ray, and Shadow Sneak X2 (9D6 Base Damage, *Priority 1*)

Dice Pools: 8D6 (Allure, wish it was Channel), 10D6 (Channel), 11D6 (Brawl)
Like the wind, I come and go as I please... but I am always there to provide a comforting breeze.

It looks a bit like a Sylveon's for some of its length, or a Cinccino for other parts, or a Contest ribbon, or a Glaceon's thingies, spotted with Gothitellian bows. The whole thing is wispy and gauzy, with a rainbow of colors and designs. The most special thing about it is how long it can stretch. It can't really bear any weight without things just phasing through it, but it can stretch to a couple dozen yards in length.

"The Ethereal Ribbon is a great item for lovers of the fairy type, who love to get into Double Battles! Two of your Pokemon can wear it at once, powering up all their Fairy moves and any move used by a Prankster! It'll get the battlefield all tangled up, hehe!"

+1 dmg dice on Fairy moves, +1 accuracy dice on moves that have been boosted by Prankster, can affect your entire team of Pokemon at once.

Celebi Park would be a great place for a single Minicorn to dwell, but they need a lot of territory.

Spritzee gets a Knowledge Training roll: (4)(1)(3)(4)(6)(4) (3)(3)(4)

Gloom gains 1 Happiness

*gasps sharply* When Shiva carefully takes that precious Ethereal Ribbon in her hand, a nearly impercible wave of pleasant shivers runs down her back: Yes, it indeed feels like this ribbon was made for her and just waited until she comes along. She loves it and knows her fairies will do as well, so she happily trades all the jewelry (except that piece reserved for Angela of course) for it. Some honest and grateful thanks given to the salesman/woman later, Shiva makes her way out of Violet Tent again with her Pokemon by her side and a pleased smile on her face.

Many thanks for thinking up this cool Item for me, Iron! It's perfect for my chara and I like it a lot. ^_^ I'll assume it's allowed in official battles as you haven't stated otherwise.

I have one more guess for a good territory for a Minicorn that I'll visit another day.

For Shiva's 2nd Encounter of the current in-game Day she visits Cress City's Pokemon Center and asks whether she could possibly use the kitchen to cook special food for her Pokemon, it shouldn't take too long and of course she'll clean up afterwards. If the staff allows, she'll prepare everything to turn the Urlat Bush leaves she collected in the Safari Zone into three tasty UltraSnax, Azu is happy to help and Nightshade is delighted to observe the process curiously.

She has made Pokemon Food at home several times already, if a cooking roll is nevertheless needed to see whether she succeeds here, it's (I guess) 6*Insight + 3 Knowledge + 4 Crafting + 2 Helping Hand from Azu = 15d6. Two of the freshly made UltraSnax are right away fed to Nightshade with the words "I haven't forgotten, my dear cherry blossom!~ How's it, good? "

Posei: (6)
Duskulll: (5)
Whiscash: Always last

Safari Whiscash Round 1

Hypnosis 1
(6) (6*)
The move lands, but the Whiscash does not sleep. Once awakened, it can't be sent back to sleep so easily!
Whiscash's Insomnia prevents sleep.

Duskull gains 2 points of Loyalty to reach obedience. He's seen you trek through all kinds of dangerous situations and your decisions always came out ahead. Now it's time to get serious.

Curse 1
(6)(5)(2)(2)(1)(1)
(5)(4)(4)(6) Unfortunately, Duskull takes 4 dmg as he applies the Curse. He's definitely getting really into this battle. Terra heals him with a Potion. 9/9hp
Whiscash was cursed.

The Safari Zone cracks as a fissure races toward Posei. He sees it coming and prepares to jump it.
Fissure 1
15 dice -3 actions -7 accuracy = 5d6
(4)(4)(3)(5)(6)(1*)(1*) = 3 successes
Evade 2(5)(3)(6) You just don't have enough dexterity to succeed. With Curse, there's a chance though.
Posei faints!

Confuse Ray 2
(6)(5)(1)(3)(6)
Whiscash became confused!
Confusion and Curse is a good combo, but Whiscash's attacks are so large it's pretty hard for him to miss.

