Mandibuzz Round 1

Paula bravely sings in the face of danger.  It's worked before, so it should work again, right?

Sing 1
(6)(6)(3)
Mandibuzz falls out of the sky and crashes into the ground as it falls asleep!

Scizor agrees that making this Mandibuzz easier to break would be a good plan.  This looks like one tough birdy!

Leer 1
3 + 2 + 2 - 2 = 5
(3)(5)(2)(1)(1)
Unfortunately, Scizor's rather out of practice when it comes to using intimidation tactics.  He hadn't accounted for Mandibuzz being asleep.

Scizor shrugs and gets ready to go on the offensive as Mandibuzz snoozes.

Wake Up 1
(4)(1)(4)(2) 2/5

More singing for Paula!  She's going to leverage every advantage she can!

Lucky Chant 2
(5)(2)(3)(5)(3)
Paula and her allies are protected from bad luck!

Time to do some damage!  Scizor rushes in!

Metal Claw 2
10 - 4 - 1 = 5
(6)(3)(3)(6)(2)
2 + 3 + STAB + 1 Tech - 5 = 2
(3)(1) Not all bad luck, though.  *shrug*
(4)

A part of Mandibuzz's armor is chipped off when Scizor makes contact with the bird.  Mandibuzz's Weak Armor triggers!  -1 Defense, +2 Dexterity!

That also happens to cause it to stir in its already restless sleep!

Wake Up 2
(6)(5)(3)(4) 5/5
Mandibuzz wakes up!

Scizor backs off briefly as the vulture screeches at him, but he quickly renews his assault.  This bird won't be getting the best of him that easily!

Bullet Punch 3
(1)(5)(6)(5)
(1)(3)(1) ...or maybe it will.  Scizor looks quite puzzled that he can't seem to find a weakness in Mandibuzz's armor.

Mandibuzz's black aura briefly becomes visible as it takes to the sky once more and unleashes one of its more powerful attacks!  Even outnumbered, this bird isn't going down without a fight!  Innumerable shadowy spikes suddenly poke at Scizor and Paula from the ground below them!

Shadow Rave 3
4 Spe + 3 Fight + 3 Channel - 6 = 4
(6)(3)(6)(1)
4 Spe + 2 Pow + 1 Shadow Sky + SE - 3/4 Sp Def = 4/3 D6 + 1
(2)(5)(1), (3)
Paula takes 2 damage! 4/6 HP -1 Pain
Scizor takes 2 damage! 7/9 HP -1 Pain

Paula winces in pain, but she's not out of this fight yet.  She will defend herself!

Water Pulse 3
(5)(1)
(5)(4) Mandibuzz takes 2 damage! 6/8 HP -1 Pain
(4)(4)(5)

Draining Kiss 4
(5)
(4)(5) Mandibuzz takes 3 damage! 3/8 HP -2 Pain
Paula recovers 1 HP! 5/6 HP

Paula looks to Scizor nervously, as Mandibuzz is now significantly faster and doesn't need to put in much effort to hit both of them rather hard.  The bug gives her a confident nod back, though.  He's very certain that they can handle this after Paula picked up the slack in the damage department.

A dark light rains down from the shadowy sky!
Paula takes 1 damage. 4/6 HP -1 Pain
Scizor tightens his scarf, somehow protecting himself from the bad weather!
Mandibuzz is unaffected!

Porygon-Z's Download increases its Special by 1!

Braviary Round 1

Despite how much Blitz sparks and glitches, it tracks Braviary's movements with precise accuracy.  Once it's determined the optimal method of attack, it fires an electrical net designed to restrict the bird's movements.

Electroweb 1
13 - 1 - 2 = 10
(3)(4)(2)(3)(6)(2)(4)(3)(2)(2)
2 + 7* + STAB - 5 + SE = 5 + 1
(6)(4)(5)(5)(6) Braviary takes 6 damage! 4/10 HP -2 Pain
-1 Dex for Braviary!

Octavia is more than happy to shout at this bird.  Her attack echoes around the cliffs over and over and over again...Octavia's voice isn't the only one echoing around the area, though, as Kee can also catch the sounds of what can only be described as a beautiful siren's song intermingling with the sound of the Echoed Voice as well.

