[Meta thread] Iron's PokeRole Adventure: The Skull Ruins
(04-09-2019, 04:01 PM)Lord Windos Wrote: @Mikaruge108

Been reading your recent orders for Spira's Gym Battle, and I'd notice you didn't account for Mightyena's Taunt with a set of Conditional orders for Hilda. I can't blame you for falling for it the first time, as being prepared for it required being paranoid enough to read up on its Bulba page and planning accordingly, but after that you should have been expecting it to happen to prevent the lava slug from healing or buffing. If you had, you'd probably gotten an extra attack in without wasting an Action + Accuracy Dice, which could have meant taking down Mightyena all the quicker. Conditional Orders for when something doesn't go as you planned to keep up a strong offense/things from falling apart is something to keep in mind when battling, generally speaking, though up against weak opponents or a Pokemon you know doesn't pose much a difficulty you don't have to make them.

Its pretty much what I do with all my Battles, and it usually pays off in the long run, bar the dice being especially uncooperative. Takes longer to make the post, sure, but if that extra time can make it so that things turn out more good than not.....

I pretty much agree with this. Your conditional orders can be simple or very specific, whatever you wish. A Taunted Pokemon will use the most relevant move you ordered for it unless a conditional order is given, like "If Taunted, use the strongest attack he's allowed to use" or "the most accurate move" or "use Smog in place of Recover if necessary."

I'd wanted to battle him in the Third Encounter, but if you wish I'll concede it to you. I'll just find something else to do during them, like borrowing a Teleporting to go challenge Tanuki if anyone would allow that. Need to cross that Gym off my to do sheet sooner or later!

You could also challenge Angela.  She's in the area at the moment.  Just gotta ask Nathan about where to find her and why Terra would want to battle her in the first place.

Oh! Well, that be sweet too! I'll definately bring that up after we have our battle during the Second Encounter, mate!

Gotcha! Pyroar was caught!

Yes!  Finally!  It finally paid off!  Whoo hoo!

Just for clarification, though, Iron, when you mentioned the Disobedience roll for Pyroar, does that mean he only rolls for Disobedience when Nathan tries to get him to work with a pokemon with a Disobedience score?  Or will it still be rolled as normal until Pyroar is as Loyal as he is Disobedient?  A pretty important question given that Pyroar are able to learn Hyper Beam for 0 exp, and also because I remember something being said about stopping Pyroar from continuing to attack in a battle after the opponent has been defeated being a potential issue.

-----------------------

Also, slightly off topic, but I only just now noticed that male Pyroar's mane has the Japanese symbol for Fire on it...

In battle he'll have to roll Disobedience based on his 2/3 stats, maybe with a bit of fudging based on how cute his opponent is, but outside of battle he might still disobey if he has to work with scary Pokemon. It will be a bit shaky for him until he fully learns to tolerate other Pokemon.

What about Terra? He's not a Pokemon, but he's pretty much one of the most terrifying beings around even without trying, with only Pokemon with Intimidate or obscenely strong/Disobedient Pokemon beating him out on that front. He also often has a tough and fierce some Pokemon by his side, which may or may not compound the issue of his Intimidation more. Will Pyroar react favorably to my chara, despite that quality of his?

Oh, you wanted to do that as the second encounter?  Guess Nathan's going to have a rather battle heavy day, then.  Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, of course.

He likes all humans, and Terra is still recognizably human. You might be able to trick him more easily than other humans, though.

Yeap, unless you have plans for it? Or the Mine takes multiple Encounters, in which case we'll have to do our battle another day. Thems the breaks, if that's the case!

No, no particular plans for that battle.  Just have another battle on top of the gym battle I want to get out of the way ASAP since I've been waiting on it for a reeeeeeeaaaaalllly long time now.

A thought just occurred to me: Are some of the mushrooms on Terra's tanky Torterra (Say that three times fast!) edible, valuable , and/or medicinally useful? My chara would have a good chance of figuring that out in any case, given that living and surviving in the wilderness lead to him cultuvating quite a lot about all natural edibles and useful items found in it (Doesn't hurt his Nature is 3 too).

@Lord Windos, I wished to challenge Angel as my third Encounter for the Day, this battle will take place during nighttime. Please please leave her for me, alright, I soft-need her badge if I aim for Shiva becoming even more of an Insight-blaster! >o< That, and I've got reasons to meet with her for the promised crafting, showing her the hatchlings and introducing a pink Pachirisu to her.

Concerning Torterra, nope, you can keep it, I'm fine that you've caught it. It was important to me that they ARE caught in the first place so that they can't cause ruckus within the mine again.

Shiva can also help you to see if these cave fungus on their shell are useful in a way, as she's very in tune with nature - just in a different way than Terra is, me feels he's more the 'Survive in the harsh nature'-guy and she's the 'Enjoy mother nature's beauty and benelovence'-one. ^^

Terra definitely has the relevant skills to know. I'll say they are edible, tasty, and regrow quickly enough that you can eat them whenever. But you have to carefully remove the poison gills first.

You could also craft a Toxic Orb, perhaps.

You can actually do async encounters, like so:

1. Angela fights Terra. It's Angela's second Encounter and Terra's third.
2. Angela fights Shiva. It's Angela's third Encounter and Shiva's third.