Whiscash flings up colossal amounts of mud.
Muddy Water 2
(2)(2)(6)(1)(1)(4) (6)(5)(2)(1*)(1*)
Terra must roll Survival -2 to stay away from these massive area attacks. (6)(5)(1) He's got sufficient cover and distance.
8 Str +3 power +1 stab -6 vit = 6d6
(1)(5)(5)(2)(5)(3) (1*)(1*) Duskull takes 2 dmg 7/9hp -1 pain
CD: (3)(6)(1) -1 accuracy for Duskull

Shadow Sneak 3 - uses Stealth = 7 dice, -6 action, -1 pain, -1 acc = not enough dice

Muddy Water 3
(1)(4)(5)(6)(2)(3) (2)(6)(1*)(1*)
(6)(5)(4)(2)(3)(5) (1*)(1*) Duskull takes 3 dmg 4/9hp -2 pain

Duskull helpfully switches to a different move, because Shadow Sneak would never have had enough dice in this 4th action.

Night Shade 4
10 channel, -7 action, -2 pain, -1 acc = 0 dice.

You're missing two of your criteria, so I'm assuming Terra would not make a capture attempt. These colossi can have exceptionally large Will.

Yeah, the Ribbon is allowed in official battles. You're welcome to think up more descriptions of portions of the ribbon or how its effects occur in battle.

Nightshade eats the Snax. Mm, really nourishing!

Not that I don't appreciate Duskull instantly becoming perfectly Loyal, but being blindsided like that really take the joy out of that.)

I'll summerize Terra's reactions and command this Round, since I'm busy today and not really enthused enough to put more effort in this post:

- Terra's somewhat surprised by Duskull's suddenly having complete faith in his command, but he quickly takes it stride with smile as he reaffirms them to go.
- He's less far less pleased discovering that Giga Whiscash is Immune to Sleep Moves, though, and seeing Posei getting swallowed up by a Fissure cause him to immediately recall them in a panic, before he fix the colossal catfish with an even more wary and serious scrutiny.
- At the end of the Round, the sagely monk sends out Angie and withcalls Duskull without replacement, leaving it a 1v1 until the end of Round 3, where he'll send them out again. He wants to dispel the Muddy Water Debuff, but he's unwilling to send a non-Flying type out to face Whiscash until its sufficiently worn down that Fissure no longer possess a credible threat.
- Angie's Orders for this Round are Agility and 3X Dragon Breaths until its Paralyzed, after which she'll switch to Bite (Replacing DB in the lineup) to Flinch them. I'd use Sky Fall, but I realize that it probably wouldn't work on Giga Whiscash, and I don't want to Damage it too much until its Paralyzed.
- Capture Orders are waiting until its Paralyzed and Suffering from at least - 1 Pain, and if Bite comes up in the Action rollout then he'll wait to see if it's Flinched by one of them, before throwing a Safari Ball.

Moves

4 Actions: Agility (+2 DEX), Dragon Breath X3 (8D6 Damage, *Paralysis 5*)
Conditional Orders: Switch to using Bite (7D6 Damage, *Flinch 5*) when its Paralyzed
Dice Pool: 7D6 (Atheletics), 10D6 (Channel), 11D6 (Brawl)

I gave you the hint about its sleeping patterns, and you wanted a challenge, so live with it. I find it very lame that one little thing can ruin an entire encounter for you. Keep it to yourself unless it's a suggestion about GMing skills - which tilting when something is wasted is not. Or leave the encounter if you must. It really makes the game no fun for me.

A quick post while busy is perfectly fine, however!

Giga Whiscash Round 2

Angie: (5) if that matters

Agility 1
(5)(2)(3) Angie becomes like the wind!

Wishcash looks grumpy at being shut down with so many flying/levitating Pokemon. It doesn't know it's up against a dragon, though.

Survival: (6)(5)(3)

Muddy Water 1
(6)(1)(4)(6)(4)(1) (3)(2)(1) (1*)(1*)
(1)(2)(4)(3)(5)(2)(1*)(1*) Thanks to Duskull, this doesn't even affect Angie!
CD: (3)(4)(1)

Dragon Breath 2
(2)(6)(1)(3)(3)(5)(3) (You didn't include Agility in that pool, right?)
(5)(4)(5) Whiscash took 3 dmg 16/19hp -1 pain = 15 base HP + 4 vit
CD: (4)(5)(2)(6)(5) Whiscash was paralyzed.
Though its size is colossal, its skin is somewhat weak and flubbery. Relatively speaking.