Echoed Voice 1
(6)(6)(1)(6)(6)(3)(6)(5) These echoes really are making the move more effective!  Crit!
(1)(2)(4)(2)(2) Braviary takes 1 damage 3/10 HP -2 Pain

Draven takes flight and takes advantage of the fact that Braviary is tangled in Blitz's web to grab the bird and ground them!

Foul Play 1
(6)(4)(2)(2)(6)(4)(4) And what an effective face pound it is!  Crit!
6 Str + 3 + STAB - 5 + 2 Crit = 7
(6)(4)(5)(1)(6)(6)(2) ...okay then.  Braviary takes 5 damage and faints before it even gets to move!

...and as it crashes to the ground, a black aura blazes to life around it, escaping into the surrounding air!  Seems like that was a Shadow Braviary, and it's been purified by KOing it.

Kee, Lucas, Blitz, Octavia, and Draven all get 3 exp each.

Staravia Round 1

Gama reacts quickly, tossing gunk in the direction Staravia is flying to deter them from fleeing!

Gunk Shot 1
(4)(3)(4)(2)(6) Gama became Poison type!
(6)(4)(3)(1)(4)(5) Staravia takes 4 damage! 4/8 HP -2 Pain
(6)(3)(5) Staravia was Poisoned!

Staravia isn't fleeing, however!  In fact, it's dive bombing Gama with Reckless abandon!  This looks like it's going to hurt if it hits!

Take Down 1
11 - 2 Acc - 2 Pain - 2 Act = 5
(5)(6)(2)(1)(4)
3 + 3 + STAB + 2 Reckless - 2 = 7
(6)(6)(3)(2)(4)(1)(3) Gama takes 3 damage! 5/8 HP -1 Pain
(3)(3)(1) No Recoil this time.

Gama stumbles back from the impact, but now that Staravia is closer, he can retaliate with a contact move of his own.  One freezing cold frog fist strikes the bird out of the sky!

Ice Punch 2
(5)(3)(5)(5) Gama became Ice type!
(4)(1)(3)(5) Staravia takes 3 damage! 1/8 HP -3 Pain
(1)

Staravia has grabbed Gama's arm in its beak, however, and is trying to wrestle the frog to the ground!

Submission 2
11 - 2 - 3 - 4 = 2
(2)(2) Miss!  Gama manages to break free of the bird's strong grip!

And with speed and precision, he's able to karate chop a pressure point and KO Staravia before it can attempt to cause any more havoc!

Aerial Ace 3
(2) Hits anyways!
(3)(4)(4) Staravia takes 2 damage and faints!

Well, I don't think this went quite how Kogeki thought it would, but he certainly has a chance to capture Staravia now.

Staravia has 7 Will, -5 for fainting, -1 from poison.

Quick Ball
S: (6)(5)(6)(1)(6)(3)(4)(4)
W: (2)

Gotcha!  Shiny Staravia was caught!

Ran had mixed feelings about his sea sprite's and the red explorer's first few seconds of engagement with the fell vulture.

On one hand, Scizor was useless during that time. Less than useless, in fact, as their Metal Claw ended up making the Shadow Mandibuzz faster by proccing it's Weak Armor and without Damaging it too boot, putting it he lead against them practically scott free. This power of theirs (or lack thereof) distinctly reminded him of how relatively little help they were against Tyrantrum, but at the very least then they had helped wear the beast down enough for Zorn to take it out. If their performance became a downward trend, the ironclad insect would outright start sabotaging itself and anyone teaming up with it through sheer incompetence on its part, unintentional or not, which was not a comforting thought to the scruffy smith.

On the other hand, by the 'merit' of Scizors being deadweight this battle, Paula had proven herself more than capable as a fighter, able to almost effortlessly subdue the black and white birdies bring it to the verge of defeat. Heck, there were good odds she could have taken it out by herself if he had Ordered her to use Whirlpool and/or Surf on it instead of casting her Lucky Chant, ending things for the bleak scavenger before it could really take advantage of the second wind Scizors gave it cost free. Really, Ran was genuinely impressed such a shy and timid Pokemon could face off against Shadow Pokemon and other nasty wildlife so handily and her own brand of confidence, and it spoke a lot about her future potential once she grows in strength as a battler and person.

