Well darn, there you go making me eat my own words...

That's a pretty reasonable explaination as to why low brow humor/needling/and good old teasing isn't well received by Nathan. If he's been mocked all his life for his unique interests and being an outsider, that type of humor would be totally lost on the boy. Probably should be for Ven as well, but he deals with his painful past by either the Gritted Teeth methods, or outright ignoring/keeping quiet on the details that he's not to pleased with.

Though, if Nathan starts getting onto him about his fears and phobias, Ven is probably going to get onto him about his remarkably low ability to tolerate stressful situations, or how obsitinate/bull headed they can be at times. Ven might go psychotic in the worst of situations, but at least he can still function, cope , and rationalize the whole way. He's also a whole lot more willing to compromise on his own stance and views if it mean he can make his friends are happier/safer , or just get along and cooperate. Nathan...not so much. Boy sticks to his guns even when its not exactly a grand idea, and is more than willing to engage in fights rather than rationally talk things out.