Terra is just waiting on Bite now.

Muddy Water 2
(1)(1)(2)(6)(1) Ok
(4)(4)(2)(5)(1)(2) It takes 3 dmg in its confusion!

Bite 3
(6)(6)(2)(5)(1)(6)(4) Critical hit
(3)(4)(3)(4)(2) Whiscash takes 2 dmg 14/19hp -1 pain
CD: (2)(3)(6)(1)(2) Whiscash flinched 3

Bite 4
(4)(3)(1)(2)(2)(2)
(4)(2)(4) Whiscash takes 2 dmg 9/19hp -2 pain

Safari Balls
(6)(2)(2)(6)
It has 14 Will, the most of any Pokemon you've seen so far. -1 paralysis, -1 confusion, -2 pain, Curse on the end.
(5)(2)(2)(1)(3)(3) (2)(3)(6)(5)(1*)(1*) Very close, it didn't even shatter the ball.

(4)(3)(6)(1)
(6)(2)(2)(1)(2)(5) (1)(1)(5)(6) (1*)(1*) Another close one that doesn't waste a Safari Ball.

(Let us agree to disagree on the whole matter, and move on. Neither of us want a row over it, I think, and I've cooled off enough that I don't feel nearly as upset over the surprise, nor that it entirely ruined the Encounter. I will say that Giga Whiscash having Insomnia and wasting hard earned Will/invalidating part of my plans was the only problem I had, though. Everything else was more than fine and fair to me, in all honestly, even Posei getting Fissured. I think you are doing a good job with Giga Whiscash on the whole, so please don't be too discourage by my criticism of one aspect of it.)

(Also, no I didn't include Agility Bonus. I didn't know it would go off guaranteed, so I didn't bank on it in my calcs. Never make absolute plans on uncertainty, as I say.)

(On a different note, I'm also confused that Terra didn't throw a Ball out to catch Giga Whiscash as it was Flinched, but then again the results of that would have mirrored the Capture Rolls at - 2 Pain, so I don't think that's a big deal.)

Alright, still pretty busy atm the moment (my work never ends...), so I'll continue to keep things brief for everyone's shake:

- With the colossal catfish seemingly on the ropes, Terra sends out Duskull once more, giving him orders to take cover behind Angie in order to reduce the amount of incoming Damage. His spirit is literally weak right now, so it doesn't need anymore trauma if anyone can help it!
- Angie is being given orders to use 4 Restrained Bites on Giga Whiscash, and Duskull is told to use Wil-lo-wisp on it in order to continue heaping on the Status, followed by one Restrained Nightshades. If Giga Whiscash tries to put out its Burn and is successful, though, the dread specter will attempt to re-apply it.
- Capture Orders for this Round is trying to get it Burned and then Flinched before more Safari Balls are thrown, as now its more about trying to reel in the big bad bottomfeeder than trying to wear it out. If its not Burned and/or Flinched by the end of the Round, though, more Capture Attempts will be made regardless.)
- If Giga Whiscash decides it has had enough and tries to escape, though, Angie and Duskull will go after it with Dig and Ghost Phasing respectively to drive it back up to the surface. It will not escape the steely brawler outside of being captured, not after all the ruckus and trouble it caused!

Moves:

Angie: 4 Actions - Restrained Bite X4 (3D6 / 2 Damage, *Flinch 5*)
Conditional Orders: Use Dig to chase after and drive up Giga Whiscash to the surface, should it try to bail out.
Duskull: 2 Actions - Wil-lo-wisp (- 3 Accuracy, Burn Target), Restrained Night Shade (3D6 / 2 Damage)
Conditional Orders: Substitute Night Shades with Wil-lo-wisp if Giga Whiscash puts itself out.

Dice Pools: 10D6 (Channel), *13D6 (Brawl [Angie])
Like the wind, I come and go as I please... but I am always there to provide a comforting breeze.

The place I had Terra throw the Safari Ball was a relic of me forgetting Confusion in an earlier draft, but you're right that it doesn't make a difference now.

