Oh.... Well, then Shiva does exactly that, but not after having given the Scim Leader a bit of a distrustful look. And just in case, she protects herself from additional effects via the Ancient Shield.

A discovery such as this...the only way that it could be described is mystifying.  The fossil of a long extinct Legendary pokemon, untouched and almost perfectly preserved in its hidden, isolated undersea cavern...the sight of it raises just as many questions as they do answers.

And so, I feel this piece of music is appropriate:

Ancient Mysteries: Mysteries Within Arrangement 1 - Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon

Nathan can only look at the fossil with wonder at first, wanting to note down everything he's seeing.  A purely unaltered Creshirean Genesect...something that no living human has set eyes on in hundreds of years...Sarimanok and his researchers were the most likely to have seen such a sight last...

Nathan's thoughts drift back to why he's here, though.  Why he asked Ventus and Terra to come as well.

To keep the Scimitars from getting their hands on this specimen and altering it to fulfill their own desires and further their goals...whatever they may be now.

Nathan starts unpacking the excavation tools.  Before they can even think of transporting this fossil, they need to get it out of here in one piece.  ALL of it.  Even the smallest sample of DNA being left behind could be disastrous.  As Mega Syrentide and modern fossil revivification methods have proven, you only need a small piece of the original to reproduce something close to it...

As Nathan goes to start the excavation with Gallade's assistance, though, he notices the eggs.

Pokemon eggs.

He gets out his pokedex immediately to analyze them.  "Terra, Ventus, be on guard.  Where there's eggs, there might be parents."

Is the pokedex able to identify what the contents of these pokemon eggs might be?

"Don't worry. I'm as good as my word." And all the Scimitars hurl the items they were concealing in their Gauntlets. A rain of Heavy Balls falls on Cocancer - in moments, a lucky Scimitar is dancing in the air as his Heavy Ball flies back into his hand. He immediately clips it to his belt and the other Scims fall into formation behind this new leader.

From somewhere in the middle of the pack, a polite voice calls out, "Thank you! We'll be going, now. You're absolutely welcome to stay here as long as you want. Bye!"

As the wedge heads back underwater, colossal Cocancer is nowhere to be seen. Just a vast amount of water, spotted with grey spheres, rushing in to fill the space where he once stood.

The Pokedex tries. It glitches for a while, then comes up with.... "Shellder?" Question mark and all.

This isn't the first time you've noticed odd behavior out of your Pokedex even when Porygon and Rotom are safely in their balls.

The eggs looked something like this when still imprisoned in their goo.

"...okay, never mind, then..."

Nathan's gonna have his 'dex scrubbed for bugs later for sure.  He doesn't even have Porygon-Z and Pulse on his person right now (as he wasn't expecting to need them for a fossil excavation).  Something weird is definitely going on here with his device...

...and he's not entirely confident that these are Shellder eggs, either.

He looks to Terra.  "Can you check these eggs for me with your pokedex, Terra?"

Uh... This happened way too fast for Shiva to intercept, didn't it? The moment she figured out the Scim's intention, she would have rushed forward to block these Heavy Balls, but even with FLYING via leafy wings she was too slow. Being with a Water Scimitar isn't exactly the 'proper home' she has envisioned for Huge Cocancer, unfortunately. o(TヘTo)

Oh well, at least the natural fae-enthusiast now knows that he has to work a little on her own persistence and stubbornness, given that these Scims totally took advantage of her kind and polite nature - facepalming over herself and burying it into Tropius' neck-leaves, she falls back into a pattern she has actually almost overcome by now: Blaming herself, feeling sorry for herself, feeling unworthy of that hero status even. She shouldn't have fallen for their semi-charming words about her 'reputation(?)' damn it !!! The loyal grassy sauropode chirps in a consoling way as his mount leans in even closer, is that a swallowed sob he picked up..?

But on the other hand she has grown enough by now to not dwell into this state constantly, but she definitely's going to take some time to accept her having made quite the mistake as well as struggle with her guilty conscience.

Though right now, it's all about distraction. And while Shiva can't undo what she messed up here, she surely can take some sort of front line when/if it comes to handling the consequences of it. She just.... Well, needs to accept things and forgive herself firstly. Oh, and explain the situation to the military!~ Fun.