In the end, though, the dwarven craftsman had to deal with the situation as it came to him, and quickly brainstormed a plan that would see the Shadow Mandibuzz defeated before it could wreck too much devastation upon his partners.

" Paula, you're doing PHENOMENALLY! Finish this bird brain bitch off with a Draining Kiss, Water Pulse, and Round! Scizors, for the love of Genesect, Registeel, or whatever Legendary ya worship or look up too, please use Bullet Punch and Vacuum Wave on it, and make it hurt. Now, both of you defeat that damn berserk buzzard already! "

Orders: Since Shadow Mandibuzz is practically knocking at Faint's doorstep, have Paula use Draining Kiss to hopefully speed it along it entry into dreamland with Scizor's Priority Moves, but failing that Paula is ready to follow up her smooch of defeat with Water Pulse and Round. If she get's brought down ANY amount of HP at this point, give her a Potion, or a Revive if she actually get's Fainted by SM's next Move. Let's hope Scizors can redeem himself next Round, or Ran's going to be very cross with the insect....

Moves:

Draining Kiss
Accuracy: 7D6 Dice (Factoring in - 1 Pain)
Damage: 2D6 + 1 Damage
Effect: Drain Move
Note: Conditional Willpoint to turn this Move into a Crit if Scizor's either doesn't use Priority or fails to use it meaningfully (IE: Does no Damage), as I want this Move to KO SM if at all possible.

Water Pulse
Accuracy: 5D6 Dice
Damage: 2D6 Damage
Effect: Known

Round
Accuracy: 3D6 Dice
Damage: Same as W.P.
Effect: Irrelevant

(Description of the battle, because I feel in the mood for writing something)

Gama, thinking his adversary would run awar, put to work in the toxins of his body, and from his finger he thrown his Gunk Shot in the form of poisoning spikes, hitting hard the shiny bird!

(I always picture Gunk as some sort of more physical and robust appearance, since in the games they appear to spikes or spear to me)

He was taking by surprise by discovering the bird not fleeing, but instead taking enough distance to hit with Take Down! Staravia flew toward Gama, hitting him in the guts, speeling a bit of blood, since Gama physical defense is not that great. But this the opportunity Gama waited. With a sharp and quick movement only a ninja could, he grab Staravia the neck with one hand, while he other he punch right in the beak, giving a attack almost cold as the first crush you have for a woman.

Staravia try to make submit, but Gama simple dodge and jump away the attack, and with one, Aerial Ace, hitting his foe, ending the battle!

Kogeki feel satisfied with the results of the battle, despite the fact the bird was fainted. "Excelent job Gama. With this Shiny, we can enter in contact with Rowan when our job finish here for a new Pokemon. Or anything else nice for a change."

Staravia was perfect send to Kogeki PC. He look the state of Gama wounds. "Hmm. Lets patch those wounds before we return to the others." With a quick change in PC he get Ralts and Cleffa. He ask Ralts for a Heal towards Gama.

Action: Heal Pulse on Gama. If not fully heal, the another Heal Pulse from Cleffa to finish the job.

Mandibuzz Round 2

Scizor rolls his eyes.  He was gonna do that anyways!

Bullet Punch 1
(5)(3)(3)(3)(2)(6)(2)
(4)(3)(1) Mandibuzz takes 1 damage 2/8 HP -2 Pain

Mandibuzz doesn't hesitate to use that shadow move again, seeing how effective it was last time.

Shadow Rave 1
(6)(4)(4)(2)(5)(5)  Well, it would be a crit, but Lucky Chant protects the team!
(5)(5)(5), (1)
Paula takes 4 damage and faints!
Scizor takes 4 damage! 3/9 HP -2 Pain

Paula stumbles backwards and collapses into Randolph's arms before she has a chance to move.  Even with this minor setback, though, Ran's encouragment gives her at least a little courage to continue and try again.