Giga Whiscash Round 3

Bite 1
(5)(6)(2)(2)(4)(6) (6)(6)(1) A critical hit, though restrained.
(4)(4)(4)(2)(2) 7/19hp -2 pain
Flinch: (4)(4)(1)(6)(6)
Whiscash flinches 1

Will-o-Wisp 1
(2)(5)(5)(2)(2)
Whiscash was burned!

Safari Ball 1&2
(2)(4)(5)(6) v (3)(6)(4)(5)(6)(1) (5)(5)(6)(1*)(1*) Shatter!
(5)(6)(3)(4) v (5)(3)(1)(2)(2)(5) (4)(1)(3) (1*)(1*) There we go! Colossi are not an easy capture. In your merchanting days, you've actually heard of even bigger and harder to catch Pokemon than this, but this is probably the biggest one you've ever seen personally. Your Safari Ball actually has trouble holding it; it's nearing the technological limit due to its mass/density/size.

Gotcha! Giga Whiscash was caught!
0/0/5
Ability is Insomnia whenever it's awake, but Oblivious when it's asleep. It will try to be asleep as much as possible, only waking up a few days each year - when it does, it's hungry!
Zen Headbutt, Tickle, Mud Slap, Amnesia, Snore, Aqua Tail, Earthquake, Muddy Water
It also knows Rest but it can only use it when it's ready to return to slumber.

If you try to sell or train this Pokemon, remember what I said earlier about what a dangerous combo a disobedient Whiscash is.

I had an idea for a followup Encounter. I'll roll rarity to see if there's anything special about it.

(2)(5)(1)(4)(4)(3) (6)

Whiscash coughs as you try to catch it. Coming up in an expectoration of sand and water is a Seismitoad, bulky and a little overgrown. It's missing a few HP from its journey through Whiscash's mouth, though. It has a very faint swirl on its belly, like perhaps it has a Poli somewhere in its ancestry, and it has little black spikes between each knuckle. It waves at Terra and signals that it would like to battle the guy who just saved it.

(Well, this big bad bottom feeder is quite a brute. Like with Octillery, though, there is no way in hecky that I'm going to try and train it. OOC it probably require extreme draconian measures and multiple Torchic Teeth to become obedient that I don't want to invest in - Not when I already HAVE three good Waters in Posei, Lovely, and Swolturtle [Nickname still pending]. IC, Terra considers wild Whiscash equivalent to an living, voracious natural disaster primed and ready to cause trouble for EVERYONE, so no way he want to keep one except in a PC!)

(XP for the Encounter, Iron? Or shall we wait on that after Poli Seismitoad is taken care of before getting to that?)

Seeing his second Safari Ball visibly strain caused Terra to tense even more uncomfortably, his frown deepening into an flinty grimace as he anxiously watched it struggle to contain the colossal catfish that was Giga Whiscash, afraid that it too might break and unleash the beast and its WRATH upon everyone once more.

As a native Hoenien that explored the entire region, he was intimately aware of the most dangerous species of Pokemon that roamed his homelands, and wild Whiscash ranked up their with Salamence, Crawdaunt, Aggron, and infuriated Camerupt/Dusclops as the deadliest among them. Its fierce territorial, destructive, and all consuming nature had rightfully earned it the moniker 'The Living Natural Disaster', with only the bravest or foolish trying their hand at taming such beast, and more often than not getting maimed at beast or devoured at worst for their efforts. The sagely monk himself had the distinct displease of running afoul of the species several times in his journies back home, so he could more than confirm that every bit of the claims against all big bad bottom feeders were true.

Which made the absolutely GIGANTIC one he'd lured to the surface an absolute terror and intense stress inducing Encounter for him, but he just gritted his teeth and resolutely stood his ground against. No matter how much of a monumental threat it was, or maybe because of it, the rugged wanderer refused to falter or flee from the big bad bottom feeder. Letting it run amok would cause literal and unmitigated natural disaster to the entirety of the Safari Zone and endanger the lives of everyone in it,  which he could not allow .

No, he would stop the Giga Whiscash, once and for all. He was the one that riled it up, so it was his responsibility to take care of it.

To his IMMENSE relief, that Safari Ball was able to contain the colossal catfish, causing him to nearly slump as he let out an explosive *SIGH* as he immediately sent it off to the PC. The Living Natural Disaster had been successfully contained and adverted.