Desperlately avoiding Heart's gaze, she waves him over. "Well, come on, Heart... Feel free to fly back to where we came from now. Unless you wish to... Uhm, still wish to explore this spot a bit with me?" Regardless his answer, NOW she can investigate this chasm properly.

Vaporeon does some exploration of the chasm. Water is usually rushing down it - but every now and then, a huge bubble of natural gas comes up through the chasm, causing a firework of "exploding" seawater. Some of these can be very violent, bringing up ancient silt and materials. There are also a lot of nutrients in such a place, leading to a relatively big population of invasive Lavent.

".....It was true. By the Trio and The Undivided One, it was right and true. All those tenuous, nebulous leads and clues we dug up.....they lead us to this. A complete Genesect Fossil, hardly ravaged by the eons......"

Ventus uttered this aloud, a drawn, almost disbelieving look on his face as he unblinking gazed upon the Mythical relic of ages long past, totally  transfixed by it . Soon enough, though, that looked transformed in one of wonder and joy bordering on rapturous, with big hints of......bittersweet nostalgia and gratefulness. Though it was not and could not ever be his old friend, perhaps he could do right by them and their memory through these old, verneable remains....

He'd be crying and collapsed on his knees if it were not for the nature of the local, so instead he settled on listlessly floating in place alongside Ao Guang, who support them and was also humbled by the Fossil's presence. Even a Dragon Lord of the Sea like him can't help but respect such a find, and how much it resonated with his brother-advisor.

Terra too was awed by the Genesect Fossil, though unlike their boss he was no so overtaken by it that it shunted out the intense amount of curiosity and interest he felt as he took in every single detail of it. So this was what those ferocious and adaptable bugs in Cheshire truly looked like in their prime, unaltered and unmodified. It was.....

'....Impressive. So much can be learnt from it. Now as it is, here.....and otherwise. Discoveries that could.......revolutionize understanding of Genesects. Bug Pokemon. .....And my Arete. Discoveries that can.....improve them.....restore them too. Has great potential. Pure, great potential......'

Lapis Lazuli shared a similar stance on the G.F. as the Deep Sea Dracofish, but Sari......Sari was just as interested in it as her loyal caretarker, looking at it with an impressed and hungry gaze. What a magnificent and powerful treasure they found, ripe for the taking and use....

Nathan's warning doesn't penetrate through to the eccentric researcher, but it does to his Dragon and the rugged wanderer and his collective, all of them shaking their heads and giving their own affirmatives as they more carefully payed attention to their nebulous surrounding and whatever was lurking within them. At their request Terra promptly attempts to scan them ALL with his Pokedex, now quite curious and concerned too of what exactly those Eggs were if Nathan couldn't get an accurate read on them. He'd also get Lovely to round up all the Egg carefully as he can, as even if they can't properly identify them now Shiva or some other Breeder might be able to later, and failing that just incubate and hatch one to find out what Pokemon they hold instead. Simple as that!

Terra's Pokedex can't figure it out at all! "Species not found. Please insert expansion cartridge." That's a weird message, considering Terra's dex is supposed to be fully updated.

"...expansion cartridge?  Mallorn's pokedexes don't take expansion cartridges, right?  Hmmmm..."

Okay, well at least Nathan doesn't seem to be the only one experiencing issues...Terra can hold on to the strange eggs for now, I suppose, though Nathan might want some later for his own studies.

Well, back to the matter at hand for now, then.

"Terra, Ventus, keep watch.  Don't need any wild pokemon or Scimitars sneaking up on us while I'm trying to excavate this fossil."

Alright, Step 1: excavating the fossil.  Would it be possible to safely excavate the entire thing if Gallade were to (carefully) use ROCK SMASH and/or CUT to loosen the edges, and then Nathan use the finer tools to do the more delicate work?

Step 2: Transporting the fossil once it's free.  Would it fit in a pokeball, or does that not work because it hasn't been revived yet?  If not, would it be possible for Gallade to levitate it with Telekinesis so that it can be carried out safely?

Those are the two basic steps that need to be addressed, so let's see if we can retrieve this fossil and get a little closer to the end of this particular plotline.  If anything else happens, it can be addressed then.