Randolph uses a Revive on Paula!  3/6 HP -2 Pain

Scizor's doing the best that he can, helping to chip away at this enemy's health pool with rapid attacks.  Every little bit of damage helps.

Quick Attack 2
(6)(3)(6)(1)
(5)(2) Mandibuzz takes 1 damage 1/8 HP -3 Pain

Mandibuzz finds that bug annoying.  She aims a sharp blade of air at it to get it out of her sight.

Air Slash 2
11* - 3 - 4 = 4
(1)(1)(3)(1)

Scizor nimbly dodges to the side as the Air Slash flies past him and barely misses Rui and Randolph.  Rui tries to take what little cover she can behind Randolph as the rushing air ruffles clothes and hair.  Paula, meanwhile, has jumped back into the fray without Mandibuzz noticing.

Draining Kiss 2
(5)(3)(3)(1)
Mandibuzz takes at least 1 damage and faints!
Paula recovers 1 HP! 4/6 HP -1 Pain

The black aura flares into existence, rushing away from Mandibuzz and towards the sky above as the vulture finally succumbs to the assault.  Scizor wipes his brow, digs through his bag, and hands an Oran Berry to Paula.  Then he pulls a Sitrus Berry out of the bag for himself.

When Paula eats the Oran Berry, she heals more than 1 HP!  6/6 HP
The Sitrus Berry that Scizor eats also seems to be more effective than usual.  9/9 HP

Paula, Scizor, Randolph, and Rui all get 6 exp.

Rui timidly peeks out from behind Randolph to view the scene.  "...is it over?"

Well, that went.... fast, VERY fast, that mighty eagle and wanna-be symbol of freedom didn't even have a chance to fight back. All the better though since it prevented Kee's dear Pokemon companions from suffering slashes from their claws or serious wounds shall they go all-out!~ And so can't help but to laugh delightfully, give both Octavia and Draven some reward-cuddles and Lucas a thankful pat onto his right shoulder before he involuntarily FLINCHED as that ominous, black, shadowy aura seemingly left this defeated Braviary's body. Octavia hisses sharply as that happens, and so does Draven.

"Ugh, Lucas..... Ya saw that, did ya? Was THAT what ya meant by 'Shadow Pokemon'? How strange...." He scratches his head and does his best to calm his faeeveelution and catbat down. "They didn't sport that black aura 'ntil we've beaten 'em, so that means those Shadow Pokemon can 'disguise' 'emselves as standard Pokemon, can they? Oof...." Kee facepalms. "Guess that means we've gotta be extra-careful 'round ANY 'Mon that 'ppears to be agressive in some way."

He gazes at the fainted body of the Braviary, then turn towards Lucas once more. "....So, ya wanna catch 'em? I kinda don't, even if 'ppearantly purified now, they're still an ex-shadowmon. Unless those shadows infest a 'Mon I really like, I rather not wanna dabble with 'em." Much rather Kee wishes to collect some feathers (at best pinion feathers) this Braviary might have lost during this quick battle, since those are both extraordinarily-beautiful AND for sure valuable!~ If there are no around, he'll all carefully pluck a few directly from their wings while they're still fainted.

Lucas gives Kee an affirmative nod in response to the thoughts on Shadow Pokemon.  "Yeah, it seems that they're difficult to identify unless you're able to see the auras before the pokemon starts attacking with Shadow Moves.  Maybe I should ask Sally to act as a lookout once we're able to walk instead of Fly..."

"If you don't want to catch it, I will.  I don't think this is a place where I'd be comfortable leaving a fainted pokemon to try and recover on its own.  Espeon also assured us that purified Shadow Pokemon have a tendency to be more reliable than you'd expect, so I don't think they'll be causing us any further trouble.  Probably.  Braviary usually aren't very tempermental from what I've heard..."

Lucas captures Braviary with an Ultra Ball and sends it to the PC.  He whistles when he sees the summary.  "Good thing it didn't get to attack.  That bird had a Sheer Force Crush Claw up its sleeve.  That would have been nasty if it had hit..."

Kee can definitely pick up a few feathers that were scattered when Draven drove Braviary into the ground.