"Big Whiscash caught.........good. VERY good. Everyone safe now, no longer in danger......huh?"

It was then that he noticed what appeared to be a toad monster of sorts crawling out of the silt the bottomfeeder had vomited up and was instantly put on high alert again, thinking it was yet another threat. It be just his luck, really.

'Oh no.......another monster to deal with.....? No, wait.......its......friendly?'

Thankfully, it appeared the warty toad was grateful for him rescuing it from the maw of the big bad bottomfeeder (however unintentionally), and wanted a celebratory battle as thanks. Naturally, this cause him to blink a couple of times in surprise, before letting out a friendly chuckle and nodding his head.

"Okay, Big Toad. Always up for good fight."

Before that, though, the steely brawler takes notice of their injuries from being digested , and frowns thoughtfully, before pulling out a Potion and motioning for them to come over.

"Hm....you look hurt, so let me heal you first. Want to have a fair fight with you, okay?"

He looked thoughtful again after saying this as an idea occurred to him, and so he promptly shared it with the toad monster.

"After Fight, how about we become partners? Saved your life, so feel like I owe you a better one. You will be taken care of well, become strong and mighty, and never worry about being eaten again. How does that sound, Big Toad?"

Regardless of their answer, the first Pokemon he sends out against it is surprisingly Mawile, who takes one look at the Water/Ground Type before favoring her partner with a deadpan stare and hands on hips. Oh, so now she fully on board with this whole 'partnership' business, your putting her up against an unfavorable Type match up now, eh? She know she's a glutton for many things, but punishment isn't one of them - at least, not on the recieving end of it. What gives?

Terra naturally understands her reluctant irritation, and gives her a smile and comforting pat on the head as he explains his decision.

"Duskull is hurt badly from Fight with BIG Whiscash, Posei got OHKO with Fissure, and don't want to give Big Toad unfair fight against Angie, Lovely, or Mikey, so you are the only left. If you do not want to, though, I understand, and will not force you. Well, Pixie?"

The fierce fae mulled over her mountain of a partner's words for a moment, before rolling her eyes and giving them an wane smirk + a nod, before she gives him a stern look and points at his trousers. Oh alright, if you put it like that, she supposes that fighting the big lug isn't that raw of a deal, but she demands tribute for her noble sacrifice in exchange!

That earned a small chuckle and nod back from him, before he pointed at the ample amphibian with moderate seriousness.

"Okay. Now Pixie, use Iron Defense, then start Playing Rough with Big Toad. Should be able to tank SE Moves with Intimidate and Defense Buff, so don't worry too much. If they do hurt you bad enough, though, switch to using Faint Attack. *Smiles* Now go, and do your best Pixie."

Orders: Terra will send Giga Whiscash off to be healed/contained in his PC, before offering to heal Seismitoad up as a gesture of kindness before offering it to join his party after the fight. His choice for the battle will be Pixie, and she will be using Iron Defense and 3 Play Roughs against the monster from the lagoon, but if she somehow falls to - 2 Pain she'll switch to Faint Attack to prevent misses. Also, if Iron Defense fails to procs, she'll obviously substitute her next Action to use it again before proceeding as normal. Its a metallic mawler vs a down to earth 'n water marsh monster, so she needs all the protection she can get against it! If the Seismitoad inflicts ANY Status on her, Terra will cure it instantly with the appropriete Status Healing Item (He at least 1 of each, so he's good for it), as he wants the battle to be fair on both ends. Let's see if a Type Disadvantage is enough to spell the doom of the the puckish Pixie!

Moves:

4 Actions - Iron Defense (+2 Defense), Play Rough X3 (- 1 Accuracy, 9D6 Damage, *Lower STR by 1 [1]*
Conditional Orders: Use Faint Attack instead of Play Rough if she falls to - 2 Pain, and reuse Iron Defense until it procs, then proceed with the rest of her actions.
Note: Since Ability Stat Modifiers overlap with Move Stat Modifiers, is it possible for Play Rough's effect to combo with Intimidate? That be awesome if that was the case, as how can I say no to effectively giving her a total of + 4 Defense if she's lucky?
Dice Pools: 6D6 (Iron Defense]), 5/4/3/2D6 (Brawl Moves)
